We don't create new forums until the demand is proven - which means anyone suggesting such a thing needs to go and dig out a volume of recent threads to show us which support the claim that the forum is required in the first place.

At least it proves that Dani does still listen to what members of the community say...

Sorry, but no we cannot. DaniWeb does not work like that and nor does the Internet work like that - there is no erase button for online consversations.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

I refer you to the DaniWeb acceptable use policy:

"DaniWeb takes Internet privacy very seriously. However, please note that this is a public site where all threads, posts, news stories, code snippets, tutorials, etc. with the exception of those in the Staff forums, are available to everyone (guests and members alike)."

DaniWeb does have a proper office you know :)

Address can be found by clicking the Contact Us link at the bottom of every page.

Donating brings additional benefits over and above normal membership of the site, such as an advert free experience for example. More accurately it should be thought of as a subscription rather than a donation I guess.

Perhaps there is room for a method to allow people to donate on a one off basis, by way of saying thanks for the help, which does not bring the benefits that a subscriber gets?

The UAC default is all wrong in Windows 7, much safer to allow nothing even if it does add more hassle for the user. That said, the Sophos testing was rather misleading I think. I wrote about it here and my conclusion was that I'd like to see the same test on a Windows 7 machine running some AV, which would surely be more valid - especially as the viruses that were thrown at the machine in the labs were brand new samples fresh into the lab. I'd like to see how other versions of Windows dealt with them, I would suspect exactly the same to be fair.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Sorry, jbennet is correct.

I also suggest that you reference the work in your report and cite any code which was given to you.

You asked for help, got help and now that help is available for others who might have a similar problem. That's how DaniWeb works.

If we made deleted your code, we would have to then do the same for anyone else who asked and huge gaps would appear in our support messagebase.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

I think AD is probably right, was guilty of some double posts myself yesterday as a result.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Yep, yesterday was so slow I hade to give up in the end - but all is well again now, zipping along quite smoothly here :)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Have not tried it yet, but would use of an underscore work? So Windows 7 becomes Windows_7

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Yep, welcome back! :)

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

The posts in question were deleted after being flagged as bad by other DaniWeb members. Upon investigation it turned out that not only did they have no bearing upon the thread/topic/forum in which they were posted but they also expressed a general hatred of Turkish people.

DaniWeb is a global community, where members of all races and nationalities are welcome. We do not tolerate postings which might cause offence to members based upon race, sex or religion.

Now I am sorry that some people seem to think that such postings are OK and should not be deleted, but our community would be a very unhappy place indeed if everyone was able to post messages of hatred and intolerance with impunity.

As far as I am aware there have been no problems with Digest mailings, another is due to go out today so maybe anyone who has not got this tomorrow could post here and let us know?

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

If we did not give a damn then we would not be looking at individual cases of signature abuse - and we would not have deleted some 100+ posts by Jen0608.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

This is something that DaniWeb management has been discussing of late, however there are no plans to ban signature links.

If a post breaks the rules it will be dealt with.

If a poster is thought to be bending the rules relentlessly in order to advertise in the way being suggested, then it will be looked at on a case-by-case basis.

there are 4,267 IT professionals currently interacting right now!

Later down the page, the truth is revealed.
Currently Active Users: 4434 (57 members and 4377 guests)

So there were actually 167 more people interacting than the user was expecting. Result!

No, everyone deserves a second chance.

That said, his second chance posting was also in this thread, and also still asking for his homework to be done.

:-(

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

A whole host of things crop up here:

1 - read the rules before posting, after which you might have discovered you need to
2 - post in the appropriate forum (this one is for saying hello only) and
3 - not expect people to answer your homework assignments for you when all you have done is copy the question, showing no work of your own

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

The spammer has been banned, his postings all deleted.

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

This is not the forum to be asking for help, it's just for saying hello. You need to post in the appropriate support forum, but that could be pretty much any of the software development or possibly some of the web development ones.

Think about what it is you need help with, explore the forum categories - especially Software Development, and ask in the one that relates to the language you need help with.

I just found out that my wife has been using this site but she says she isnt. Can anyone tell me what use she could be making of it that she needs to keep it from me. (please only serious replies)

Nope, but I can tell you that you really should trust your wife a bit more, and be a lot less paranoid or the relationship is likely to take a nose-dive. Especially if your wife is using this site as she will be able to see you are asking these questions about her if she reads this forum...

We are working our way through the blogs and notifying anyone with entries which are not IT news, reviews or editorial that they will need to be moved or will be deleted.
