big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

yeah i have been thinking this stuff thru since tuesday when i had a really bad experience with some staff at the college i am currently attending and have decided to transfer to a school that is more student centered then research centered i currently go to NDSU and it is a college that is big on its research so i figure i will go to a different college in town that isnt so much research centered :) i will go there take a few generals and stuff so i can decide CS or CIS but prolly end up goin with the CIS but not 100% on that at the moment i need to get accepted into the new college first ;) i will let you guys know what happens

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

i was curious if anyone knew of any good banner exchange sites out there cause i have come across 2 but i dont know how good they are so any info on banner exchange sites would be good perferably ones that are free ;)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

well i have offically made up my mind i am goin to change majors and go into the CIS program

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

see thats the thing is i want to be a programmer and currently have a programming job that i got with my AS in computer programming, so say i have 2 or 3 years left of school i will end up out of college with 3 to 4 years of programming experience so really i would be up there or above anyone with a cs degree when it comes time to get a job. cause what i have noticed is most programming jobs are looking for ppl that have a BS they dont really care which degree. cause they always say or equivalent. this is just what i have noticed so i figure since i could care less about all the theories and jst want to get down with programming and stuff like that. i feel i am a pretty good programmer and have will have quite a bit of programming work experience so i wont be leaving college as an entry level job i will be more of a mid level or do you guys think not?

edit: o and i have found all the theory stuff to be really hard and havent been doing so good in the university level and now i will be taken a year off so i thought i would take the time away from school to anaylize what posistion i am in right now. thanks again :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

the school i am currently at only offers the BS in computer science but there is another university in town that overs 2 computer degrees one called computer science and computer information systems. do you think these degrees hold the same amount of wieght when trying to get a programming job. jst wondeirng cause after my year off im thinking about transfering to the other school for the cis degree what do you think?

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

i have to agree too i cant stand the computer science classes im taking i understand why they teach all the theories and stuff behiind computer but atleast make it so we can have fun learning it and stuff like that. im about ready to quit my BS degree for computer science and stick with the Associate degree i have. and since i am currently a programmer right now i jst need a few more years experience and i will have the same chance of getting the job as anyone with a BS degree out there. but i guess i really cant come up with more to say since inscissor said everything i was thinking there is no point in re saying it ;)

edit: wow i just relized how old this thread is :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

i didnt build linux forums its a guy i know who runs it. but he jst recently bought linuxforums. he did it that way with elitelinux.com and that was at 3000 members with in its first year when he merged it with linuxforums.org. and linuxforums.org the guy who owned the before never promoted it, it jst grew he was lucky it had a good domain name and ppl jst kept showing up :)
but yeah the guy who runs linuxforums now that is how he promoted the site before but now he is paying money to promote on sites like distrowatch.com and other big sites :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

the main think i do for my forum is to put the link in my sig on all the forums i use and then make sure to post alot so i have my link on alot of sites many times ;) then i have done link exchanges with many ppl and also have done some banner ads on some sites. as of now i only have one banner up but i had 2 for awhile. and thats pretty much how i am promoting my forum. google has been pretty good to me so far i get about 200 some people to come from searching at google so far this month. which isnt huge but it helps :) and if you didnt know i run programmingforums.org

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

well i am goin to throw invision into this mess as from what i have seen invision has pretty much alot of the features of vb but i do think vb probably has more features, but invision is about 2 weeks or so away from releasing 2.0 so you could always check them out. they are free unless you want support from them but there is no need as there is tons of web sites out there about invision board that can help you out. i would say you should check into invision and see what you think.
http://www.invisionboard.com/

ps i have never really messed with vb so i dont know all the features it has but i have looked at the admin panel via there webpage :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

i have heard there isnt very many good tuts online for vb.net as of yet. so if you wanted to learn vb.net your best bet is to buy a book. i will get the links to the ones ppl have recommended to me to use.

Professional Vb.NET
another vb.net book

i have heard that vb.net is a good thing to move to but i guess untill you have the .net framework stuff down you wont get the full power of it. but im not sure as i have jst started looking at vb.net myself :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

we dont do homework for you so if you have a some questions about what to do and how to do it we could maybe help out :) good luck and welcome to the forums :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

when i build my new computer (hopefully this fall, i have been saying that for almost a year now :( ) but anyway i plan on doing alot to it even tho it will be hiden inside my desk i will still mod it jst for the fun of it :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

i think all you can use is jst the code tags. i dont believe we have the vbcode tages here

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

well if it was there back then im sure there is away you can do it. i didnt relize you where talking about vba sorry. i dont know any of the extra stuff they add into vba really sorry

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

the only way i could think of doin that would be to set up an array full with the word and the number and then jst using the array to convert back and forth other then that i dont think there is a function built in to do what you want. good luck

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

im not thinking you will find universal code for what you want to do. but good luck on your search i will keep an eye open for you :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

i think its pretty cool that yahoo went up to 100MB its still no 1000MB like gmail but its still alot better then the 4MB you get with hotmail :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

dang i wish i would have seen this earlier i would love to have tryed out linspire :( well congratz on the invite :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

im seeing the ads too they seem to be working now :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

yeah same here i dont swear all that much on forums but then again swearing is becoming more and more of a part of life these days. when im talking to ppl i swear all the time its jst like a part of my vocab that gets used daily

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

yeah it is pretty hard to cover all the programming languages out there. there is jst so many of them.

i think i mite have to do some looking into delphi/pascal some and see what i can figure out on it ;)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

i have never realy looked into delphi. is it a good language for application building.

