Hello All,

I have a problem that I have been trying to solve for weeks now. I have an older IBM Thinkpad that I am trying to setup with wireless for my Grandma. It does not have built in ethernet, so I put in a PCMCIA ethernet card. When I use that connection, I am able to connect to the internet no problem. I then installed a wireless b/g card, and I am able to connect to my router with that no problem, but my valid IP address that I had with the wired connection goes to either 169.... address or an "Automatic Private Address" and I can't connect to the internet. I have a fresh install of XP on the machine, and have run my spam and virus checkers.

Thanks,

Justin

P.S. Sorry for the misspelling in the title.

You've setup the card for a DHCP-assigned IP address, right?

Also, you might want to check out the router configuration -- make sure that automatic DHCP is enabled for all clients and that the IP range is big.

Hope this helps
