Re: I received some complaints in the past that the font size was too small. So I figured I'd run an experiment for a couple of days and see what the reaction is. It turns out that both CNET and MSN are actually using this same larger font size for their …
Re: I use referrals but don't get much money from them at all. I will say that I do get at least a couple of signups per day with the Firefox with Google Toolbar referral. Maybe it takes some time before it registers as a conversion? I also know that they …
Re: You don't need to be manually resubmitting a sitemap either. Google automatically checks your sitemap file multiple times daily.
What do you guys think of the changes made to Google Adwords? I find the new "conversions" column very helpful, but am completely confused by that whole new on-page optimization thing they've got going on.
![]() | Re: She's baaaaaaaack :) Parsing every single post that runs through the system is just way too resource intensive - and inefficient - for a forum community. With the upgrade to vB 3.5, the default editor for new members has been set to the WYSIWYG editor (the standard and wysiwyg editor … |
Re: Swap links :) Get your site visible to spiders crawling other sites and finding yours. A big misconception is that a Google sitemap will let Google find your site and know about your pages. Simply not true! The only way to get Google to spider your site is by building …
I thought you were supposed to put a link to your sitemap in your robots.txt (isn't that what you said, stymiee?) My robots.txt now looks like the following:
Sitemap: http://www.daniweb.com/sitemap.xml User-agent: * Disallow:
Google Webmaster Tools robots.txt says "Syntax not understood" for the sitemap line.

Re: You could fill in the text field with JavaScript only if it was hard-coded somewhere what to fill it in as. If you want to pass external variables into the page, you would need to use a server-side language such as PHP.

Re: ValueClick, Burst Media, and Tribal Fusion are all CPM (cost per thousand impression) based ad networks. However, that doesn't mean that you can just slap them up on your site and start rolling in the dough. It's just as important with CPM-based programs to perform well and keep a good …

As you can see, the forums have a new time format. Now, instead of time being something like 'Today, 3:00' it says '1 Hour Ago'. The reason for the change is because I am realizing more than ever what a huge, global community we are. And by far, the majority …
Re: As you know, I've been working very hard lately trying to draw more attention to the blogs. After speaking to numerous people, I think one of the main things holding them back is the confusing navigation unique to DaniWeb, with a steep learning curve. For example, it seemed that for …

Re: Subdomains are treated as more independent I've noticed - search engines aren't as willing to switch between subdomains as they are subdirectories. Also, you can't use relative URLs with subdomains which is the biggest hinderance.
Re: The Google sandbox is just a myth which is meant to explain the phenomenon of new domains not ranking well in Google regardless of their traffic, backlinks, etc. I think. |
