thats just hardware detection, all hardware will show up there does not mean its working properly. try load the drive by itself ( set the jumper to master) if the pc boots and tell you cannot find ntdlr then the drive is good. did you get a cd with the drive, boot from the cd and set up the the drive. THE drive has to be formated for the operating system to see it.

I see that you have the same post and Jbennet suggest you use computer management, if the drive show up there you can format it

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

the reason for this is that windows cannot recognized the HDD basically the file system on the HDD is corrupt and windows cannot decide what type it is,........... AGAIN are you certain that the drive is jumpered properly.

You might have to format the drive for windows to see it

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

again what file system is on the HDD you are trying to look at

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

start the pc in safe mode let us know if you can see the drive

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

what file system is on the HDD and what opearting system are you running on your PC

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

check the jumper setting on the drive, one should be master the other master with slave or both should be set to cable select and put the master drive at the end of the cable and the slave on the second channel

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

is this server configured as a domain and the user added to AD

itdupuis commented: thanks for posting so quickly!! +1
bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

how are you adding the user, through AD or just by adding the printer on the user computer. give us some more detail

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

maybe the cd will cost you about 30 bucks plus shipping or free with shipping. but so you know the cd will not restore any thing but your operating system ( windows) and maybe some oem programs

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

i am going to assume that the computer is not starting, Correct??????

if it is create a new restore point, if not get the cd from the pc manufacturer, usually cheaper than taking the pc to the shop

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Here is what you do, get the keys from the present installation you have runnig not, Use this program

it will find the key for you present Windows XP, these keys would have already been registered with windows, so you can use the one cd to install on many PC with diifferent cd key.

Because according to Microsoft, one cd comes with 1 key, and you would nt be able to use the same key on different machine, in reality you can but you would nto be able to activate and get updates. therefore the procedure above will able you to get the key for each machine you have windows on now. save the keys and use with the retail full copy you buy.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

if you have any firewall turn them off and try loading the page again, as for the download you should get a yellow bar at the top of the browser below the toolbars and icons. click on it and choose download file. if that does not work use a download manager to get firefox and or opera. then try the web pages, if they open in firefox or opera i suggest you do a reinstall on IE7

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

if you are going tp purchase Xp PRO get the full version, you can do upgrades or full install with it, more over the cd is bootable and upgrade cd can only be run from within an operating system.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

outlook saved all contact, email and email address in one file with the extentions .PST all you have to do is find that file on the old HDD save it to the new up and running HDD, then open out look and import the pst file, you will get back all the emails and contact that you had prior to the system crashing.

i purchased norton ghost 10 a couple of days ago. The softwares workin fine but accidently i broke the installation cd that had the recovery environment.

Is there any way to create a duplicate cd of the same.

Plz help me out.

Regards
Bharat Shivram

you can run the program and create a set of restore disk ( they will only allow you to boot the PC to a DOS environment) if the actual Installation Cd was broken you have to get a replacement

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

do a search for the file, if is shows up in another directory other than what you are tying to delete delete the other first, look if it is runnig as a process/service. stop it and try to delete disable User access control on the pc then try to deleted

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

you would have to go to the dell web site to get the drivers for the touch pad. there is no configuration for it in windows. only when the drivers are installed

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

you can still buy a vista if you have a bootable XP cd you can dual boot the pc,

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

SP1 is still in beta, SP2 will not come out for another 18 months atleast

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

is this drive on the correct channel, is it detected in the bios, if the above is correct them i assume the drive head/mbr is damage

Hi guys, I'm having a strange problem with my SATA drive and I am totally at a loss at what to do. 2 days ago I had been using 2 hard drives, 1 80GB IDE Seagate hd with Windows XP and my games & programs on it, the other was a SATA 160 GB Seagate which has my mp3s and videos etc on it. I had had that setup for about 2 years with no problems until yesterday, my 80GB IDE hard drive became corrupted, I don't know how either. But after spending a few hours trying to get it to work, I went and bought a new 160GB IDE Seagate hard drive which was to just be for the OS, programs & games.
I installed XP on it but my SATA drive isn't showing up in Windows. I'm using a Gigabyte 7N 400 Pro2 mobo and I installed the Sil3112 SATA driver off the CD that came with the mobo but to no avail. I have 60GB of data on my SATA drive that hasn't been backed up yet (yeah, I know, stupid of me), and I want it back. Any ideas on how to get XP to see my SATA drive?

