You being a web developer, I'm assuming you know how to program. Web developers develop web software. What language would you like to use? PHP? ASP? ColdFusion? Java? Perl?
I also recommend you go with MySQL server. Access is just a file, and craps out once you got over 8 people connecting to it at the same time. With MySQL, because it's a server, it handles all the user sessions appropriately.

Mage --> Voila!
I'm telling you right now he might be able to say that to 19-24 y/o students, but he would'nt dare to preach that at any of the seminars I attened! Talking about a laughing stock.
I agree with you here. Personally, I think their decisions arise from ego. Simple as that. I also go to quite a few seminars and shows (IBM, Macromedia, and Microsoft), and if some ignorant person uttered such stupidity, they'd get crucified.
Cool, another Anime fan. Anime is different from american cartoons. They usually cover strong morals in life. As much as I also like "Sponge Bob Square Pants," strong morals is something that I could get from such a show.
If there is a person in the world who does not like Anime (in some shape, form or fashion) I would like to meet that person and prove them wrong.
I know lots of people. Well, actually, it's not even that they don't like it, it's that they won't even give it a chance. Why? Partly out of ignorance. They don't want to understand what it's all about. Most already think they do. They think it's "oh, just a cartoon; I can't take that seriously; it's for little kids..." When I hear that, it just drives me crazy. It's like saying "Computers are just a toy for little teens to share music and play MP3s. No good can come of it." It sounds pretty ignorant. You want to grab the person by the shoulders, sit them down, and explain to them the millions of reasons why they're wrong.
Too many ignorant people think it's for little kids. They can't see themselves watching it because they think it'll make them immature. I think the reason for this belief is due to Americanized versions of Anime. Americanized versions of Anime ARE for children. They filter out so much seriousness out of the original versions, all you get is handful of fudge. Anime such as Pokemon, Digimon, and others that have been marketed to death here in America give a wrong illusion of what Anime is to adults. This is quite sad. Some of the best stories I know come from Anime. …
And Justice for All --> Pledge
(Hey that's not a word! ^_^)
Yup. Cars and computers are my biggest thing in life. (on the un-living side of things). I guess friends and family for the living. :-P I was going to get a Greddy exhaust for my Civic, but went with a Tsudo instead. Wish I had big money for a nice Supra, or MR2. :)
Oh no, another Civic owner. Civics are way overrated. :cool:
Freedom --> Liberty
im a huge linux advocate and i know exactly what you mean about the linux community being full of ppl who are so die hard for Linux that they hate helping ppl out and are jst play stupid cause they wont even listen to someone elses point of view about something, the thing that really pisses me off is when there is someone defending linux and they dont even have there facts straight about it. But on the other hand there are also a bunch that are really good about helping out others that are new to linux and even listen and having an educated debate about linux and other OS and even other technologies. As for me i love to help ppl out with the stuff that i know about linux (its not a heck of alot but some :) ). i havent had a professor like that yet but i havent take all that many Comp Sci classes at the University level and im sure i will run into a few like that. thats jst my own opinion about it though :)
this a point from John Kerry's webpage jst so you know he plans on supportting and funding nanotechnology :) jst wanted to point this out.
source is on this site http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/urban/ :)
Yeah, the ignorant people tend to confuse Linux advocacy with Microsoft Bashing. Not just that, but apparently if you use anything from Microsoft, you're a drooling idiot. I don't even try …

