Like Matt said they are only gonna be worth money if you managed to get something like wait.com or what.com not just random letters. You might make a few dollars but if you want to make hundreds or thousands you are better off looking for longer domains that might actually mean something to someone.

However, luckily for you the first one of those domains has still not been taken!!!;)

The fact that you are giving the information to people who may not want it makes it spam. It is also giving free advertisement to someone

I still can't tell whether you want to rotate an ad or a image?

If it is an image there are alot of codes on the web but this one may help you:

Put the following code where you would like the image to appear:

<script type="text/javascript" src="rand.js">

Then save the following javascript as "rand.js":

// JavaScript Document

var mess = new Array('<img src="pathtoimage.jpg" alt="IMAGE TItle" name="Name" width="276" height="181"/>','<img src="image_path.jpg" alt="Image Title" name="NAME" width="274" height="181"/>');
var max = mess.length;
var num = Math.floor((Math.random() * max));
document.writeln(mess[num]);

There are only two images here but you can use as many as you like, just seperate by comma.

Hope that helps you.

I have heard that daniweb now has a css code snippet. It is a bit of a long one as well. (i couldn't think of anything that was small that was interesting);)

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

If you like firefox why not just stick with it. However, the best thing to do is type that code into google. By taking a quick look I think it could possibly be to do with a lack of RAM access but you need to just search for the code yourself.

I never liked the GIMP so I decided I would try and beat it with photoshop ;). I managed to get a gif that is less than 6kb. Obviously perfect quality. I can tell that iamthwee is probably gonna come back with a gif that is about 2kb now.

You could also go for my png file which is slightly smaller still. They might be worth using. I would stick clear of the photo on the background, you want to make the website professional and so just look at any pro website and guess what you notice...

That is why, because it isn't in the code library.

Happygeek, you obviously do alot of blogging on daniweb wouldn't you be interested in a preview feature?

Just an idea:

Many forums stop you from posting any threads until you have say 10 posts. The only problem I can think of (it is quite a big problem) is that there is a high number of interesting support requests on a users 1st post. Like I said just an idea.

Are you sure you have gone through the full installation progress. I think your system will have rebooted twice to this point. Although forms are one of the most boring elements of any website, styling them can be a dangerous business. All too often it is forgotten that the way a form looks will impact greatly upon what the user uses it for. Change the style too drastically and the user might not recognize it as a form at all. In this tutorial you will learn how to style the text field element just enough to make it look good but without ever detracting from the fact that it has to be easily recognizable as a text field from a form.

You will require the following software before you begin:Graphics editor
Text editor
You must create your graphic first, which needs to be a shadow on a white background. Importantly, the object that the shadow is coming from must not be visible. The image should be 1*25px with a white background.

You must also create a new HTML file, within which you need a form and then a text field. Your html should look like this:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<title>Styling a text field</title>
</head>

<body>
<fieldset><legend>Text Field Effects</legend>

<form action="" method="get">
<input name="Search" type="text" value="Search" maxlength="200" />
</form>
</fieldset>

</body>
</html>

You now have to add a class to this text field, which you could do using the "selector" "input" but …

You may like to try posting this in the PHP or ASP forums because what you are doing is a bit more than just standard html. If you don't know php or asp and don't really want to learn I can suggest something like www.netvibes.com which is a superb customizable web page which you can save to your account on their website. Just take a look. Logically what you have got to do is set up a database which will have fields for each part of your page. Your wife will then submit the form and it will write her entry to the database. The server side code will then call the field and display it. Unfortunately I don't know php well enough to help you. If you keep checking back I might be able to get you a reply from a friend.

I hope this helps you a bit.

BBC Web Design Competition

The BBC launched a web design competition to redesign their frontpage for them a while back. I stumbled on it today. The reason I am posting is because I was quite suprised to see the poor designs submitted to this competition. You can see them at the link above. I wondered what you guys thought.

I also thought what would be cool is the next time one of these competitions comes up we could have a Daniweb submission. In this way I doubt it would actually be possible not to win. The only problem is the time. If anyone is interested in working in some kind of team to do this in the future under the name Daniweb (if that is alright with the queen herself).

Your thoughts please....

Cheers

In this tutorial you will learn how to create a stylish looking content box for your website. Before you start, however, you will need to have two custom patterns which should each be from a 5*5px image that just has a pencil line drawn diagonally across it. You need to create one of these with the pencil line color #000000 and one with #1b9a1b.

1) In Photoshop create a new document, sized 900*900px, and with a transparent background. You are creating a box that is so big so that you can use it for any piece of content simply by resizing it.

2) Fill the first layer in white for visibility purposes by using the Paint Bucket tool.

3) Now create a new layer and select the rounded rectangle tool. Set the radius to 60px, the color fill is not important for now. Your image should look like this:

iscb001.png

4) You need to add some layer styles to this, so right click on this layer within the layer pallet and select blending options, then add the following styles using the colors as typed on the images below: iscb002.pngiscb003.pngiscb004.pngiscb005.pngiscb006.pngiscb007.png

5) Now you have the basic look of the box itself and you could just leave it there. However, you are going to add more detail …

If the site is an actual business venture then you should try advertising in some womens magazines and possibly newspapers. You should also make some posts in other people forums (that are on your topic) with your domain in your signature.

You should keep up google adwords and try other advertising campaigns. I received an information pack from microsoft the other day about Microsoft Adcenter. You may like to research that.

Good luck

I have never used their service or any template for that matter but I have to say that all their templates are actually very similar.

You must remember to create a web page you need alot of patience and skill in certain areas you don't have to be a pro to make a good site you just need a good idea and some basic knowledge in how to create it. This forum can basically go down as your basic knowledge.

Any, didn't your company pay you to make it yourself? Those templates honestly look OK but they are all similar and the last the a business wants is to have their website confused with someone elses.
