Mainly http is a command that sends your url to the web server. https is more secure than http. Actually you do not need to know all this except that https is better.

Yeah, i agree with benmar. Contact the admin someone may have changed somethings thus your customers can't access it. Is the website secure, if not other parties can hack inside and change it.
