Don't know why it wouldn't work with win98 if it will work on win ME it should work on 98 have you loaded the drivers and software that came with it on you computer yet .if it asks what OS you have just say win ME or win 2000

VIrtualBouncer malware from Spyware Labs. It is distributed by the same bundling and drive-by download techniques as the parasites it claims to remove, so definitely qualifies as unsolicited commercial software in itself. It also has an update feature that can download and execute arbitrary code. Warning - choose "custom" uninstall as "automatic" may remove other programs.

I have done everything I know to get rid of this spyware that is plagueing me. Elite ToolBar and WWWCoolSearch just will not die! I have deleted them with NAV, I have deleted them with Spybot, I have used CWShredder. I have deleted the bad files from where they are. I have deleted them from the registry, and I have used HijackThis. At one point I was 100% I had it clean, but I had to get on another computer and download WinsockXPFix because getting rid of the spyware had made it to where I couldn't get online. After I ran that I could get back online, but the spyware came back. Obviously I'm missing something, or I keep going to the same bad places when I get online. What do I need to do? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I was reading a post how someone had problems putting in a video card. The solution was they did not plug their monitor into the new card. Me being full of my self thought wow that was dumb. So having problems with my sound on my computer. Messed with it for 2 weeks was ready to give up and just go buy a new card. The solution. The speaker jack was not fully plugged in. That will teach me to be smug. Now what is the dumbest thing you ever did?? Thought this may be fun........peace.......im out

Read this post !LOL just kidding !!I don't do dumb things !
No really dumbest thing I ever did was in my early computing days ,on a win 3.11/486 with a 40meg HD ,in my attempt to free up space on the drive i deleted files ,thought it would be smart to delete files created on the day i was deleting them !After a reboot was when i first learned of a Swap file .! Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

  1. Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  2. Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
  3. Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  4. Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to …

This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:

Step 1:Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

also empty your recycle bin ,
good luck.

Please do this.
Download 'Hijack This!'. HijackThis
Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\HJT\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. Since Temporary folders are emptied now and then (the files are DELETED), it would not be a good idea to have your backups there. Those backups would be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Close ALL windows except HJT

4. SCAN with HJT

5. POST the new log in this thread using 'Add Reply'

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO YOUR COMPUTER'S HEALTH

Many thanks. I'll try that.

2. Another cleanup that will help is to go to Start>Programs>Acccessories>System Tools> Disk Cleanup and put a check mark beside all the entries in the disk cleanup window that ask you what you want to clean. Clean all hard drives and all files. This will get rid of any malware that is hiding in the temporary folders.

3. Make sure that all are gone, by checking the folders that the Temporary Internet Files and Temp files are stored in. To do so use Control Panel > Internet Options(or right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Properties). Click Delete Files on the General Tab - place a check in the Delete all offline content box, then 'Clear History' and then press OK (or go direct to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofilename\Local Settings\Temp\ folder) and
C:\Documents and Settings\userprofilename\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\)

4. Empty your Recycle Bin

5. Double Check the following folders to make sure they are empty:
C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\your account\Temporary Internet Files
Delete all the files in (and any subfolders of) the C:\Windows\Temp\ folder (or go direct to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofilename\Local Settings\Temp\ folder) and C:\Documents and Settings\userprofilename\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\)

6. You may find that you have to repeat the steps a couple of times.

Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

I cant find any info on this one ,but it looks fishy ! and when you can't find any info it usually means it bad !
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AITwoUpdater] "C:\Program Files\AIUpdate\AIUpdate.exe

The next 3 are optional but recomended, because they are rescorce hog and not needed in startup.

O4 - Startup: Microsoft Find Fast.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\FINDFAST.EXE

O4 - Startup: Office Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA.EXE

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)
