well im not goin to say im a huge fan of anime but i dont mind watching it once in awhile. as for the it being cartoon thing i dont see whats wrong with that i love cartoons they dont make you immature. some ppl jst need to realize that cartoons arent jst for kids anymore and actually started out for adults, cartoons are fun to watch. but im not saying anything bad about anime here so dont take this the wrong way :) i like some anime and i have a buddy who is a huge fan of anime and used to go to all sorts of cons :)
yeah and im a Visual Basic programmer so i know how that goes too :) but most of the ppl i talk to jst make fun of me but its not actually be mean or anything its jst for fun :) which i dont mind thats they way most of the guys are at linuxforums.org well my fellow mods there anyway. there are alot of ppl that are really cool and then there are those others that really jst piss you off. i have stopped argueing with alot of the ppl to its jst gets way to sickining
edit: i really like the idea of a new computer with a year of free internet :twisted:
im a huge linux advocate and i know exactly what you mean about the linux community being full of ppl who are so die hard for Linux that they hate helping ppl out and are jst play stupid cause they wont even listen to someone elses point of view about something, the thing that really pisses me off is when there is someone defending linux and they dont even have there facts straight about it. But on the other hand there are also a bunch that are really good about helping out others that are new to linux and even listen and having an educated debate about linux and other OS and even other technologies. As for me i love to help ppl out with the stuff that i know about linux (its not a heck of alot but some :) ). i havent had a professor like that yet but i havent take all that many Comp Sci classes at the University level and im sure i will run into a few like that. thats jst my own opinion about it though :)
this a point from John Kerry's webpage jst so you know he plans on supportting and funding nanotechnology :) jst wanted to point this out.
source is on this site http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/urban/ :)
Revitalize the High Technology Sector to Pave the Way for Industries of the Future. Kerry will erase the digital divide and will fight to connect every American family to …
drummerboy i dont know if you have installed knoppix yet as i jst skimmed thru most of the posts :o but as long as you keep your mind open to linux try all the distros you can till you find the one that you like best. there are so many to choose from you mite as well find one that works best for you :)
how many of these boards are free. i would like to switch my board from phpbb but i dont want to spend any money :)
i couldnt find your article or what ever. could you jst post the link to your specific article thanks :)
currently have an Associate in computer programming and im working on my B.S. degree in computer science. no certs :)
im 451 :( but i have been here for almost a year now :)
i like the way it is now i never really like the 1 hour ago type thing jst my opion
i dont get it y post that it makes no sence ?
actually for lilo to work dont you have to run the
lilo
command to make it work. this is what i have always thought and i have always had to do to make it work but maybe not but you shoudl try it jst in case :)
i think it would be pretty cool but i dont know cause i have never tryed it sorry i couldnt help but i think it would be beneficial as you could see alot more stuff on your desktop :)
i dont know but i dont think this kid shouldn't give up his site for anything less then 100,000 dollars, jst because he isnt violating any copyright laws, i wouldn't think jst cause the name sounds like microsoft doesnt mean ppl are goin to get it mixed up. everyone in there right mind knows you spell it microsoft and not mikerowesoft its jst plain stupid that microsoft is that bad about every little thing. they jst need to quit worry about all this little stuff and focus on there software they are putting out so there software doesnt start goin thru the crapper :) and maybe trying to fight off linux and the Open source community which i dont think they will be able to do. but thats not what this thread is for talking so i will end it now :)
/end rant
i had the same feelings when i read that earlier today. i cant believe it. and they only offered him 10 bucks which is also bull
i have never use or looked into phalk but if you jst want a cdrom distro that you dont have to install but jst run from the cd i would recommend knoppix its a great distro. or look into knoppixSTD if you want that hacker took kit type stuff that phalk has :) hope this helps
edit: http://www.knoppix-std.org/ this is the web site to knoppix std you should take a look at it
http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread601.html
this is a good place to look for alot of Tekmaven reasonning behind y windows in better in his mind. jst incase you haven't seen in yet )BIG"B"Affleck. jst thought i would point it out. :)
and if he had the project done once it shouldnt take that long to do it again :)
dont forget about postgreSQL as a good database. its up and coming :)
happy new year!!! plenty of time to go here im still at work it is 2:25 :)
redhat 9 will only take up maybe 1-2 gigs of space for a full install. if your second hd is completely clear and there is no partitions on it the when you pop in the cd and reboot the computer. (first make sure you bios is set to boot from the cdrom) and then the install will tell you what to do. redhat is very nOObie freindly so you shouldnt have any problems installing it. and it even will set up the partitions for you i believe all you have to do is accept them and they will be done the way redhat has said for them to be. and for a nOObie i would recommend either you try redhat9 which you have, mandrake, or suse they are the easiest to install. hope this helps :)
edit: no you will need more then 700 mb to get redhat up and running. if you do a full install which i recommend for you or when it askes in the redhat install chose the desktop install this will give you what you want. and it will take 1-2 gigs. :)
