That repeating “character” box is the site’s verification challenge (CAPTCHA-style). When it won’t accept the characters and keeps returning, the server can’t complete the verification handshake and create a valid logged-in session. Because your Messenger shows unread mail but you can’t open messages, and your partner’s Hotmail works from the same PC, the behaviour points more at an account-level or verification failure for ’s account rather than an outright PC hardware fault.

If clearing browser data didn’t fix it, try a few checks that won’t destroy anything already on the machine: attempt sign-in from a different network (mobile data or a friend’s connection) and from a different browser or a private/incognito window; temporarily disable browser toolbars/add-ons and sign out of MSN/Passport on the machine before trying again. Booting into Safe Mode with Networking can rule out many local conflicts. Run an updated anti-malware scan and inspect the hosts file for unexpected entries that could redirect authentication. These will help distinguish “local problem” from “account flagged by Microsoft.”

If those still leave you in the loop, treat it as an account-level issue when contacting Microsoft: include the exact error text, a screenshot, the last time you successfully signed in, the OS and browser versions, your approximate IP (from the machine you tried on), and the fact Messenger shows unread mail but web access fails. That information makes it much easier for tech staff to check whether the account was locked, flagged, or caught in a server-side bug. If e-mail support is slow, escalate by phone or the official account-recovery route and keep any ticket numbers.

As recommended, clearing browser data is a sensible first move; and as warned, don’t delete the temp folder itself. If none of the above helps, document everything precisely in the support request so the Microsoft team can reproduce and fix the CAPTCHA/verification loop.

WoW, hmm. Serious problems there. It took approximately 72 hours before the Hotmail Tech Team responded to my E-mail.

So I would wait a little longer on the response, and if it's working fine from a friends computer and not yours then there may be something in your temporariy internet files. Make sure you delete them +all offline content as well. Not just your cookies. Clear your history, and try it then.

WOW 72 hours really as long as that!!!!!

The accsessing my hotmail and my partners was off the home PC cant get into mine but can his & there both hotmail accounts.

How do i go about deleting all the files on & off online??

Open Internet Explorer --> tools --> Internet Options --> delete cookies --> delete files (select the box "delete all offline content") --> clear history

Also let's empty your temp folder.

open "My Computer" --> {Tools --> folder options --> VIEW [tab] --> show hidden files and folders --> ok} --> (now you should be back at the "My computer" display screen) --> Local Disk C: --> Documents and Settings --> "Username" --> local settings --> Temp --> (Now that your inside the temp folder) --> Press "Ctrl" + "A" {this selects everything in the folder} --> Now click delete.

Wait for your computer to finish destroying all of these documents, pictures, web information, and other items.

When it's finished Empty your Recycle Bin. That should free up a fair amount of space for you too. Maybe even give your PC a little more speed. Depending on how much was deleted.
