Almost two months ago, I submitted a Google sitemap where I gave the forum display pages more weight than the thread pages. I was hoping that this would get Google to get more people coming into those index pages instead of individual threads, and perhaps then they'd spend more time on the site before moving on. The result, however, was that my traffic from Google decreased by 50% and I'm trying to figure out whether it is because of the sitemap or not. I've redone my sitemap last week giving the threads (the content pages, which Google probably thrives on more) a higher priority, so we'll see if it changes things.

When you assign a priority to URLs with Google sitemap, do you give the higher priority to your actual content pages (articles, etc) or to your sitemaps / navigation pages, which contain links to all of the articles?

If it's an email detailing the second post, then that is with vBulletin. If the email just comes late, that could be my server. How do the sent and received timestamps compare?

The problem, unfortunately, is I have no idea why this is, and don't even know where to start looking to debug. The email settings for my server are correct, emails seem to be getting through everyday ... perhaps you have visited the forum since the thread was replied to, and so a notification isn't necessary?

Google has always provided the best results for me over any other engine. I'm a frequent Google toolbar user as well, so I don't even remember the last time I typed the URL of a search engine into my address bar.

Firstly, welcome back Stack Overflow! You have definitely been missed. It's actually funny that you bring up eFax now. I just recently got a multifunction printer, and while it works fine sending and receiving to regular fax machines, it is incredibly temperamental interacting with eFax. I've been trying to get it to work with eFax for the past two days.

It's the only place where regular members are free to strike up a communication with the Mods and Admins. It's one of the few places where the Community Spirit truly shows.

IRC isn't that old school when it's all integrated into DaniWeb :) Our chat page shows which members are logged in, you can visit a member's profile to see what channels they are op in, what channels they're logged into, etc.

I'm feeling a bit pathetic right now that I'm the only one who referred to DaniWeb as a "she" ... but I meant it in the "captain and her ship" type of way.

You only need one super administrator (as defined in config.php). The job of the super administrator is to be able to add other administrators and set their permissions, which you can do from within the admin control panel. Just select the user you want and move them into the Administrators usergroup. Then, from within the admin control panel, click on Administrator Permissions to define what portions of the admin control panel they should have access to.

I am with you on that one. For a year we were being told "We're having a problem indexing you" and when we finally were in and working, two days later they decided our content was apparently not up to par.
