>so, sturm... you haven't ever had faith in anything?
Nope. Don't believe in it.
>so, sturm... you haven't ever had faith in anything?
Nope. Don't believe in it.
foolish belief?
Illogical belief?
Naive belief?
Unscientific belief?
>Incorrect. As I understand it, there is quite a bit of historical evidence outside of the bible that supports his existence.
No one is disputing Jesus's existence.
>At the camp, Fischer stresses the need for children to purify themselves in order to be part of the "army of God." She strongly believes that children need to be in the forefront of turning America toward conservative Christian values. She also feels that Christians need to focus on training kids since "the enemy" are focused on training theirs.
I think thats pretty scary.
A bit off topic but has anyone seen jesus camp? Truly disturbing in my opinion.
use a linux live cd.
>Atheists hold a religious believe (meaning a believe without any scientific evidence to back it up) in the non-existence of god(s). I keep my options open, there may be something out there that fits the definition of a god but I lack the faith to believe in it/him/her. Show me that scientific evidence though and I'll reconsider, something an atheist would not do.
Im an atheist and I don't have a religious opposition of god, not anymore than I oppose Santa Clause or the Boogie Monster. Atheism is not a state of absolutism or a religious-like stance, but more a commitment to logic and science.
How do you manage this while using linux?
I don't think its on many people's radar.
get your data and reinstall.
Ok so I made the following script:
#!/bin/sh
if ! ps -C screen > /dev/null
then
exec xterm -fg green -bg black -e screen
else
if ps -C xterm > /dev/null
then
exec xterm -fg green -bg black -e screen
else
exec xterm -fg green -bg black -e screen -r
fi
fi
This script is run whenever I open a terminal. The problem is that on line 11 and error occurs if there are multiple screen sessions unattached screen sessions. Is there anyway to determine the pid of a
process?
>do graphics card go in notebooks? if so would a GeForce 6800 or ATI Radeon X850 fit?
You will want to get a video card specifically designed for laptops. The Nvidia Go series cards should work fine.
> need some help on a few things... i have a Dell x300 notebook and i want to upgrade 2 a pentium 4.. can i?
Sure. I would recommend to upgrade to a Intel core 2 duo.
Right here I guess.
check your bios and make sure that it is booting to the harddrive first.
You could try opening up the computer and removing and putting back the cmos battery on your motherboard.
>Come on guys... is anyone going to be on my side? If not, I'm just gonna stop debating because everyone obviously has their minds made up and I've spoke what I've had to say.
Daniweb, I think usually attracts open minded people.
> Okay, here is where I can prove that homosexuality is a decision... first of all - when my gay friend tells me that he chose to be gay. And second - when homosexuality is considered "abnormal" and "unnatural" because it causes the inability to reproduce in the human race. Homosexuality is a lifestyle, not based on genetics. Even science does not support the claim that homosexuality is genetic... and you can find evidence everywhere. Scientists have actually discovered that most of the reason why people are homosexual is due to environmental factors that can elicit some behavior.
And science determines your beliefs? Thats a good one.
>And if anyone has noticed, homosexuality/bisexuality has become more and more prominent... why? Because society has let it become an "okay" lifestyle.
Wow its called the zeitgeist moving toward the left (its also known as "progression"). Usually intelligence comes with acceptance. Take a group of scientists and a group of rednecks and see the contrast in opinion. Being left handed has also become more prominent. (since the middle ages) Does that mean more people are left handed? I seriously doubt it. More people than ever have autism or Asperger 's syndrome (which I have btw) than ever. Does this mean the number of autistic people has increased? Probably not.
>People who want to control what others are allowed to do in order to satisfy their moral prejudices aren't evil, immoral, or nasty?
No, its called human nature. (which I suppose could be called evil, immoral, and nasty)
>PETA has documented links with several ecoterrorist groups, including highranking members being members of both and PETA supplying substantial funding and information to those groups.
So yes, they're a terrorist organisation for all purposes. This may not be known to most of their lowranking members who just fall for the public PR campaign (though how anyone'd fall for such smut as they pour out is beyond me), but certainly to the mid and top cadre.
Ok PETA maybe is a terrorist organizations but to say that all PETA members should be removed from society is a bit to far.
> PETA is a terrorist organisation. Anyone supporting them is a supporter of terrorism and should be removed from society.
I think thats going a bit to far. Do you think that supporters or members of PETA are bad people? My friends mom used to be a member of PETA and she doesn't strike as a particularly evil, immoral, and nasty person. How can you justify your absolutist stance? If anything we should get rid of closed minded individuals such as yourself.
