The network setup I'm trying to accomplish is simple enough, there's just something blocking the whole going from Phase 1: Setup to Phase 3: Use Internet.

I've been tinkering with the network for a while now.

The network consists of a Dell Inspiron Laptop and Alienware Aurora 5500. The connection is set up to work through a router which is connected to the D-Link ADSL modem.

I am able to access the modem's properties page from the Laptop. If I have the modem configured to "Bridge" (Wherein I must manually log the computers on to the internet each time they start up) then both computers work fine with one irritating exception:

When both computers are connected, they will both occasionally drop out, even though the net is broadband. I theorise that has something to do with my ISP not being able to handle two computers trying to initiate and maintain connections at the same time when there should only be one.

Anyway!

When I switch the modem over to PPP (Wherein all PC's connected to the network wouldn't need to be manually connected each time they start up.) I am able to browse the net comfrotably from the laptop (AsI am doing right now) but the Aurora has a massive complaint about something or rather and will no longer allow me to access the internet from it.

I have ensured that DHCP is enabled, settings on the Aurora allow automatic IP and DNS acquisition.

The machine will not respond to ping, however.

Just another note I picked up on now, the Modem's properties page lists this as the Gateway:

172.18.113.97

While the Aurora's automaticly acquired IP address is:

169.254.100.203

If anyone has any idea how to fix this up so that the Aurora can also browse the internet without having to connect manually and screw around with modem properties, I'd be most grateful!

Just adding on, the operaing systems of both PC's is Windows XP Home, the Modem is a D-Link DSL 302-G and the router is a Netcomm.

Thanks!

Oh and P.S.
