This is a Dell 400 with 128 megs of RAM running on WinPro 2000.

I went to Macromedia's site, as Shockwave Player was needed for a game my friend wants to play. When she gets there and attempts a download, it does, but hangs at one percent. Tried, retried, rebooted, but the same thing always happens no matter what I do. I went to download.com and downloaded the file from there, putting it in a file folder. I tried to install and this is the requester that comes up, "Could not initialize installation (CRC). The handle is invalid."

Does anyone have a clue as to what I can do?

Thanks,
BuddyB

Keep trying until you are successful at downloading the file without errors. If you have any Download manager software installed, disable it and allow the file to be downloaded cleanly.

Alternatively, find a recent PC magazine which includes Shockwave Player on its cover CD and install it from there ;)

Thank you; sounds like a solid approach.