Ok. Try opening a terminal ~100 or so times. Is your harddrive spinning?
>You're asking the right question. Why in the world would he do that? But let's look at it this way... God 'bashes' murderers, liars, cheaters, thieves, adulterers, etc. even though they are His creation also.
Like Ancient Dragon said, you don't choose to be gay, its akin to being of low intelligence. Do people choose to have a low iq? No they don't.
mm apparently you didn't believe me.
No. Its completely virtual. Your harddrive for all intents and purposes to debian is the space you alloted when first creating your virtual machine. (usaully 4-8 gb)
Did you burn the image or is vmware booting from the image on your computer? I haven't used vmware extensively but booting from a real cd would probably be easier.
>but just out of curiosity. i used to be a christian myself and we both know that he is a very strict patriach. how are you going to explain yourself to him?
Lets assume a god does exist. And lets assume this god is intelligent. In fact lets assume I am this god. Would I personally respect an individual who was cowed, by fear and hatred directed at him by society, into doing or not doing something as the case may be? Or would I respect an individual who, despite the fear, hatred, and bigotry, had the courage to stand up and defy society?
I respect people who are different probably the most. Because if your different than chances are your better than most people.
you could blacklist it I guess.. not sure how to do it with non BSD init scripts or ubuntu (yes BSD init scripts rock). Ubuntu tends to complicate things by making them simple!
I never get spam on my main gmail account. I have another account that I sign up for things with.
For just programming vmware should be fine. Debian is pretty straight forward you shouldn't have problems.
Not handling dependencies very well, slow, unreliable, etc. I have always heard that debs are better.
Sorry but I don't care enough. When we eliminate human cruelty and human poverty maybe...
I have always heard that RPMs are pretty bad.. is that true?
> by the way i like your signiture. it is so true.
Thanks.
Well programmers do work more hours than most people right? (I was always under the impression that programmers were expected to pull "all nighters" )
you could boot up with a linux distro that allows you just to install grub i.e gentoo, debian, arch, slackware etc. Im to lazy right know to figure it out but you can reinstall grub with the grub shell.
>You know what I want when I die? Nothing.. I wouldn't care if people kicked my body around, took a crap on it, or even fed it to their dog.. lol b/c I'd be dead! It's not like I'm going to know..
I would want my body donated to some medical school.
use debian for servers. (many distros including gentoo and arch get a new kernel every week or something. Its really annoying)
>I completely agree with that sentiment, but I don't think its about teaching serious programming to kids, its more about the basic ideas (especially if its at the age where they're still learning multiplication tables)
but c++ can be as easy or complicated as you want right? By using a few high level graphics libraries (allegro comes to mind) and only focusing on the very basics of c++ you can program some pretty cool games.
oh and also maybe kids should just start off with logic circuits. This would teach them logic that is fundamental to all programming languages.

First of all im not modest, im extremely arrogant. Im not exceptionally loyal to anyone except myself.
Whats wrong with c/c++? Anything can be taught to anyone at the right pace.
You mean on my server? I don't believe so.. (debian isn't configured with a working iptables install by default is it?)
Im using apache on debian linux. Heres my forwarding page: (note that before I forwarded to port 80 I could only access my website with the unique ip addresss my router gave all of the computers in my network. After forwarding I could just use the external ip address)
>What makes programmers busier than any other profession?
The fact that many of them work 80 hour weeks?
can you ping any websites? find your ip address, does it change? (I assume ipconfig \all shows your ip address? I currently don't have access to a windows machine) Is it possible that your firewall is blocking port 80?
>After talking to a friend, I'm thinking of running Virtual PC instead of partitioning my drive. Anybody know of pros and cons regarding both methods?
If you want to run a virtual machine I would recommend vmware server edition, its free and _a lot_ faster and better than Virtual PC.
pros about Virtual Machines:
* easy to set up and it allows you not to partition your harddrive
* allow you to run multiple operating systems at the same time
cons about Virtual Machines:
* very slow and usaully don't support 3d graphics (I think vmware fusion does but im not sure)
About partitioning your harddrive most linux distros come with partitioning tools. The tool depends on the distro, so what distro are you planning to use?
But my web server runs on port 80... (I have already forwarded port 80 to my server.)
I can access my website with my external static ip address. Anyone outside my wifi cant access my website. I assume this is a router problem? How do I allow other computers to allow access to my server?