Yay, another Anime fan. Ooh, I noticed you like to sleep too. Very cool.
Do I need to rattle of a list of fortune 500 companies that use IIS & microsoft products to your narrow minded professor?
You don't need to. They know it already. Probably know more about it than you.
Your professor may think that, but that tells us nothing. the real question is why?
Again, there's no need to. They know why.
So if they know why, why do they stoop down to such ignorant actions? Who knows. Out of ego maybe. I have two professors who know security about OS inside out: from a scientific point of view, to a practical point of view. They also understand the business aspect of it, yet they still act ignorant. Something I'll never understand, and frankly, I don't really give a damn anymore. People like this aren't worth wasting time on.
Beholder --> Beauty
Another professor only teaches windows apps. classes, but is encouraging in my use of linux where applicable.
Encouragement I don't mind. When someone forces you to use something and tells you that you're an idiot if you don't, especially a professor, it's when it becomes annoying. I've learned to move on, but when you're paying for a class, you're paying to learn, not get annoyed.
Good post, but their pro-linux/open source ways don't bother me. It's their attitude towards people that disagree with them that drives me crazy. They are attitudes that you usually find at the playground of an elementary school. To show you what I mean, here's a post by Michael Dinowitz from alt.comp.lang.coldfusion. He's a well known ColdFusion advocate. In this post he's talking about the ever popular Eric Raymond:
I remember going to a Linux user group meeting a month after I presented CF on Linux to them (which they liked). At the meeting, Eric Raymond was speaking and afterwards I went up to him to say hello and talk to him about all these new Linux users coming from the CF world. His response was to ignore my hand, tell me "Why should I care about ColdFusion when I have Zope" and turn his back to me. No handshake, no nice words, nothing. This seems to be the slashdot stance and I for one really think it sucks. On the other hand it is not the only stance from the Linux world. Jesse Noller from MM is very big on Linux and helps out a LOT with it. The CF-Linux list is almost his alone. :)
He continues here...
Let me actually take this a step further. The month before the incident, I had
spoken at the same user group about CF on Linux and it was very well accepted. Not only did I speak …
I don't think your posts are useless. They are very informative indeed. What I can't stand however is when you go off attacking a person's beliefs just because they don't agree with you. This used to be worse with your "big b" account, but it seems you've toned down somewhat. All I can tell you is just to watch what you say. You seem like a smart person, but lacking a little bit in etiquette, which is the reason why I received complaints.
You can criticize any technology you want, but to avoid flames, don't criticize people.
Bug-eye --> Monster
I'd rather take the extra-emotional one.
used to be yahoo...
It used to be AskJeeves for me. After some time I found out that it was garbage. Also, more ads started to appear. Now it seems they toned down, but I still prefer Google.
You left out, Their OS of choice conveys it clearly enough. which was the whole point, not an ATTACK which some tried to SPIN.
I was never trying to reiterate YOUR point. I was trying to get MY point across, which is having consideration for people when posting.
I'll provide a PDF for you because, I don't quite think you know what a (TOS) is and are getting it mixed up with something else? (see page 82)
Again with your assumptions. You don't know how much I know, and I don't know how much you know. I'm not going to assume anything about you because I simply don't know you. Discussing any other issue besides YOUR behavior and etiquette was NEVER the intention of my post. My post was strictly about YOUR behavior.
"but to say they have outdated products is really retarded"
Here again, I don't the see the attack you are reffering to. Look up retarded in the dictionary, it means to move slow , which I was reffering to, as the DoD's technology is not slow.
In your sentence, "retarded" is modifying your verb "say," thus the person who is saying it. You're saying the person who is saying it is retarded. I think you're reaching out too far by saying the meaning for retarded is slow. Of course it's slow. But in this case, people don't interpret it as that, and I think you should know that. People often use the word "gay" not for …
Remember to have complicated passwords. The more private the account, the more cryptic your passwords. For example, an old yahoo password of mine was:
jufh80h4unfvnxjk45ha
Brute force cracking that would take a heck of a long time. Not worth it. If it was cracked in one day, or even a week by one computer, then she's either using a keylogger, or has some sort admin account where she can control passwords of other users.
Also, I have not kept up with AOL hacking recently, but there could be a possibility that AOL passwords are encrypted in the user's computer and she might have an app that decrypts it. It's a possibility.
I have a birth certificate.
I retook that exam three times. It was hard.