same here i love computer science. well this semester was hard but thats what happens when you transfer to a university from a 2 year college where you dont have to study very hard. but im sticking with it adn i love it. :) o and im a junior if i would pass all my class this sememster i will be a senior. ;)
http://www.kylekonline.com jst my own personal web site with a general talk forum. it is running on a slackware 9.1 w/ apache, php, and mysql :) please sign the guestbook and tell me what you think of the site thanks
i do most of the things i need to do in linux like install stuff and move files and folders and stuff like that in console but when im jst using linux for other things like surfing i use x but i voted for console. :)
i also will recommend you leave both drives connected and pop in the linux install cd and reboot and when the isntallation begins for mandrake it will reconize the openspace/linux partitions you created earlier, and will also reconize that windows is installed and when it asks where to put the boot loader(i believe mandrake comes with grub) say you want it in the MBR(master boot record) of your windows harddrive. this will make when that hd boots up to ask you what os you want to boot into. and this should work jst fine for you. hope this helps. :)
you know what is the worst computer cource. discrete math. i cant stand the class but i guess it helps out on logic and stuff like that but i havent gotten anything out of it and the instructor sucks as well. but what can you do i guess. :(
happy birthday dani! :)
since you are now 21 hope you go out and have a fun nite tonite. :twisted:
if you decide to go with linux i would recommend taking a look at winex this version of wine is ment for gaming so it works alittle faster for game play. and sorry i have never used cygwin.
hope this helps
coffee --> caffiene
with water cooling a case there is always a risk of somehow water getting all over the computer parts. but if you understand that. lc is a great way to cool down you computer if you dont want any noise. jst my opinion hope this helps
i know the difference between a hub a switch. well if its a hub she need that that is what she needs. its either way they will both work
yes the question had already been asked but it didnt seem like she saw or read it in all the debating that was goin on. so i thought i would get everything back on track. and get the help that was asked for out the the person asking the question and no i hadnt never read that thread that mentions that you to are buddies and it is the way you answer question. sorry i never caught that in the first place :rolleyes: well i wound try to help out anymore then. ok well i will stop trying to moderate as you say, any threads that have argumenting. but if this is the way you guys help i kind of think it sucks but that is my own personal opion maybe it works for other ppl jst not for me i guess. hopefully you have helped out. im guessing that you have so i appoligize. :rolleyes:
but back to the question at hand here. well if all your goin to be doing is sharing files and stuff like that then i would think a switch like feigned mentioned earlier. this should do you jst fine and there isnt much point in spending alot of money on a switch but i would prolly go with lynksys or d-link. IMHO they make some of the best stuff. :)
hope this helps
get rid of them and buy new ones ;)
cant you ppl jst come in to a thread and help someone instead of fighting over everything. its kind of getting annoying, but it is also kind of fun to read. im jst trying to get at is help before you start arguing over stuff.
bluedos82: are you planning on sharing broadband internet between the computer or is the network goin to be for file sharing purposes only? after you answer these we mite beable to help out even better :)
DAMN under a hour now thats a quick fix served up by the infamous SCSGAL
PS: SCSGAL give other people a chance to respond.:) lol:
its CSCGAL not scsgal. jst thought i would point it out to you :)
well first off did you create a boot disc for rh9? and what bootloader is it? if i remember correctly rh9 uses grub. ok now pop in the boot disc from rh9 and get into rh. once in do a locate grub.conf and then go in there and see what it looks like. post what it says. and then we should be able to help out more
area 51 --> aliens
deep sea --> diving
[rant]ok everyone we are here to help ppl not to fight with each other over every little stupid comment made by someone. i am really getting sick of reading these post when the space could have been used to help point these ppl in the right direction. i mean dont get my wrong i like to get into a debate my self but not in the middle of someones question. ask dani if she could start up a debate section one the forum and do it there the we can keep this debates and stuff out of threads that the debate really has nothing to do with. thanks for listening to my rant[/rant]
anyway back to the subject at hand here.
camelNotation: well if you just want to be a programmer i would recommend you go and see if you can find a school that offers a 2 year degree in computer programming. i currently have an Associate Degree in computer programming. and this will be able to get you a job but it will be tough to find one its gets easier with the higher degree and/or experience. so this would prolly work for you if thats is all you want.
but the if you like math and you want to learn about the theories and stuff behind the computer then the comp sci is for you
well i better get back to work so hope this helps
i think everyone has computer envy of dani :) . its jst not fair cause all i have is a laptop. :(
thats sounds really cool could you post the link to that card i would like to look into this alittle more. thanks :)
can --> soup
you sell computer science so well dani. just reading your post has made me want to stay in comp. sci. :D
in my mind Linux is the best way to go when programming c/c++
wow that is alot of computer for one person. :) i wish i had one of them besides my laptop.
just curious but when do the G5's start to ship.
linux --> stable
