For xp press Alt+Shift and Print Screen (or prt sc) on your keepboard then a window should pop-up saying you press these keys then press yes.
It will go to high contrast, im sure its close enough to what you looking for.
To turn of press the same keys and will will go back to normal.

Abu, a long shot... when Setup was running it may not have detected correctly the power management scheme of your mb. Go into system32, rclick on HAL.DLL, choose Properties > Version tab. Highlight [lclick] Internal name... what does it list for your actual hal?
Make sure that you have the correct video card/adapter drivers.

the internal name is = halmacpi.dll

when you install win xp after few moment it show a page with repair. pass this page when a another page show with repair (2nd time) then you repair your windows.

I not use win 7. but in xp I give you a tips. if it are similar then its your luck.
1. run > gpedit.msc
2. computer configuration> administrative templates
3. double click on network > single click on Qos packet scheduler
4. double click on limit reservable band width
5. in setting window > check enable button.
6. put value in Bandwidth limit = 0

this file should reside in \windows\system32 (be sure to enable viewing system files).

If it not there copy it from the XP installation disk (expand ntprint.dl_).

I think you need to install win xp. may be win 98 doesn't recognized this hd (with more space). like win 95 only recognize a partition with not more than 2.1 gb.
