running XP with plenty of RAM but printing from word takes up to 3min for the printer to connect etc.
PDF and Excel seems a lot faster.
Is there a fix for this?

Jump to PostFirst up, put your 2007 CD in drive and wait till asked if you want to repair........
Try a repair and see how it goes!
Try printing from wordpad or notepad and see how fast that is.

thanks mountain man you helped me before so will try your suggestions - will putting the 2007 CD in and running it will this delete all my personal settings and take the OS back to virgin? I want to avoid that!

why would you think repairing microsoft office program ever take windows OS back to virgin

No it will just repair any bad files it finds in office.
