I am a new PHP developer, I run a LAMP server but use Win 7. For the PHP Developers out there, is it much more helpful to have a local WAMP server? I can see how it would be nice to be able to develop without uploading every four seconds to check for errors. Any suggestions as to which server to get? Thanks!

So are you asking about which version of Windows OS, or actual server hardware? For local development, any typical desktop computer you have, from an architecture perspective, is the same as a server class hardware. The main differences between the two are, of course, better quality components, redundancy such as with fans, power supplies, more dependable secondary storage, RAID arrays, etc...
