i have XP Home, and when i tried to restore my computer from a past date, it wouldn't allow me. i don't know why and would appreciate any help

Have you got restore enabled on your drives? Right click 'My Computer', and choose 'Properties'. Check on the 'System Restore' tab to make sure you have it enabled.
