Gets the names of all the partitions in a system. Note that media must be in every removable drive for this to work (can be fixed easily)

Hmm, first post here in ages. Anyway, I'm getting a new box soon, and I'm torn between an Athlon 64 X2 6400+, or a Phenom (either 9500 or 9600). From what I've seen, the 6400+ outperforms the Phenom by miles on non-multithreaded applications (apps that don't take advantage of multiple …

Both have their advantages. KDE is the best for people who love eye-candy, because it has features like window transparency, shadows, animated things, etc. But because of all these extra features, it is very bloated, and is quite slow. Gnome, on the other hand, is more lightweight. It still has …

In the section of the Gentoo handbook about setting up the bootloader, there is an explanation on how to do this. As percent20 said, you simply point the bootloader (most likely GRUB) to the partition containing Windows.

As you may have seen on the DaniWeb homepage, Linspire is currently available for free. I took the opportunity to review it, so you can read my thoughts on it here

Hi, For desktop Linux, I would recommend Ubuntu. I use it as my primary operating system, and all my hardware worked first time, without me having to configure anything. For example, ATI drivers usually are a real challenge to install on most distros. With Ubuntu, you simply the 'xorg-driver-fglrx' and …

I am thinking of purchasing a Mac, because I am getting sick of my PC breaking down all the time. What I want to know is which Mac I should buy. I would use my Mac for emulating stuff (VPC), gaming, programming, and surfing the net. I am thinking either …

Yeah, the problem with Slack is that it uses LILO. LILO doesn't handle dual-booting that well. You should be able to install GRUB easily though.

I would recommend this guide: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_fedora_core_4 It has info on setting up everything that you require except print server. It also sets up your server to be able to run ISPConfig, a CPanel-like app.

While surfing around on Google yesterday for info on setting up a web host, I found this guide. It has info on setting up a complete server, but also makes your server capable of running ISPConfig. ISPConfig is a complete open-source CPanel-like app, that lets you configure sites for your …

It would be good if you added a Perl section in the Code snippets library. Perl is a major programming language, and I don't see why it is not there. Thanks, Alex

This is the query I use on my CMS system:
$query="SELECT * FROM news ORDER BY id DESC LIMIT 5";
ORDER BY id DESC will get the latest article first (the article with the highest id). LIMIT 5 is a useful thing - it gets only the amount of articles …

This is a great guide, fragmented_user. I would also like to recommend a LiveCD. Ubuntu URL: http://www.ubuntulinux.org Description: This is my favourite distro, which also has a LiveCD available of the distro. It is very simple to use, and most hardware works out of the box. I would recommend - …

I tried Linspire a while back, and I thought it was appaling. They are almost as bas as M$, making you pay for software, that on all other distros is free. OK, I would maybe use it if you didn't have to pay, and it was a freely downloadable system, …
