I’ve been exploring how packaging design connects with online marketing success. Unique and well-branded packaging often encourages customers to share photos, boosting a brand’s visibility and engagement online.

In my work at a custom packaging company, I’ve seen how thoughtful design can turn a product into a marketing asset. What’s your opinion — can packaging be considered part of a digital marketing strategy?

I see two trains of thought on packaging.

  1. Cost reduction to the maximum.
  2. Brand and maybe trying to escalate the appearance of higher quality.

Recently some products have been arriving in packaging that looks like it came straight off the production floor. I'm fine with that because it's cost effective.

On top of that, it helps to mitigate the US TARIFF WAR. Why get hit with 10 to 145% tariff on your packaging? Cut that cost out and save on your tariff bills.

I didn't buy the packaging. I bought the product or service.

I'm confused what you mean by packaging design and digital marketing. I would presume that if I'm marketing a product or service that is exclusively online, there is no physical packaging??

Now let's talk about non-online packaging. On one hand, packaging is super important when browsing store shelves. On the other hand, packaging is less important for products delivered from Amazon. In the case of the latter, the product's physical packaging did not contribute to the consumer's purchase decision. However, it might influence if I think the product is high quality or a made-in-China copycat based on the packaging.

I think packaging is more important with tech products. Look at Apple. They put a lot of engineering work into nailing the unboxing experience.
