Hello.
To whom it may concern:
I,m Jim and new to this forum. I'm having a prolem with my sound. When I play a CD or listen to the radio I can barely hear through the speakers. All my volumes are up, no mute is on and I have my speakers plugged into the correct jack. Any ideas on how to fix this problem. I'm using XP and Media Player.
Thanks Jim

Assuming your speakers are not faulty. Try this.

Go into:

Control panel > sounds and audio devices > volume >device volume >click the advanced tab > then drag all the presets to maximum volume.

Then do the same with speaker volume and the audio tab?

Make sure that your Primary speaker is connected to the Color Green Jack in the back of your computer. If you have a 5.1 setup make sure your speakers is connected to the FRONT output.
You are probably hearing the rear volumes and your speaker jack is connected to it. Thats one cause.
