Sounds like your mobo just can't handle the xtra RAM my friend. Have u checked the version online for any updates, or indeed restrictions? To fully eliminiate RAM, can u send it back and get replacement ones from whoever u got it from, saying u think it's faulty?

Nice one for sussing that out, well done.

Hi, what software did you use to play the game. Even I have a Hauppage capture card. But the lag between the controls and display is unbearable. Im using the software given along i.e. WinTV2000. Do you have any suggestions?
Please reply to roshan_simon@hotmail.com

Hi Roshan, and welcome to Daniweb.

A few housekeeping points first of all

1. Do try to resist the temptation to piggy-back on another thread here, you stand a better chance of getting helped if you open up your own thread with as much info as possible. Also in this particular situation, this thread was last replied to, exactly 2.5 years ago! I've even changed computers in that time! It just makes more sense to use your own thread.

2. I doubt anyone would, and do not recommend anyone (especially Mods) to either leave personal details in forums, or email people personally, except in the forums for business purposes etc. So I doubt jbennet is going to email you if he does get to look at this thread.

Having said all that, I will say this about your problem:

Even though your TV card is old, I reckon the reason for the lag is an old motherboard and therefore an old graphics card that can't handle the PS2.
So my suggestion is upgrade your graphics card (and probably motherboard in the process), upgrade your monitor to an LCD TV/ monitor (which is what I do now, so I …

In case anyone was wondering, the issue here turned out to be that I had a case of the Conficker. Strain A to be exact. Anyway a combination of the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and McAffee AV sorted it right out.

Good day,

Odd bits:
The ear wax of many Asians is dry and tan to golden as opposed to others' that are waxy and sort of orangery.

Approximately 50% of the population can smell Asparagus by-products in urine - if you do not know what I mean, you are on the other side of the 50%.

How is this even possible? Some clever piece of DNA that splits itself between 50% of the population?! What does Asparagus even smell like?!

Thinka 40 Posting Whiz Team Colleague

Lol, how embarassing. Turns out it wasn't just random server downtime going on, I was in actual fact confickered. The Win32/Conficker.B strain to be precise. I couldn't browse any PC security, AV-company websites. Fixed it by downloading Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and leaving it to run and deal with problems it found. Also disabled my network card as a precaution. And it didn't spread on my home network because McAfee did its job. Which means it's just gone up to 2nd place in my list of fave AV s/ware that I've actually used. Kaspersky is 1st, in case you were wondering.

Thinka 40 Posting Whiz Team Colleague

Yea thanks, I honestly didn't think it was a problem on my end or I wouldn't have posted in Geeks Lounge

I'm not even joking, it's not working for me - not on IE, not on Firefox, not gonna bother trying on Chrome. I can't even ping it! Malware??

Thinka 40 Posting Whiz Team Colleague

Well it's either this, or the domain name has been removed from the routing table. Or my Firefox is just being very biased about my browsing experience!:) Go on, try it out now (note depending on when you're reading this, it might have come back up and so it'll just be a random strange claim)

It's a shame that there is no universal button to increase the intelligence on TV. You can try the increasing "Brightness" setting, but it doesn't do anything.

My bad, I should have said:

I've got a PCI card, which is a Netgear MA311, and I've got a USB adapter, which is a Netgear Rangemax WPN111.

Have you looked at NDISwrapper?

Tell me more about this NDISwrapper pls

It is going to differ depending on your wireless device. On my laptop, the wireless worked straight away (Ubuntu 8.10).

That's cool, I suspected that Ubuntu might be easier, but I'm desperately trying to use the less linux-newbie-friendly in the hope that I'll learn more. And I AM learning, it's just that the main lesson seems to be "Debian is no picnic in the park".

Thinka 40 Posting Whiz Team Colleague

Hahaha, well done mate.

Easy when you know how eh? :icon_cheesygrin:

Thinka 40 Posting Whiz Team Colleague

Is it me or is it easier to configure a home network in XP than to setup a wireless adapter in Debian??? I've read through various online resources about iwconfig, ifconfig, linux_wan, orinoco but I still don't get it. And more importantly I couldn't get it to work!

Is Ubuntu easier, in which case I might just install that. I only went for Debian because:

1) Seeing as Ubuntu is based on it, I thought it would be better to use the "base" model if you like;
2) I preferred the default Blue Theme :$. Although if I can get the blue theme on Ubuntu, then I might just install that instead...

Mate, I ain't no expert but here:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop.

Rename it to something random, like doit.exe. This is because some malware will prevent you from installing anti-spyware software using the software name.

* DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.

If you are unable to update MBA-M, go to http://www.gt500.org/malwarebytes/database.jsp and download the latest database, then run it.

Hope that helps mate.

Cool problem. You can do it in two weighings.

Edit - I explained how, but after thinking about it, I took down the explanation in case other people want to puzzle over it themselves.

As a generalization, if you have n balls and one of them is heavy, how many weighings does it take?

I've been thinking about it, and I can't work it out. Pray tell, what be the answer?

Check the video page here. Now I'm not big on web programming but u'll notice the "flip" variable in the URL.

And then in the blue bar on the right-hand-side click on 'Tips for viewing the new layout' for more info. :D
Don't know how long they'll keep it live for, but I hope for a month at least.

AAAND, I believe you can just add '&flip=1' to the end of any video and it'll work.

Thinka 40 Posting Whiz Team Colleague

Oh no no no, the video actually played - UPSIDE DOWN! That's what made it convincing! And then it was suggested to turn your head to one side to get the best viewing pleasure!!

