Hi, i wonder if you guys can help me.
Ive just bought a brand new computer with XP. Ive got onto the internet and ive downloaded Divx, VLC, etc. etc. basically a lot of stuff. Basically, when im watching a film on VLC, using Firefox to watch movies or on Youtube, the video lags and the audio continues. The CPU usage for that particular program also goes to ~60% and the total CPU hots 100%. Ive tried new drivers for the motherboard and graphics card, and ive cleaned the registry recently, but nothing seems to work. The computer runs off a university network but im sure this is not the reason why, as ive downloaded clips and then watched them on VLC and VLC.exe CPU rockets!
Any ideas?
Cheers!

Probably a low end video card or one built into the motherboard and sharing system ram.

The type of computer and its specifications would be helpful.

Ok.
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
RAM: 896MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Display Memory: 512.0 MB
Anything else?

does it only happen when youre streaming on the net

No, its for any movie. Its doesn't work for VLC on the computer for downloaded videos either.

go to performance monitor and set it up to monitor cpu together with RAM usage.that way you can see if the RAM is causing your CPU to go crazy

great thanks. tried that but still couldnt get it to work. took it back to the shop and the dude in there couldnt fix it so he replaced the motherboard and processor. fixed now.
Thanks!

no problem
cheers
