Hello,

My computer is afflicted with ispynow, which prompts a phony message every 12 minutes saying just that and asking me to buy protection from some bogus third party site. Anywho, I've been reading some of the ispynow threads, and have found the following files on my computer:

system32:
TDSSfpmp.dll
TDSSosvd (DAT file)
TDSStkdv (notepad document)

In system32/drivers:
no files with TDSS prefix.

In device manager:
TDSSserv.sys (under non-plug and play drivers; I just disabled it, but am still getting the pop-ups after restart)

Do I need to start with MBAM, or now knowing these files exist, is there another step I should take? I'd be more than happy to post a hijackthis file, but I'm not sure if it's needed.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated! :)

yeah ,run mbam now ,

So.. here's what I did.
I hold onto the windows key and pressed R, and I went to the Network adapters.
It lists:
1) 1394 Net Adapter
2) Braodcom 440x 10/100 integrated Controller
3) Intel(R) PRO/wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

and when I go to the Network Connections,
there's the red X on Local Area Connection and Wireless Network Connection.
There are no yellow ?'s or !'s.... it says 1394 Connection is Connected, Firewalled.

So.. How can I restore system restore back to a time before the spill?
thanks so much for helping, btw!

you can right click on the 1394 Net Adapter and disable it ,its a firewire device and not likely you are using it for the net!
for the red X in network connection right click on it and chose repair ,see what happens ..

if you have to do a restore back to before the spill go to START/ all programs /accessories/system tools /system restore ,pick a date just before the spill

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

i'am someone!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

good luck.you could try a system restore back to a time before the spill.also check in device manager to make sure the devices in networking are still ok,
device manager=
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.

1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

it sound like the power cord , maybe the power jack that connects to the motherboard ,you know the place where the adapter plugs into the laptop ,you will need to buy a new power cord ,or have a power jack soldered to the motherboard ,that better !
also whats a DH.
also i have a laptop that burnt the power cord tip[adapter got hot also ] and it was the power jack

How come there is not some program which overrides error-checking on DVD drives - so the motor just spins the disk and reading head just sort-of doesn't give a damn - reads RAW BINARY data - whatever it may look like - 0 or 1 - I mean - everything is divided (formatted) into some standard outlook - there are tracks and clusters and sectors etc - the reading head just sort-of rails-in on that.
And, so, the data is dumped in a single raw data file on your hard-drive.
Second step is to have a program which analyzes and recognizes stuff like End Of File marker etc. - Just cutting up that raw data file into separate files (name is not important, extension is not important - only data).

(I post the question here because I suppose someone is into these problems and knows what utilities exist thus now - and can what I described be made at all.)

way over me head Fred !
Ok ,you know what you want and seem to know how a cd/dvd is formatted , i guess you will have to learn some computer language and write you own software .I use nero and alcohol120% to do most of my burning and there are places to check off error reporting in bot !not sure if that is what you are talking about !i think not!

Hi again. I really don't want to lose my pictures stored in the hard drive so I'm too scared to reload/repair xp, but would do as a last resort. I have an external hard drive is there any way i can slave the data from my computer to this?

sorry ,the external hdd needs to be hooked to a working computer to copy files to it !

C:\WINDOWS\inf\ultra.PNF (Malware.Trace) -> No action taken.

no action taken means you didn't do it right ,scan again and make sure you click on show results and fix selected items buttons

your welcome ,there is a connection on the laptop for a regular computer monitor to hook to and see if it the LCD not working and the laptop is working , ,

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

leaving the laptop on for a day or so shouldn't hurt it un less you left it lying on the bed or something soft ,and it overheated and fried something

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

hi,i just downloaded the manual in the link in my other post ,download it and open it its a pdf file ,you will need Adobe reader to open it ,so open it and go to removing and replacing FRU ,scroll down to keyboard ,its starts on page 69 showing how to remove it,you should not have to remove the keyboards ribbon cable from the motherboard just to check the lcd cable

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Also Ive been told that theres a wire that connects the screen to the keyboard at the upper part of the keyboard and that I have to check the connection.
.

partly right, it connects to the motherboard, not the keyboard ,but you may be able[usually] to get to it by removing the keyboard.
did you download the manual in the link in my last post ,
to see if it will show how to remove it. maybe go to Lenovo web site and try and contact them for removal instructions diagram

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Does anyone know how to remove the keyboard from Lenovo 3000 N200.Im scared of taking the laptop apart because I basically dont know anything about it but my screen stoped working so Im guessing its a problem with the keyboard. So I have to remove the upper strip of the keyboard to check the wire connections.. I really need help!

i would think if you had a keyboard problem then yes you may need to take of the keyboard and check wire connection ,keyboard has little or nothing to do with screen working ,you may have a back lite or inverter problem ,and i have taking apart a couple of laptops and it aint easy !
i suggest you leave it to someone who knows what they are doing or you could be looking to fix more than a black screen !
you could try hooking laptop to a computer monitor if you have one around the house ,the FN key and f7 or f5 key the one with the 2 monitor symbol's on it !

hardware manual download here .

all i can add is ,maybe something in the bios/or jumper on motherboard to turn off on board video or the card is bad !
jumper on MB is old way of doing it , not many boards do it anymore ! even setting in bios is not use much anymore just plug in and use auto switching ,do you have access to another pci card to try any old card will do if you find one that is not sff lowprofile ,just remove the backplate and try it .

