Sounds like a broken monitor sorry to say. The only other thing I could think is that the laptop external monitor port was also broken, but i doubt it. As for repairs, theses days its cheaper to buy a new monitor than to get it repaired. GL

I would look into the power being the cause of the problem. Maybe check the PC power supply's also , they may still work but if there not outputting the correct voltage/current (which could have been caused be the dodgy power socket ) then it might be shorting the HDD's. …

Like Titan said you should run Fdisk, Partitioning and installing from the laptop. I have run into many conflicts when installing windows via another computer (if thats what you are doing). Maybe checking to make sure the hdd doesn't have bad sectors might be the go too. Hope it helps
