There are a number of processes that can cause high % that are in fact normzal processes. eg if your disk has not been defragmented the saving nd loading of files willl using the normal process cause the processor count to go high.

There are also background normal processes that some manufacturers use to 'help' people use computers. these use norml processes but push the count up.

Have you slimmed down ALL the start up processes as some progs like Anti virus can push up the count although they should show in the task manager processes etc.
final thought ... have you cleaned out the fans particularly on the processor itself and also any cooling fins. if the processor heats up it has to work harder, the count goes up so does the fan rate and it may not be a process problem but rather an overheatng one!

This may be teaching grandmother to suck eggs...
Are the cartridges fully seated down?
Have you tried with new cartridges (that would confirm if it was a cartridge problem) as sometimes the very very small jets can get blocked and if a solution dries on them it can be very difficult to remove the blockage!
Finally some epson printers have an electronic chip in the print head that detects if everything is ok but those chips do not always send messages when the error is one it does not know. it could be that if yours has a chip like this it is the chip that is awol and that also can be checked with new cartridge!

It seems to me to bhe unlikely that ther eis an electric fault such as cables but have you done a test print page (either from the computer or better many printers have a start up routine that you can hold down a button to force it to print a test page. if that gives blanks seems cartridge problem.

agree with caperjack, but it might be possible to borrow a USB external DVD/CD drive just to do the installation. I use such a drive regularly and have also installed the OS onto the SD memory card...

I have gone from XP to win 7 32 bit and all worked reasonably well. I then took the plunge and went 64 bit and have never looked back. It is stable fast, does what I want it to do but be warned there are some difficulties with finding 64 bit drivers for some pieces of hardware and software and you will spend quite a bit of time early on updating such things as flash player, adobe, etrc etc; and certainly some programs will have to be run in 'compatability' mode. However it is a full format and installatiojn and theer is a lot of info at Microsoft website.

I think you may have to edit your 'hosts' file in windows so that when the browser tries to go to the site (that you have entered in the hosts file) it is redirected by your 'hosts' file to in fact its own machine. at the limit of my knowledge but do look up to use of the 'hosts' file. google it!

There are a number of disk partition managers and I would suggest tryinjg to boot from a 'boot' cd either linux or original windows installation disk and then do a repair on the master boot record. If that does not fix it then it looks like a re-install, but that may detect and be able to repair without loosing data. This will have to be from the original disk (or the repair partition if the machine has one).

are all the partitions actually formatted? (it might be worth reformatting those two drives)

Although windows can see the 2 & 3 hard disks does your BIOS have the right details for that type of drive?

Is your home page in IE or firefox (which ever is the defaiult) set to be the ISP website? If so change it to a site that you want or even to your own computer. That will prevent it going to the ISP website.

I like Bob's answer but would also add that I have gone through hell getting xp 32 up to win7 64. In paqssing it is worth noting that win7 64 though very good cant see 32 uinless it is installed in the proper fashion and ends up in win 7/program x86 files and not just program files on the C drive.
I am increasinglyof the view that to move totally to win 7 64 is worthwhile (and buy or use an old computer for xp if you must.
If you install XP files to the proper place win 7 64 can be forced to run in compatibility mode andthat works!

further to bobs good reply I would also suggst I have had a number of clients (mainlky with older machines ) with similiar problems of keyboards, ps2 and AVG. I solved them by junking AVG and using microsoft security essentials. Yes I know what we think about ms but this does work!

I thiink you wil have to alter the registry but I cannot remember exactly which entry. It is one that deals with the file associations but googling registry file associations or something like that will hellp.

If the program is no longer on the machine (as above) then do a search on *.cpl files and remove the file with hte name like paperport.cpl (or just to be safe rename it paperport.old) and then the control panel will not see it.

There are a number of good registry cleaners around.try www. Iobit.com.
Then remove the folder inwhich hte offending program is and then use the registry cleaner.

Tech mags did a survey about a year or more ago and found that here was very little difference if any between the good pricey anti virus and the freebies.
I have used both AVG or AVAST and both have given long and reliable anti vius (and in hte case of AVG internet security as well.

There are plentlyof free progs out there for pop ups as well. Try googling on security free software or similiar etc.

I would like to put the other side of AVG! I have used it for many years and found it to begood, both free and paid versions. However I have also had the problem of not being able to use the 'correct' licence number. I solved this by being absolutely sure that I had the right number by copying and pasting. When I typed the number in it did not work, when I pasted it did work.
I also had to redownload and then reinstall then copy and paste. I suspect that the licence input is a one shot job and also there may be hidden codes in the licence number. I have no evidence for this but at least it worked for me doing it this way....ugh but that computing...!!

iope,this helps

without tech help don't know but it sounds to me like a timing problem on hte maoin board due perhaps to overheating or some 'sticky' memory slot; Have you got a soak test type memory program that runs for a long time (12 hours or so repeatededly?)

admin password is often 'admin'... but when I am really stuck like this is use a linux bootable CD and canthen access the hard disk from that running in memory. You can download an IOS file of linux (ubuntu or Kubuntu etc) and cut a CD that then boots as a live cd. can be a great help!