Hahahaha this made me chuckle so I thought i'd share. I went on YT today, just to test flash functionality with a new browser and OS, and I clicked on a random vid of the IT Crowd. And then got a screen with most of it upside down.

Wasn't quite sure what to make of it until I clicked a link on the page that said "Tips for viewing the new layout". It's not with every video, so not sure which ones you'd have to view. The one I was watching is called IT Crowd Series Episode I - Bullies.

I just entered bios and had HardDisk as first boot and then CDROM and I disabled other boot devices, and this seemed to work. Just odd it happened all of the sudden.

That's what I thought would be the problem. And as an aside, you might want to have your CD Drive as your first boot device - for that day that you want to do a recovery/re-install u know?

Hey bud,

This is what Microsoft's website says:

* Use either the graphical user interface (GUI) or the shutdown command again.
* Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and then while pressing CTRL, click Shut Down to force a shutdown.
* Press the reset or power button on the computer.

Not terribly helpful I know, but that's what it is, and it's probably because:
"Currently there are no Microsoft Knowledge Base articles available for this specific error or event message. For information about other support options you can use to find answers online, see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx"

Now I haven't visited that link, but I bet it'll be as useful as a chocolate teapot ;)

Hey DW peeps,

Got the audio/video stuttering thing on my XP computer that started randomly - after I installed Debian 5 (though onto a diff HD to what XP is installed on) ;)

Didn't think my dual booting should have anything to do with it and so I've posted here. I've run Mbam and it did find something (can't remember what unfortunately :$ ) which I removed, but that didn't solve the problem.

So I've run a HJT scan, and the log file is below. I feel as if some things should not be on there like the BitComet, Ares, Skype and Messenger stuff as I rarely run those - I even forgot I had Ares on there!!

Thinka 40 Posting Whiz Team Colleague

Wow, ok guys, quite a few updates to post on here.

Firstly, the sound issue was fixed. It turns out that it was conflicting software (Sybot S&D for anyone interested) that was messing with it. That was uninstalled and the sound came back. That's the good news.

The bad news is, the user then tried to install the Vista SP1 update. Not only that, but during the update, they decided for whatever reason to turn off the computer whilst it was updating (they presumably got tired of waiting). BAAAD MOOOOVE! The well documented 0xc0000034 error.

So as you will read in other cases, an attempted repair yields no result (probably because it was an Acer with no recovery partition drive). The attempt to start windows normally or with the last working configuration yields the afore-mentioned error msg. Starting in safe mode crashes at crcdisk.sys.

To cut a VERY long troubleshooting experience short, I had to look to reinstall Vista as chkdsk with a Vista Recovery Disk wouldn't work so the obviously corrupted harddrive couldn't be fixed thru there, nor could it be fixed by selecting the repair option. In the end the user (luckily) had access to a Vista Installation CD, and decided to use that to re-install the OS. They had their documents and software backed up so there was no issue there. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a hold of the user to find out how the re-installation went, …

Thinka 40 Posting Whiz Team Colleague

Hey starfire thanks.

I'm actually not as much of a noob as I apparently sound. I know what the triangles mean, and I have installed new drivers, but like I said up there, they don't have any effect on the machine that's the problem! The machine doesn't recognise that I have installed (for instance) the latest Realtek drivers, whether I run the setup exe, or go through Device Manager and use 'Have Disk' (actually when I use Have Disk, it doesn't find a compatible driver). Most probably because I am trying to find an updated driver for a Microsoft High Definition Audio Device, in a folder containint Realtek drivers :-p

Thinka 40 Posting Whiz Team Colleague

Hi guys I've got a good one.

Colleague brought problem to me, as subject says it's an ACER Aspire 9303 (specs here). The user turned it on (hadn't used it since before christmas) and apparently found out that sound not working. I'm led to believe it worked at some point before Christmas. What you get now in the system tray is the equivalent of "no audio mixers installed" (an X across the sound icon).

The user tried restoring to a previous point but apparently didn't help. I tried installing the drivers given on ACER website (Realtek ones) but it has no effect. Nothing happens after computer is restarted. The account is definitely the administrative account. In Device Manager, there is a yellow triangle on the "Microsoft High Definition Audio..." device. That is the only sound device that's shown. When I check the properties on there, there's a Code 37, which apparently means that Windows cannot initialize the device driver. Which gives me the cause, but no fixes. The only fixes I've seen on the internet is when people have that problem with an optical drive.

I should say at this point, there are also yellow triangles on some other items in Device Manager: the display device (NVidia GeForce Go 7200), the two processor cores (AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52), and a PCI ISA Bridge or something. Last thing I'm gonna try tomorrow (when next I can get access to the laptop) is d/l MBAM and …

Hallo,

Look here or here for more information about the phone. Mpeg & Mpeg-4 (mp4 format) is the standard. So you would want to rip your DVD into that format. Unfortunately I can't advise on what ripping or converter software to use as I haven't tried to do it yet (I have the same phone and for the moment I am content just listening to music on it when on the train or bus :-)).

I do think it should be able to handle other file formats as well tho, basically anything that's been Xvid encoded. Have you tried to play any of your films on ur HD on the TyTN with no success?

Thinka 40 Posting Whiz Team Colleague

... you would lose about 60% of the strength of your grip.

How does one calculate this? The "60% strength of grip" I mean?

Thinka 40 Posting Whiz Team Colleague

Okay it seems to be a codec problem. The .acc format worked. Is that something specific that I download?

For the K-Lite codec pack click here. Download and run the installer. I believe you'll get the chance to select what codecs(formats) you want. No need to select anything that you've already got and which works.
