lol
Did you by any chance find it on google? ;)

psp8 has a brill background removal tool. ;)

Do you have another monitor that you could connect to your pc? it could be a problem with one of the pins in the monitor plug.

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

Well membership here: http://www.plasmadesign.co.uk/desktopwallpaper.htm costs £7, which isn't so bad...

Also you could visit: http://www.chadwickcmeyer.com/atot/ - the 2meg photos in there are hi-res ones.

Other than that, what exactly are you looking for? a pattern or a photo?

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

Try using fonts that both OS's use commonly... first pick for alot of websites is Verdana. I personally use this CSS tag for my fonts:

body { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Georgia; }

You should also specify a generic alternative in case the computer doesn't have the fonts you've specified:

body { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Georgia, sans-serif; }
DaveSW 15 Master Poster

ok can you clarify a few things for us:
1) What found this 'virus'?
2) What exactly did it say?

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

are you sure it's rundull32 not rundll32?

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

I believe your index page needs to be renamed to index.asp for asp code to work. Otherwise it will not be processed as ASP.
I use php and that's the way php works, so I guess asp is the same.

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

go to the paypalsucks.com site and click 'options'. There's a list there.

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

What keyword is really important though? Aren't you really looking for people who want php help or php forum? the other keywords seem vaguely related to the forum and not really people looking for a forum at all - though I agree it's desirable to get traffic from anywhere!

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

Can you post the content of the html file you're including?
Is your main page a .asp extension?
in the file to be included, have you just put the actual code you want to include - no doctyle or body tags etc?

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

Thanks DaveSW here is the primary site, and I just found those I posted initially just through browsing their items.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I tried to do something simple in Adobe with slices and it didn't work the way I thought it would. I have a training CD which I am going to try to go through.

:cool:

Have I missed a link in there? :!:

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

That's a neat idea. The other thing thing would be some <em> and <strong> tags on your keywords anywhere else you can find them or even in the titles... Use css to prevent any normal person seeing they're different, but search engines etc would get them emphasized.

I'd suggest more keywords in your title tag too. ;)

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

how about mentioning it twice...

php development - help with your php scripting problems

looking at google results i think that might be the answer ;)

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

How about: 'PHP Development - help forums' :D

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

I haven't checked your code here but anything wrapped in a header tag is instantly more important, and so getting your keywords in there is definitely beneficial...

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

Paladine, if you could give me links to one of those designs maybe I could have a go at making it in CSS. I will be busy in the next couple of weeks but I should be able to find the time somewhere.

Since I won't actually be using it hopefully I won't be breaching their copyright... Just proving a point... :lol:

I think he's saying that he actually uses the PayPal service (and therefore, the scripts they have running on their site). They don't offer any scripts.

Exactly what I meant. Sorry I didn't make that clear. :sad:

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

I've been googling it for a while and I can't find anything interesting. I do have a friend who is a genius with php/mysql etc but I don't think he'd be up for doing it for free if you see what I mean.

When you say Paypal is not easy enough... can I just point out they have recently updated their service. You no longer need a paypal account to send money - so anyone donating can just enter their credit card details, as they would have to do anyway.

Regards
Dave

I wasn't sure whether or not it was people abusing the system who are losing out, but having seen that they've been banned from operating in a number of American States I guess they can't be as white as all that!

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

What server side stuff does your server support? (just checking).

also if your server supports ASP you're missing a # -

<!-- #include file="ads.html" -->

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

You'd either use a large background image and use absolute positioning to just drop the stuff over the right part of the image, or you'd break the image up into smaller pieces and use them as backgrounds, repeating and tiling where necessary, and floating the stuff into position. The second option would have the best download time, the first would take about 20mins to make.

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

Storing credit card details is not recommended because of the massive security risks. Personally I'd use one of the premade scripts from someone like www.paypal.com or www.yowcow.com which allow you to receive donations but don't store any sensitive data on your servers.

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

you could try .png (portable network graphic files) or work on antialiasing your files.
Is there a reason why you can't just use text?

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

Generally you'd use another page to do it. e.g. index.htm would have your menu and the content for the index page. Page1.htm would have the menu and page 1's content.

A useful technique is the use of includes to add a menu or other reapeated code into multiple pages. http://www.hardcoder.com/scripting/php/include_files.php

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

what I mean is: can you give us a link to the page you are working on so we can see the problem for ourselves? It's rather difficult to diagnose the problem without really being able to see it.

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

you could try running stinger on there: http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

can you link to the page in question?

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

http://www.csszengarden.com/ - check out some of the different styles you can apply to one html page to completely change it. Some of these are nearly as good as the first ones posted I think, tho you have to look around to find the best ones.

