And once you're done with that, go to:
This has nothing to do web design. I'm going to move your question to the Internet Explorer forum. You'll have better luck there. I'm assuming you're browsing with IE because you mentioned an .EXE file which is on Windows. If this thread doesn't belong here, PM me and I'll move it.
and doesn't use TRUE and FALSE definitions ( $send = "no"!? What kind of rubbish is that? )
I agree. That's a poor way to set flags around your code. I'd see if there was a way to manipulate if statements rather than flagging like this. At the very least, don't use "yes" or "no," use 1 or 0.
For large blocks of HTML, I just close the php block and use regular HTML. If I have to do output of a PHP variable, I just use <?=$variable?>.
Did you set up a mail server?
Here's my submission. I know it ended but what the heck...

i know the A+ isnt anything to brag about, but here i am. I didnt have to pay for the class, i just sign up for it. The cost of the certification test is only like $50, and if i pass they give back $30.
It is something to brag about. Not anyone can pass it. I hear people brag about how easy it is all the time yet they're not even certified in it. You would think, that they brag about it, that they'd go out there and get the certification themselves. You should be proud of any certification because it took at least some effort to get it. Even if you know the stuff, not getting a book on it and at least understanding the format of the exam is just asking for trouble.
I'm certified in ColdFusion and I'm quite satisfied. I know that not anyone can pass it, and that's what adds worth to the certification.

Same here. I remember my needs assessment class forst quarter.. easy. Then there was Employment needs... same frickin book, but harder.
You have a CS degree?
What I'm amazed at is how a 6 year old knows more about configuring Windows than her parents. I went to my friend's house and her cousin knew more about computers than when I was 14. Yikes!
Mexico --> Speedy Gonzales
thanks, man i didnt think that anyone was gonna answer...6 days without a reply
No problem. Whatever you do with an IP address though, make sure you know who you're doing it to. There are people who know their system inside out and keep track of people who try to access their computer. You never know, they might try to retaliate on your because you're trying to port scan them or whatever. So watch out.
the free ones are outdate by many years and the new ones are charged unkewl... yet a great looking website..
They're still useful though. Like for doing school projects and stuff. Not for anything recent though.
Computer Science sucks. ;)
I was just looking over this thread and I still think computer science sucks.
During the years of Windows 95 and old versions of Linux, it used to be easy to crack. Any script kiddie could easily exploit their security flaws. Now it's tougher. A lot of those cracking progs no longer work anymore. If you want to hack you have to know your stuff. I'm not going to post ideas on what to do, but if you're interested on learning more about hacking, I suggest you pick up a copy of a magazine called 2600 from your local Barnes and Noble or Borders. Also pick up a book on network fundamentals, Linux, and programming. There are several legal books out there that show you how to hack and I suggest you pick one up.
Remember that hacking is legal. What people refer to illegal computer acts is actually cracking. It means penetrating a system by any means. This may include knowledge of hacking AND social engineering. You don't have to know either though because you could have some app that can crack automatically. The problem of course would be being untraceable, which is the hardest part for any cracker.

The installation is pretty straightforward. It used to be a pain in the neck to set up, but now they made it easier to get up and running. Check out http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/ and for installation: http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-5.0-doc/setup.html

<<Yup, I sure did, I watched it when I was young, I still remember that big gorilla say AhoooogaaAAA! And then squish some toad ass :p>>
Yeah, that show was a classic. Still, my favorite all-time saturday morning cartoon was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Nothing was better than waking up at 9AM every saturday morning to watch the show with a nice bowl of cookie crisp and hearing the song:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Heroes in a half-shell
Turtle power!They're the world's most fearsome fighting team (We're really hip!)
They're heroes in a half-shell and they're green (Hey - get a grip!)
When the evil Shredder attacks
These Turtle boys don't cut him no slack!Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesSplinter taught them to be ninja teens (He's a radical rat!)
Leonardo leads, Donatello does machines (That's a fact, Jack!)
Raphael is cool but crude (Gimme a break!)
Michaelangelo is a party dude (Party!)Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Heroes in a half shell
Turtle power!
But anyways...

Dang, there are alot of smart people. Where did you go to get these certs? I mean what courses did you take? and about how much did you pay for them?
I think most certs can be earned by reading books than taking a class. Of course college diplomas can only be earned by going to college. Doh. I don't think colleges that offer online classes have too much worth.

Did you mean Captain Bucky O'Hare?

