A website is most likely to be turned away by an online visitor if it takes tonnes of time for every page to load, when its color, fonts and background are not welcoming and most importantly
when visitors don't find what they are looking for
when the site is not promising

Very true. That is why it is very important to have an Information Architect and or Usability Expert to help map out the infrastructure from the user perspective and increase user experience.

Yep, page loading speed is important. I usually just close the tab for a slow loading site.

A user needs to be able to quickly scan your website and within five seconds be able to tell if it has the information or services they're looking for. This is the rule I always work by.

What turns me off the most are spelling mistakes.

First impression tells everything, for me if the design is poor and the loading is slow I’ll move to another website...
