Hi guys, thought this info would be useful. A new malware or virus named Windows Simple Protector gets auto installed in the system. It shows some fake scan results and forces you to purchase the application. When this program is running, all other programs are closed and nothing can be accessed. I encountered this problem yesterday and ran system restore and got the issue fixed. This link will provide the information. http://www.pc1news.com/news/1674/windows-simple-protector.html
This link http://www.xp-vista.com/spyware-removal/remove-windows-simple-protector has the removal methods but I found none in my registry after running system restore.

It sounds similar to the AntiVirus XP nastiness that was passing around about a year ago. Those kinds of spyware are the worst IMO.
