Quite often but not always when I burn a dvd (I use sonic software for this) Windows media player will not give sound, yet windows media center has no problem. I am using xp media edition.
Easy workaround I know, but why?

It could be that the speaker set up in Media Player is not correct. If it is set up for 5.1 and you only have 2 speakers, you won't hear much from the center channel.

That sounded like an obvious and informed solution, but sadly my set up is correct. stereo desk top speakers. many thanks for trying though.

Just to make sure, you are only using one computer for this correct?
