Your details along with a link to your website is already shown with every posting courtesy of your signature. It does not need to be added within the body of the post as well, and doing so is against the rules I am afraid. Someone will probably be along to snip the URLs out of the posts soon, maybe even me :)

Hi Andrei, welcome to DaniWeb. I snipped the advertising stuff from your message rather than delete the whole thing, that way we still get to say hello and welcome! :)

Narue has been quiet of late, and we are contacting her to make sure everything is OK.

Remember, she has a baby other than DaniWeb to look after these days...

Looks like it is painting not eating. Maybe it is Decorator Smurf?

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Welcome. Advice is what DaniWeb is good at :)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

No problem. It's fine in the signature, but we try to keep own site URLs out of the postings themselves.

Welcome Justin.

Hi Adrian, welcome to DaniWeb.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Welcome. And now on to the important stuff: which Smurf is that? :)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Well you've done it. Although you did it wrong, in as much as you posted that originally as a comment in another thread in the community feedback forum. I moved it here for your convenience.

Take a look at the FAQ and in particular the Welcome Guide which will help fill in the gaps in your posting knowledge.

Oh, and welcome to DaniWeb by the way.

Hopefully this has solved the problems...

I was holidaying with my family in East Devon when the latest floods hit, having escaped from a submerged South Yorkshire village just a couple of weeks before.

Made for an interesting drive home, up the M5, past Tewkesbury. If we had headed home a day earlier we would have been stuck all night, literally, on the M5 it appears.

Oh well, am off to a remote bit of Scotland (Moray Firth area) at the end of the week. It is pretty much expected to be wet and miserable there...

I don't wanna risk losing my job just by watching a stupid video.

You know, that is one of the most sensible contributions to the entire thread so far :)

One thing I have learnt is it is not what you know, but knowing what you don't that make the difference.

Ain't that the truth!

Welcome to DaniWeb. What's the weather like down in Cornwall?

Hi x3mario, welcome to DaniWeb.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

What rankings?

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Slightly off-topic, but what the heck. About 20 years a go a colleague of mine decided to play an April Fool gag in his column in a fanzine/newsletter we both contributed to called JAM (Just Amiga Monthly) here in the UK.

His article was about a velocity sensitive keyboard. Hit the keys harder for bold, really hard for underlined, that kind of thing. Was very funny, and very well written.

So well written that some lazy idiot columnist in New Computer Express, a weekly computer newspaper that had a pretty big market share back in the day, wrote it up as his own exclusive the following week. It was really funny, reading how he had exclusively tested the keyboard and could report back that it worked really well...

Firstly all those blackgoogles use google engine to search - so basically the search results are the same than by using the real one, eh?

Yes. But if these people really cared about saving the planet, and really thought that energy consumption was the problem, then you might think the fact that they are contributing to this by running a server that isn't required might have occurred to them.

By which I mean that Google is already running its server farm, consuming power. This service, and others, are then taking the Google search and asking people to come to them instead of going straight to the source. By so doing they are factoring in an additional layer of power consumption via their own server, which is totally unnecessary as the user could have just gone straight to Google in the first place with less power consumption impact.

If you see what I mean. :)

Which leaves me with the only possible conclusion that they are really only in it for the advertising dollar and nothing more...

Please use professional English here, not this text message shorthand which, frankly, nobody is going to bother to take the time to try and decipher.

See the rules, especially the one relating to 'Keep it Clean' regarding this issue.

Thanks.

BTW, welcome to DaniWeb, even after all that! :)

This is just another one of those 'Black Google uses less display energy' scams - which actually earns the site operators a nice little bit of advertising revenue in the process of using additional power by piggy-backing an extra server into the Google search equation.

Avoid it. That would be my advice. Just use Google or your usual search engine of choice and the planet will die no more quickly.

Yep, the antispam measures have certainly kicked most of the bots to the kerb and we are just left with living scumbags to deal with :)

Thanks to the eagle eyes and community spirit of the membership here, most spam gets flagged up pretty quickly using the reporting system and a mod or admin kills it shortly after, any time of the day or night.

Because we have mods/admins around the globe, multiple timezones are covered which makes this task easier.

But it does still take a lot of work and man-hours from a dedicated team to keep DaniWeb forums and blogs as clear of spam as they are.

What he said.

With the additional advice to double check your spelling before hitting the send/print key. In your original posting, for example, the title says 'Recent gradute' which would immediately send a red flag flying if I was looking at that with a view to finding someone to employ.

I think 'getting used to it' is the thing, but I agree with you that the new interface appears clumsy in many aspects.

Of course, this could be a case of the devil you know, but even if that were true it does seem a tad silly to totally alienate a huge base of XP users who will upgrade to Vista and be totally lost in an interface that has changed so much.

Of course (part two) there is always the argument that if Microsoft had not changed it so much in terms of look and feel, then users would feel even more cheated than they already do at the upgrade cost...

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

My advice would be not to get caught up on the worrying about rep road then. If you are here to learn, to hang out in the lounge, to be a part of the community but not to be solving problems etc, then that is great and you really are most welcome here. But under such circumstances reputation does not really enter your radar. It is provided as an at a glance measure of how much kudos a member carries when it comes to helping others, providing that tech support.

Plain and simple. :)