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

As a general rule the aim is to get your information displayed in version 4 browsers, rather than actually rendered as it would be to a modern browser. With that aim in mind the @import hack is extremely useful: http://w3development.de/css/hide_css_from_browsers/import/

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

http://paypalsucks.com/ makes quite an interesting read about paypal actually... That was where I found YowCow.

edit: oops - I missed a page...

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

I've heard of www.yowcow.com but never tried them. They're really fast on email queries tho.

I'm a super-moderator over at Webdeveloper.com and our community over there grew with pretty much an absent admin. The way it works now is that admin people have a few posts every week and just keep an eye on things. Admin keep in close contact with the moderators, and we have our own hidden forum dedicated to moderators chat, what needs fixing etc. Admin keep up to date on that forum, skim in and out of the others to make sure everything's running smoothly, but generally the moderators lead the site. It works pretty well I think.

However, I would caution that this community is built fundamentally around your personality Dani, so I wouldn't take the example of webdeveloper.com as fitting perfectly with your site. I think most people on the forum think of themselves as your friends - this forum has a far more personal touch than webdeveloper.com, so by all means spend less time answering every post, but don't disappear altogether!

That's my opinion anyway
Dave

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

Yes that's right.
Basically we are moving the control point of the box to the center by telling it to use margins that are negative and half the width and height of the box. This means that when we position it 50% from left and top we are moving the center of the box to that position.
If you want to see how it works insert the lines of code one at a time, and watch how it changes it. First apply your dimensions, then your negative margins. then put your positioning in. That's how I figured it out the first time Ryan showed me. I actually have a demo built into one of my very early attempts at web design: http://www.emdevelopments.co.uk/tollgate/first/

Hopefully that's a little clearer? Maybe? Maybe Not?

BTW, don't worry too much if negative margins has you baffled. I still don't get Ryan's latest http://www.alistapart.com/articles/negativemargins/ :sad:

The DSO exploit can be fixed, but apparently the exploit itself is very old and unused by hackers any more. The way to fix it is to open regedit, find the registry key, delete the 1004 entry that throws up the error, create a new 1004 dword entry with a value of 3. I usually do it just to stop it appearing. Note you will have one in XP for every user area.

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

It certainly looks useful but I'm not altogether comfortable with the concept of the google toolbar, because Google can use it to track every site you visit. Google actually seem to be fanatical about collecting information on people's browsing habits, particularly when you consider their tracking cookies that you accept when you use the google search tool never expire, but continue to send info on the sites you've visited to google....

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

Nice one :D

DaveSW 15 Master Poster

It's simple to do actually. You use negative margins, and it works in IE5 upwards.

Here's a demo created by a mate of mine:

The point is with your sturgis buckles site that when google visits your homepage they get:

<html>
<head>
<title>Sturgis Rally Buckles</title>
<META name="description" content="22 Years of Commemorative Sturgis Rally Buckles">
<META name="keywords" content="22 Years of Commemorative Sturgis Rally Buckles,Commemorative,T-Shirts, Shirts, Harley-Davidson Shirts, VIDEOS,GIFTS,2004,2003,1982,1984,Special Prices,">
</head>
<frameset rows="100%,*" border="0">
<frame src="http://webmakrexpress.com/sturgisbuckles.html" frameborder="0">
<frame frameborder="0" noresize>
</frameset>
</html>

Which results in the following display in google:
http://www.google.com/search?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sturgisbuckles.com%2F&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

And if we search for the two words of your domain seperately you're at the bottom of page 3:
http://www.google.com/search?q=sturgis+buckles&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&start=20&sa=N

If the domain was directly attached to the domain rather than using a frames redirect it would give google more content to index on the primary and presumably most important page of your site. Therefore I'd agree with Arizona Web.

That's my 2p of opinion.

Hi
Looks like an awkward issue. Maybe as a temporary fix you could try using a free editor just to keep you running:
e.g. www.gimp.org or www.irfanview.com

I've tried googling the issue and the information I've seen generally has no fix...
So far the most helpful option I've seen is reinstalling the software, but slim hopes there I'm afraid!

Have you recently installed/updated some software? Particularly internet firewalls/security/antivirus?

Best Wishes
Dave

Thank you so much for sharing that URL. I just checked it out and it's really great. I might even use it myself to make all of DaniWeb CSS friendly!

Glad you like it! There's also list-o-matic...

I'm always a fan of fluid css layouts and php includes.
I also like layout-o-matic - http://www.inknoise.com/experimental/layoutomatic.php although I always build my own layouts from scratch.

If all computer programmers sat in boxes and didn't talk then we'd have the wonderful situation where they wouldn't know what the general public wanted from their programs... Which seems to be fairly common at the moment lol.

I think Communication is essential for a programmer.
