Clicking back arrow top left on Explorer goes back two or three pages sometimes not the previous page, , alternates between first and third page sometimes too, how to fix this?

Here is the problem and it does seem like some sort of setting but not sure.

When I copy from a word doc and click the left side of the mouse and drag and highlight the text and then lift up the left side of the mouse the highlight doesnt stay on and I have to try and highlight a few times before I can click copy.

I noticed that it only starts doing that after about 10 sucessful highlight and copies then has a hard time highlighting.

I have windows Vista on my HP laptop. The user administrator and standard accounts have always acted wierd.

Here is what it does the admin account acts like a standard and the standard acts like a admin. If I click on a function on the admin side say change firewall settings it says I do not have admin privledge to change setting but I can do this function on the standard side. I never set up a password for the admin side but sometimes prompts me to enter password. I was not able to set up my wireless modems settings on the admin side but was able to on the standard.

If I go into the control panel and go to the user accounts it wont let me modify, delete or create a new admin or standard account If I go to create new account it gives me the following error:
"The following account name is not valid because account names cannot contain the following {}":;/<>+=,?*" Please type a different name"

I did that and no nothing is stuck, what seems to be the problem.

I figured out the certificate errors, a week ago
I downloaded photoshop c3 from a buddy and had to change the date to 2007 on my computer to have it work, I just changed it back to the the current date and time and presto no certificate errors, the other questions I am still workin on.

3 questions please if I may.

1. Why do I get security certifcate errors? I lately keep getting them with sites I use all the time, like craigslist, godaddy, others?

2. Why do sometimes I start my computer and all my icons are all mixed up on the desk top?

3. Why does sometimes MS word when I am typing wont use space bar correctly and starts erasing the next letter , what i mean is if i miss a letter in a word and bring the cursor bar back in the middle of a word and type the letter in it deletes the next letter in sequence?

Very common thing i am sure and was able to get rid of others before but i have this popup for a virus removal that looks very similar to the Windows security shields, it keeps popping up for a download from netsecurityonline.com and powerfulvirusremoval2008.com and I cant get rid of it even with the spyware removal I have been using. Yes I have done a search on my computer for files first and a few more times since, the only thing I have found was on the dates around the time I brought folder to desk top I found my folder under a ".ink" under "Recent Documents" but when I open it goes to missing link.

I still have not found the files under file recoveries anywhere.

I wish I only dreamed it.

What happened was I had the 2 folders in a briefcase but every time I opened up those folders in the briefcase and tried to open a file I kept getting an error that I cant open because "another computer was using that briefcase or document?" or something like that, I do not know what that means so I copied and pasted the folders out of the briefcase onto the desktop and started using but forgot to put them back in the briefcase, a couple days later they were gone from the desktop.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I tried Pandora and found nothing. I am using Recuva and found nothing yet but still searching.

But here is the odd thing, in the Recuva search I found almost every file I deleted in the past 5 years or so and most say 100% written and unrecoverable but it still shows the file names and last modified but I can not find one single file that I am looking for from the folders I supposedly deleted 5 days ago, almost like I never deleted it, but I still can not find on my computer, could it be hidden somewhere?

I deleted some folders from desktop and can not find.

I am sure a common question but really need some help.

I do not remember this happening but a few days ago I put 2 folders on my desk top and must have deleted them and then sent to recycle bin and deleted from there I am very good at not doing that and again do not remember doing that. I searched everywhere. I do not have any money so I downloaded a free file recovery software "Pandora recovery".

In the folders that where deleted one was about 100 saved website links, the other one was about 15 word docs.

I searched in the Pandora file recovery software for the names of the folders and can not find, I searched names of the word docs in the folder and can not find, I did find other stuff I deleted years ago. It doesnt look like my files are anywhwere in the deleted section.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where the folders might be? When you delete folders does the contents get spread out so I can search for the files in the folder by name?

Something weird is happening i cant seem to log onto yahoo all day, I was able to check mail but was in a weird display format but now i keep getting this error message below all day but surfing and searching other places has been fine.

Os XP. About a week ago I had about 30% resourse left on 20g c drive of a older computer. and downloaded about 40 pics and I downloaded adobe acrobat reader 8. I checked my resource and and I was very low down to 150mb and was getting alerts. I deleted about the same amount of pics as downloaded and checked again and I was still about the same, resourse keeps going down not up when I delete stuff. I checked virus spyware and all clear. How am I using that much resourse?

I Norton scanned and Webroot scanned and status shows all clear of the nasty virus from spyware sheriff, however my home page redirects to only msn.com.

last night when I was surfing I ended up on this page and it has me good ever since, yahoo home page wont come back unless I go through a documents back door, it always redirects forwards to http://antispylab.com/, I keep getting yellow triangle messages with a exclamation point about serious spyware going on. Internet options is froze everywhere except home page change, but always redirects from a "windows" look alike help page back to that Antispylab page. I get message local authority service "Isass.exe" teminated unexpectally with status 1073741818.