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

you dont have to worry about that cause the min your access a php script from a browser it will parse the information and all the person viewing the site could see is html. like if you go and look at a php page using any browser and then go view source code all you will see is the html output of the php program :) i hope this helps if not im not quite sure what you are looking for

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

i dont think it is possible with vb as you need to have the visual basic runtime installed on the system to run any vb program. most OS's are writen in C/C++ and ASM but im sure there are other languages that can be used but i dont think you can with visual basic :) but it would be pretty cool if you could. and if im wrong on this could someone correct me :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

yeah as said before you dont need a compiler to say, for php. all you do is name it .php file and put it in your web directory and access it with a browser and the server with parse the code and show the output. but you will need php on your system and the module compiled into apache to do this so go to php.net as said and download it so you can install it to make it work :) good luck and have fun

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

sorry about that i got busy at work. and now i dont work till thrusday. and i wont get anytime for awhile to explain everything to you so here is a good tutorial to get you started. if you have any other questions let me know and i will try to help :)
http://spreadsheets.about.com/cs/exceladvanced/a/vba1index.htm

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

well since this is goin to be ran on a network from multiple computer. i recommend mysql. it runs on either linux or windows. and works great for networked computers to access it :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

vim is the only thing to use for coding ;)
and the gimp is the only thing to use for graphics ;)
well not the only actually jst what i use. but i suck at graphics :(

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

you could use microsoft access. but i would recommend mysql :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

well i will tell you how to to get to the vba stuff when i get to work today as i dont have windows or ms office on my home computers so when i get to work i will help guide you to get to the macro stuff. :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

what do you want to know about creating macros. and are you talking VBA im guessing you are. if you need some help jst ask a specific question. im not good at giving tips but i can help for problems :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

welcome to the forum :D

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

could you post some code of what you need help with and some specifics on what you need help with. :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

well im not sure how to help your problem but for recommending a book. i always recommend O'Reilly books, they seem to have some of the best books out there for programming and computers in general O'Reilly's Website and then here is the link to there c/c++ section http://cprog.oreilly.com/
good luck on getting your problem fixed im sure someone here will beable to help out shortly :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

yeah as cscgal said you would want to set up a database and search the database with a query to do this. if you dont own access you could always use mysql i believe they have that for windows but im not 100% and access it thru that and mysql is free so if they do have a windows version it would be alot cheaper :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

well i will give them a week to get it working and if they cant im canceling my hosting account with them, and i cant get vbulletin cause i cant afford it, i believe thats what you where getting too :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

yeah thats what im thinking too. but since this is a hosting company server i had to call them up last nite and see what was goin on. and then they had to push it off to ppl that are higher up and they will email be in a few days. damn i hope they dont take to long as i want to get programmingforums back online this is starting to piss me off.
but hopefully i will get an email today or something :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

i keep getting this error at the top of my page when i go to my forum index. i jst installed it and have never gotten this error before.

Warning: set_magic_quotes_runtime, set_time_limit, version_compare, zend_version, getmyinode, getmypid, getmyuid, getmygid, getopt, getrusage, assert_options, assert, extension_loaded, dl, mysql_pconnect() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/content/b/i/g/bigk105/html/forum/index.php on line 45

i also get this error when i go to my admincp

Warning: set_magic_quotes_runtime, set_time_limit, version_compare, zend_version, getmyinode, getmypid, getmyuid, getmygid, getopt, getrusage, assert_options, assert, extension_loaded, dl, mysql_pconnect() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/content/b/i/g/bigk105/html/forum/admin.php on line 60

i cant even get into my control panel. i believe this is the same problem jst in different pages could anyone tell me what is goin on here thanks :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

it started yesterday here :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

yeah you must be ;) but kill bill 1 kicked arse. i cant wait to see 2 but i have to wait till next weekend :( so no one post any spoilers ;)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

first take alook at this thread and it should help you out
http://daniweb.com/techtalkforums/showthread.php?t=272

and if you need alittle more info come on back or do a quick little google search on ODBC Access VB6 hope this helps

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

nah it doesnt eliminate the need for forums jst for answering the same questions over and over and over. and for answering questions that could have been found really easily with a quick google search ;)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

sorry i couldnt find anything aon encrypting visual basic source code. can i ask y you wont to do this. cause once the program is turned into an exe you cant see the code anyway. so could you explain in more depth on what exactly you want thanks

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

xp can run all games you want to play on it. cause xp has an option that lets you run different software under different modes. like say win98 mode, win2k mode, win95 mode and even dos mode if i remember correctly its been awhile since i have used xp but i believe its pretty easy to do. but for xp you best to have atleast 256Mb ram perferably 512 but 256 would be fine. :) hope this helps

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

im not thinking they used basic. my guess is they used c and assembly to create windows. and maybe some c++. i couldnt find anything to prove what windows was writen in but im pretty sure it was c and assembly

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

take alook at this thread
[thread]272[/thread]

and if you still cant get it post some code and we will see what we can do to help more :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

you could do a quick search on download.com and you will find a bunch of installers that should work for you. you could double check to make sure that they will work but here is the link to the search of installers on download.com

http://download.com.com/3120-20-0.html?qt=installer&tg=dl-2001&search=+Go%2521+

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

could you possibly post the code you have so we can tell exactly what you need help with. that would make it easier to help up thanks :)

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

well im not exactly sure how to do it but i have found a tutorial that will prolly help you out alot :)

http://www.vbexplorer.com/VBExplorer/vb_feature/june2000/june2000.asp

big_k105 11 PFO Founder Team Colleague

well if im understanding what you want all you would have to do is is use the formname.show to show the other form and a me.hide to hide the current forums. so kind of like this

Private Sub cmdbutton1()
   form2.show
   me.hide
End Sub