Come on people --

demanding aren't We !
do a www.google.com search for one,it may take a little research to find it yourself ! myself i don't think you will find one, retail!,sounds like something you would have to build yourself !

also look at the upper part of this page see software development maybe that would be a better place to ask you question

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

if one which one would I use! ?

cant resist! the winxp cd!
windows xp comes on one disk ,but if you own a compaq or dell or Acer computer you may have 2 recovery cds' whre you would use both ,they would be marked disk 1 disk 2 ect ect
the hardest part about installing winxp is still the same as it was with win98 ,install drivers for things like sound and video and network devices @ after winxp is installed

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

What? You really think I would post a question about something that is on the surface? I mean - do you REALLY think someone would post such question?

..

yup!i read some whoppers over the years ,as a few my self ,way back when !
ok i read the link and it seems people think it a bad batch of disk ,his is burn spots on disk he is creating , looks like you got a program burnt on a set of cheap disk, and i doubt it can be fixed

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

DVD drive won't read one of my DVD disks. It has a spot that is a bit darker and blurry. What is that? Can it be repaired?

too funny ,you are looking at the dot and asking us what it is !
first try mild [disk]soap and water ,dry it with lint free cloth and try again

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

What you do is simply remove the check from the "Welcome Screen
Logon" and "Fast user Switching" and put them back on them.

,

that will likely work ,but don't forget when you remove the check to say OK and then go and put checks back in,else it won't know you took out and put back in !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Its actually a gx280 but doesnt makea big difference.

How do i remove that battery? What does it look like?

Right now i am forced to use the onboard chipset. I cant plug in the card at all.

Do you think reinstalling restoring windows fully to factory settings will fix it? the computer needs a clean fresh install but i dont have the cds.....what can i do ? get an illegal copy of xp or something?

i think i already explained what the battery looked like .silver the size of a quarter ,
what do you mean you cant plug in the card at all. do you meant it doesn't fit into the slot or that you cant plug the vga cord from the monitor

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I just hope it doesn't erase the pictures i have stored on the computer. What is the chance of that happening?

hi ,start with taking the bios battery out for a half hr or so ,its the quarter size silver battery on the motherboard ,this will reset bios to defaults ! but i don't think you find any thing in there to disable onboard video ,it should just switch to the pci card i think but could be wrong ,i did have a 270 once but memory is bad .lol

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

first let me say I know nothing!!but i don't think onboard has anything to do with SLI, but i could be wrong !pretty sure it only works with the cards you put in pci-e slots

you could try this but remember you are doing so at your own risk/.
Repair install of Windows XP by starting your computer from the Windows XP CD
Note If Windows XP was preinstalled on your computer, you may need the installation CD to reinstall. Contact your computer manufacturer to make sure that you have the installation CD for a repair installation.

To reinstall Windows XP by starting your computer from the Windows XP CD, follow these steps:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer.
2. When you receive the "Press any key to boot from CD" message on the screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.
3. The following message on the Welcome to Setup screen will appear:
This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer: To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER. To repair a Windows XP installation by using Recovery Console, press R. To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

I have tried the CD DVD fix multiple times with no results, I have 2 drives, neither are working, in the Registry there is no upper or lower lifter entries at all.

hi, inside the tower are they both hooked to the same ribbon cable ,if so maybe the cable is bad ,or just need to be removed from the board and plugged back in

i've got a Dell Dimension 2350 that's only able to be upgraded to 1GB RAM. i heard that if i switch out the motherboard i could put in more. if this is true, how can i find out what motherboard i need.

p.s. not willing to buy new machine

contact Dell! they will love to help you buy a new board and more ram for you Dell machine .
but because you machine is older and dell cases will only axcept Dell replacement parts for the most part! you are limited to dealing with them for new stuff!
, if you buy new board you will need the motherbord, newer power supply, processor and fan and heatsinc,,ram, it may be cheaper to buy a whole new tower .

My new build will POST but then I get the blinking cursor on a black screen.
I am running an Intel E7300 on an ASUS P5Q ATX board with 4 GB of RAM and a 430 PS.
I hooked up my CDRW and it works when the computer starts and then I can't open it after about 20 seconds. So it won't read my ASUS disk.
I can get into the BIOS.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jon

hi,have you install windows yet !

I don't get this part

I hooked up my CDRW and it works when the computer starts and then I can't open it after about 20 seconds

when its open put the disk in and reboot ,make sure that the cdrw is first boot device ,in the bios , or boot sequence

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Are you using a USB or PS/2 keyboard
its a corrupt windows install i think ,most likely cause is virus/trojan .
no a new harddrive is not the answer ,why you upped the resolution on a computer already having problems baffles me!

,unplug tower , open the tower and remove all addin cards like modems and nic card ,sound if any ,if you have unboard video and a addin video card ,remove the card and use the unboard video ,

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

so you tried safe mode and it will not go into it ,right !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Ah, yea of course, get it now. Didn't realise you needed the Windows admin password to carry out a repair. ?

yeah if the administrator acct created when winxp is installed, is passworded you need it to do the repair, and you also need it to get to the admin acct in safe mode

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

!!!! when you say processor do you mean the actual cpu chip or the computer tower !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Last known good configuration setting (most recent setting that worked).
wouldn't think this one would be the likely one to try !

did you make any recent hardware changes ,did you try safe mode ,and maybe run your anti virus scan while in safe mode
