DSL slower than dialup... dialup slower than DSL slower than dialup!

Guys once again I think I have contracted either a virus or tanted program. Today my DSL (sbc) started running very slowly, I rebooted, system restored, ran all virus programs, and even tried different cables with no luck. Called their tech, he pinged, I pinged, he checked for known problems and again no luck. So before I go check another home's DSL line or even worse reformat my C:/ drive "GASP" I thought I'd let one of you studs have a look see. Oh and I tried my dial up access and like the title says it was slower than slow too.

I am not sure of the Network cards you have installed, or the DSL carrier & speed limits.

Also, I am not sure the amount of memory you have installed but you have a lot of resident programs that are not critical to load into memory, for proper Windows stability of DSL requirements.

They are usually installed by default by the application, and you may not even are aware of or utilizing these resident load programs; they can be easily be called upon via a manual process: They are memory hogs, and can potentially slow down or interfere with some DSL configurations:

I am also not familiar with your boot-setup; they seem to be geared for a laptop:

You may want to revisit these Windows start-up programs and determine the ones that you really need, or are actually using, and the ones you can manually call for their functionality:

Also these antivirus & spyware programs are memory hogs, you may want to look at NOD32, an excellent virus / spyware resident program, and run other spyware on a periodic basis:

Based on your DSL carriers and speed limits you may want to look at the registry entries in the following keys:

They may have been re-set during by the Internet Explorer 7 beta installation; I quickly removed it from my system due to incompatibility: I use FireFox instead.

Try removing some of the boot applications you really don’t need.

Try these two DSL speed sites with FireFox & IE7 to see if you have an issue with the beta version:

If they are not within 90% of you provider upload/download speed the problem may reside in registry keys modified or deleted.

I had a similar problem with my primary TCP/IP keys modified by some rouge program.

Some entries were deleted and others were missing: My DSL speed dropped to half.

I would also recommend cFosSpeed 3.01 DSL traffic shaping program; is extremely excellent as to how it manages you internet application, without having any impact on your rated DSL Speed.