I'm moving this to the hardware forum.
You want to experience evil and hell, come and work at a middle school for a week.
Try going through your last semester as a computer science major. 100% pure hell.
Yeah, I would definitely post snippets, but not if it's currently layed out the way it is, forum-like.
Have you ever noticed that in this forum under TechSupport...you have more people in the Macro$haft area than in the Linux area?
Just thought it was weird. I mean, I know when I got firebird configured just right for slackware...I haven't had to do jack squat for it. And using swaret...I'm set for packages. Anytime a security update comes out...I'm set within 1 hour. Makes me wonder how Macro$haft got anywhere at all.
I love Linux! :P :cheesy:
Are you a Linux advocate? If so, just keep in mind that Linux advocacy does not mean Microsoft bashing. I'm mentioning this by how you constantly demean the word Microsoft ("Macro$haft"). Linux/open source advocates tend to forget this. I say this because Microsoft bashing insults and irritates people, which is a lot of times why they turn away from Linux. Rather then basing Linux purely as a piece of software, they base it on the attitude of Microsoft haters. This is truly disgusting. Again, I'm not saying it's you, but you'll see what I mean if you post something like "I love Microsoft" at slashdot (where the admins there ridicule Microsoft all the time, yet have Microsoft ads on the site).
As much as I love Linux, people have told me that they loathe it. I think part of this has more to do with the community than the software. Also, I'm not trying to be on anyone's side. Linux and Windows both have their uses. I'm neutral towards both. I'm …

yes,online ebooks it outdated,but the ebooks at ftp site NOT outdated
How do we get to your FTP server? I did not see instructions for access.

i gots a t-shirt its the a penguin peeing on the a butterfly, i drew it took it to my local what is it, like printing shop, or something any way, they put it on a shirt for me its great ..
I went to the city the other day and saw a nice collection of custom made t-shirts. I saw one of Tux holding the MS butterfly in a butterfly net. It was ok I guess.
I think my favorite was the one of Gates spraying mace on Tux. LOL. Truly priceless!
The only thing I can think off hand is http://www.beautifier.org/
It's used for highlighting syntax of many languages including HTML. I never tried it though.
I have a function I use when I'm inserting snippets of code into a MySQL database:
function mysql_safe_data($string) {
$string = stripslashes($string);
$string = str_replace("'", "''", $string);
$string = str_replace("\\", "\\\\", $string);
return $string;
}
If you don't replace \\ with \\\\ you're going to have problems with slashes when you insert them into MySQL. Just try inserting this code that highlights text into MySQL through an HTML form and see what I mean.
function highlight($string, $words_to_highlight, $delimiter=" ", $case=0,
$left_string="<b span style=\"background-color: yellow;\">", $right_string="</b>") {
// This is so it highlights the first word. Each word in a textblock must be surrounded by
// [^A-Za-z] in order to highlight whole words, and not subwords.
/* Filtering Process:
Replace statements take out all malicious chars that would break the
search part of a regular expression. Takes unwanted chars and only lets the chars:
[^-a-zA-Z0-9&] in. */
$list_of_words = eregi_replace("[^-a-zA-Z0-9&']", " ", $words_to_highlight);
// This portion of code is to take out single word characters.
$list_array = explode(" ", $list_of_words);
for($i=0; $i<sizeof($list_array); $i++)
if(strlen($list_array[$i]) == 1)
$list_array[$i] = "";
$list_of_words = implode(" ", $list_array); // Use space as delimiter
$list_of_words = eregi_replace(" +", "|", $list_of_words);
// Make sure there aren't any pipes | around $list_of_words
if($list_of_words{0}=="|")
$list_of_words{0} = "";
if($list_of_words{strlen($list_of_words)-1}=="|")
$list_of_words{strlen($list_of_words)-1}="";
$list_of_words = "(".trim($list_of_words).")";
if($case==0)
return eregi_replace("$list_of_words", "$left_string"."\\1"."$right_string", $string);
else
return ereg_replace("$list_of_words", "$left_string"."\\1"."$right_string", $string);
} // end function highlight
In your while loop, you're telling it to loop five times and keeping track with variable count. Once you first enter the while loop, you're immediately incrementing it with the stament count++. Even if you're using this with a cout as output, it still increments it. What does this mean? It means that once it enter, it equals 1, and your statement of
if (count == 0) {
max = num;
min = num;
}
will never run. All you have to do is take the "++" from the "count" variable. You then increment this variable before another loop begins. Like this:
#include <iostream>
#include <stdlib.h>
using namespace std;
int main(void) {
double num, sum = 0, avg=0, max=0, min=0;
int count = 0; // loop counter variable
while (count < 5) {
cout <<"Enter number " << count << ":";
cin >> num;
sum = sum + num;
if (count == 0) {
max = num;
min = num;
}
if (num > max) {
max = num;
}
if (num < min) {
min = num;
}
count++;
}
cout <<"The number of values entered is " << count << endl;
cout <<"The sum of values entered is " << sum << endl;
avg = sum / count;
cout <<"The average of values entered is " << avg << endl;
cout <<"The maximum value entered is " << max << endl;
cout <<"The minimum of value entered is " << min << endl;
return 0;
}
…Nice 3D artwork. I used to do some work in 3D, mostly in trueSpace 2, to enhance my drawings. I sort of lost interest in 3D though. The only thing I'm doing nowadays is regular pencil drawings, which I've always been a fan of. I love pencils. ^_^
Here's an iguana I drew in pencil and modified in photoshop/trueSpace:

There is a place (Website Promotion) on this site, if you want to advertise.
The Web Site Promotion section shows you how to promote. It's for strategies. There's also a section underneath if you want to get your web site critiqued. It is NOT for shameless plugs, which some people think it is. ;)
I have a Macromedia certification in ColdFusion, and in May I'll have a bachelors in computer science and two minors: Psychology and Business Computer Information Systems.
In the future I plan on getting certified in MCSD, MCDBA, MySQL, and Sun Java Programmer. After I graduate, I'll take take the i-Net+, and after I pass that, I'm automatically qualified to get a CIW certification because their tests pretty much overlap. I just have to pay money, I forgot how much, and baddabing.
with al the nasty stuff that goes on with popes and the like (buggerinng young boys and stuff). i asked how could a god let something like this happen.
This is a very common question. I have heard the answer from Rabbis and Pastors that due to our limited human capacity, we simply don't know. A good comparison is if you imagine yourself staring at a picture that's the size of a wall. If you stand right in front of the wall, you don't see the entire picture, just part of it, thus not able to make out what it is, nor appreciate it. Because we're only human, we only get this kind of view on life, which of course is limited. God, on the other hand, was the creator of the picture and is able to see the picture in its entirety. I think, as a Christian, you'll be able to understand once you reach heaven.
Well, I know that electromagnetic signals travel at the speed of light. For an accurate reading, the formula v = d/t is not often used when the velocity is that of light. I don't know the formula off hand, but it's a special case I think. I mean, you can use it, but it won't be accurate. I think it has to do with mass, because the mass of the object increases exponentially as it reaches the speed of light. Don't remember though.
Anyways, yeah you can use it, but it won't be accurate. Also, you have the atmosphere layers of the earth and static to worry about. They'll slow down your signal. Anyways, you can still give the formula v = d/t a shot and use v = 3.0 x 10^8 m/s. You'd have to know the distance from the satellite. Do it twice and add them both up.
i hate c++:evil:
Why's that?
Not a bad resource, but a lot of the books are outdated. While browsing, I did not find anything new or "most popular" as you put it. Just my opinion. I'll let the users here decide. It's still a good resource so I'll let your plug stay.
feeling that!! --> Good
I think it's for beginners. It starts out very basic and assumes you have some programming knowledge. You said you've worked with JavaScript, so you should already know the basics. I recommend you look for this book at your nearest book store and skim through the first 20 pages. Read the intro too. This is the book I used to learn strictly C#, no web stuff.
Some concepts, I think, you'll have difficulty understanding no matter what book you use. If you've never done advanced C++ or Java programming, you might have a bit of difficulty understanding interfaces, delegates, and events. It's no problem though. You always have forum people to help you.
This interests me...I have to develop a form which can be used on a website too. How do I provide it as a download on the site as you have suggested above. Please remember that I need lots of guidance and give simple instructions!
If you just want the document for download, upload the document to your web server, and create a hyperlink to it. Make instructions to "right click and save as..."
You'll have better luck posting in the hardware forum. I'm moving this thread there.
late --> early
What's wrong with how it is laid out?
It's layed out like a forum. A lot of snippet/code web sites don't follow this format. Go to http://www.hotscripts.com. Click on a category, like "JavaScript." You get a list of titles for the scripts only, with no user comments underneath, just a brief description. You then click on the title of a script, then you get more information about the script. I think the user comments should go right there.
The C++, VB, and Java forums each have their own Code Snippets subforum.
How come snippets are only limited to "Application Programming" and not "Web Languages"?
Do you have to use ASP? I suggest using PHP. Even if you're using a Windows server, PHP is faster than ASP, and it's faster to develop stuff in. Do you already have VB code that you can implement in your ASP scripts? Do the services you have only work with ASP? Did you already configure your system just for ASP? These are the only reasons why you would want to use ASP. Overall, PHP outperforms ASP by a long shot. If you want an explanation, let me know.