Why can't someone post facts about a system being inferior without everyone thinking it is something personal? (especially linux users in general get offended, why is that?)
I find it disturbing how many people go into Linux with their eyes completely closed just because some 1337 kids online said it was cool and it is always popular to root for the underdog.
You will notice that I don't post opinions about Linux ("it blows" etc) I merely cite facts about it. In this thread I noted it's EAL2 rating, that is a fact.So what's wrong with educating people on facts about operating systems?
Oh, bb's are not finite, as what people post, people are not robots and machines.
WEATHER CHANNEL, you're welcomed to give your opinions on ANY topic. Whether it's software, hardware, ideas, or anything related in the field of computers, or anything else for that matter. You can even attack it, and ridicule it. However, notice how I'm NOT mentioning people. When you say the following:
UN*X/Linux users fail to understand basic security principals of transitive rights or basic OS design fundementals like the advantages of the microkernel.
but to say they have outdated products is really retarded
Something tells me that you are thinking I'm pro microsoft which would be wrong, I'm pro (TOS)

In all honesty, I don't even try to pursuit knowledge explicitly. I have a computer profession and I'm a computer science student, so I'm always at the computer. My craving for knowledge stems from my curiosity than anything else. Because I'm always on the internet, I always look up anything if I don't know. This includes from the stupidest things to the most important. It doesn't matter to me. Because it's so accessible through the internet, I look it up. This is the only reason. If I had to drive my car to the library and get a book on it, I wouldn't even bother.
Thank God for the internet. Oh yeah... and Google. @_@
Hi
I am a newbie to networking. I want to network two computers at home running Win98SE. Can two computers be networked via Serial or Parallel ports? If this is possible, then are network cards required? Could somebody suggest me a good tutorial on networking?

You mean on the magazine cover? Sure, but to make a cool techie magazine cover, no hot chicks are required. It doesn't hurt though. @_@ So I take it you guys would enter the contest?

Technology and science wise, we are progressing. Personality wise and character wise, we haven't grown much, that is if you compare the change in human character to the change in technology and science. People are still racists, commit rape, homocide, and the most eccentric of gruesome crimes. There's still a lot of religious conflict and a tremendous power struggle in third world countries. These are things that have existed for hundreds to even thousands of years, yet you think we'd be more civiliazed by now. It's true that we've changed, but the change is not as dramatic as our change in science and technology.
Congratulations, although I think not enough people voted. :(

You'd be surprised how many idiots there are in the world.

I never liked checking for true like this. For one, if you have register_globals=ON, you can easily define it through the URL. And second, if you have a lot of code, you can accidently define it before you check accidently.
WOW , A unfriendly looking character you have there ,the enforcer !! threatening poster isn't the job of a mod :evil: ,helping is ,helping is what is done here ! :D The poster is only 13 and needs your help ,not you Power : sad:
When someone tells you the rules after you disobey them, do you call that a threat? I told him to please obey the rules in a respectful manner. Him getting warned or banned by me or another moderator is a fact. I'm giving him advice on this, and etiquette, so he gets better responses in the future from this and other forums, thus helping him.
You don't know if the poster is 13. Saying you're under fifteen and a girl with bambi eyes with a girly account name is the best way to get a response from tech forums. I do it, I've done it, and lots of people have in the past, including today. It's psychological. People are more willing to help others of the opposite sex or minors. Not only are they more willing, but they are more patient. Posing as a female minor is the best way to get sympathy and tolerance from people, such yourself, others, and yes, including myself.
Because I never know how old anyone is through the internet, I talk to everyone in the same, non-biased, non-demeaning, neutral manner. That is unless I know them.
How about a magazine cover for techtalkforums? What do you guys think? If you have an idea, let's hear it! :cool:

Here's the deal ... we're in need of a 468x60 banner that we can use for web promotion or to give out to people.
Have you used the banner for anything? I don't see the winner's banner anywhere.