I have saved, deleted and froze all my personal stuff.

Can someone throw me a link to get rid of this, I would love it.

Hi, I have win xp and explorer and starting yesterday when I seach the net and open up links, each link keeps relacing itself with the new link I just opened up, rather than listing them all in a row at the bottom, why is that happening?

Hello I have a couple year old "Adobe Premiere 6.0" video editing software that I want to download on my computer, I have Win XP and when I install the cd and click download I get this error message.

"16 bit windows subsystem - C:\windows\systems\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications".

What does that mean?

I can maximize from the bottom bar only, it doesnt open explorer maximized.

I have standard slow dial-up. Why would I need to disconnect dial-up for faster shut down?

Two troublshoots please

1. When I click on "explorer icon" it opens up at bottom task bar and not full screen.

2. When I click "turn-off" through windows xp I have to disconnect online before it shuts down or it takes a really long time.

Hi, This is a great site. I'm still a newbie techie so bear with me. I Finally bought an XP upgrade for Win 98 a couple days ago and so far I'am very happy and pleased and wonder why I didnt upgrade long ago. I have never seen a pop-up since, it is quiet as a mouse. However I have two (2) questions

When I boot up it goes to a black screen that asked me what operating system I want to use. It lists "Microsoft Windows XP home edition" TWICE. When I click on the first one it goes to the one that is working correctly. When I click on the second Win XP O.S it goes to about the half way point of the installation process and ask me to insert the Win XP CD. How do I get that non functional operating system off there?

Second question. I save all of my documents and briefcase stuff on a Yahoo e-mail as a back up. When I installed XP over 98 it did say that I might lose everything in my documents and all my other files if I install so I thought I lost everything in documents or briefcase. I was looking on the harddrive and I found another documents that had all my files from win 98 I was over joyed but I looked for my files that were in my briefcase but could not find them. Could they be somewhere around? I have …

Hell is this a virus, my mouse pointer binds up and everything else sometimes. I cannot even ctrl,alt,delete........nothing

I had that problem with my computer at one time, but didnt put in a new hard drive. I just re-installed the graphics drivers for my computer and that worked.

O.S win 98. What the heck is Iexplore? When I try to connect on-line through internet explorer a error message says " Iexplore has caused an invalid page fault in module kernel dll ............................"

The only way I can log on is to go to internet options. Click on connections ( when it doesnt bind up). Remove dial-up number from connections, shut down, restart and start over with Internet wizard and enter dial-up number again.

I cannot open "dial-up networking" under my computer, it just wont let me open up icon.

What kind of miserable bug is this??

And not a minute later. Hello I have crappy system. Windows 98 in a E-machine ( remember them, lets not go there), Pentium Celeron 600m computer. I have had this for years and do not have a cd burner and my A drive floppy doesnt work. I have a lot of text documents and briefcase items I saved though.

How can I transfer those documents and briefcase Items from Win 98 on to a new computer and operating system ?

And if possible could you just blurt out a system you like ( i.e Dell,Gateway etc.) and the O.S you like. I would like something fast 2 gigish or so. I want to use it for Internet, video editing software and would like a cd/dvd burner in it..

Thank you for your advice, I closed all programs and was able to defrag in normal mode. However I believe I was "hijacked" or whatever that means.

When I boot up I cant open explorer or get dial-up properties so I can log on.

And I cant open documents or briefcase. With numerous shutdowns and restarts I am able to get to dial-up eventually but my homepage instead of yahoo says "homepage.com" and under internet options my homepage is "http://%68%6F%6D%65%70%61%67%65%2E%63%6F%6D%00@%77%77%77%2E%65%2D%66%69%6E%64%65%72%2E%63%63/%68%70/

I have win 98. And had a problem with using the maintenance wizard to defrag and clean up hard drive. It kept restarting itself and I had to defrag in "safe mode" However everytime I use the safe mode for that it messes up my icons on my desktop and briefcase and documents and I have to re-arrange everytime....... Is there anyway to stop that? Thank you

I was finally downloaded the Java J2SE v 1.4.2_03. But I still cant use java chat rooms and still get error as in my first post. In control panel there is a coffee cup java icon and scrolling through all the options everything seems enabled. Whats up with my chat, I know I'm not banned from these sites. Sorry for being persistant but this is driving me nuts.

I cant seem to download that java platform. I tried it twice offline and online and after it opens and I try to download java I get an error message that says,

" Error 1101. Error reading file C:/window/temp/_ isbico/1033. MST.verify file exists and that you can access it."

And then it boots me off.

O.S Win 98. Just downloaded Internet Explorer 6 a couple weeks ago and cant enable java chat rooms now. When I try to log on to most chat rooms I get no error message except a colored square,circle,triangle inside a bigger square. I checked internet options -advanced section and java VM is enabled. security settings at medium. Everything seems on........why cant I chat?
