I tried, for curiosity's sake, a much advertized "optimizer" which "even a novice can use safely", etc. Well, the cursed program, instead of speeding up my PC, damaged it seriously! I was lucky to have backups of my hard drives, so I lost only (?) time and became extremely grumpy. I would like to warn everybody using XP Pro: beware, do not install those "magic bullets"! If need arises, i.e. my computer starts to slow down, I use a reliable German disk defragmenter and a French tune-up program. No regrets after using them! I have nothing against American software, but the companies tend to become carried away in the hot competition environment. Not so in Europe, so far.