Thanks,
Alex.

base on whats in red how can you install windows on the drive and it's not showing up.

i have 2 problems..one with a desktop alienware aurora, i tried to full reinstall windows xp, once i enter the set up screen and press enter to begin installation, i get an error saying windows does not detect a harddrive, though bios detects it, aswell as the p.o.s.t..im assuming its missing drivers am i right? its a sata harddrive and a nforce motherboard , i really have no idea where to get these drivers , if my assumptions are correct,

the second problem is with another alienware system, my laptop, once i boot , and the system conduc the P.o.s.t, after it says " bios not installed"..then operating system not found". can it be the motherboard? the ide cable? or the harddrive, i doubt its the harddrive, i tried 3 different harddrive all preloaded with windows xp..still the same problem, so im down to motherboard or ide cable? or maybe someone else i dont know about , but you do, so if you have any info, any advice on either problem, i would really appreciate it , thank you in advance

on the first issue is this a raid setup? if not you would not need driver for the HDD, use the cd/floppy that came with the HDD and set it up for use with an operating system. if the bios detech it and the operating system does not, chances are the drive head/MBR is damage. the cd that came with the drive have a utility to reset the drive …

what is the color depth of the video card right now. if you cannot change it you need to update the drivers. as for the video in windows media player you can change the brightness and colors within the player. click view choose enhancement>show enhancement, then scroll through the different one until you get to video settings

ok, can you remove the table or edit the code the student put in the cell, i know you state that you would like to know how the error was created but you already have the answer. they enter VB codes in a table, probably link to some other cell. the code will run, but it will be pointing to the same cell the code is written in. hence the circular reference.

remeber in excell one cell can take ALOT of data, so a vb code in a table would be the same thing.

The boot.ini file for the setup says:

[Boot Loader]
Timeout=5
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup"

delete whats in red

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

right click on the my computer icon, choose properties, advance tad, under startup and rescovery click settings, then you can edit the boot.ini. from there

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

if it boots up ok you can edit the boot INI file to remove the deal link xp has a check that can be run on the boot file

but do u get to the desk top? and able to work on the pC

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

LOL @ midi

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

here is a question to you do u have another computer available to you?

the reason for this question is that you can try the power supply inanother computer and i can BET my pay check for the month of december it will work.

The machine fingerprint is nowhere to be found on the PC. if you are installing a scansoft program thats asking for one you either have a hack software or the software is bad. the software should generate this fingerprint base on certain hardware parameters. Such as CPU, Moboard and operating system installed. then when you are pass that screen it will tell you the fingerprint and probable the option to print or save the file.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

u have to find all traces of quicktime and delete it. ensure to clean up temp files too

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

if u set a min /max and it grows even without any new processes or software running. u must have a trojan /virus.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

increase to 1G at least,,,,,,,,,,,,are u running VMware on this PC.....

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

the comit charger is the max the system will set asside for the page file, notice it says pagefile/commit charge you need to go into the systems properties>advance tab> performance settings button>advance and set the min and max for the page file.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

there is your problem, the commit charge is set to 200+ yet you have a pagefile 700 +. increase the commit charge to something like 1.5g/3g.

PS is the page file on the same hdd as the operating system.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

did u set the charge to let windows manage , both visual effect and pagefile , how big is the hdd.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

you would ahev to use a back up software for that. you would config it to do 2 seperate backup. for example do one back up at 4Pm on HDD D:\ (Folder name) and the next back up at 10PM on C:\(folder name).

PS you don't need to create 2 back up of the same thing in different place.

Personally i save every thing on my slave hdd, in the event i crash and have to do a clean install. the slave will be safe and have all my backed/saved data files.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

find the directory that quick time is installed on, delete it, then try installing a genuine download of the program. Make sure you are logged on as an administrator.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

dont if u choose advance installation you should be able to point your programs to install in the directory you specify...... however, never create a program files directory, this will result in errors on your pc, and best practise is to have all programs install on the c drive, then you can configure the program to save any data on another drive. Some programs by default will not allow you to change settings.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

when windows run an update if it does not see the txt log it will do the update again, noting that will affect your pc operation. it should also be on the master drive on the slave u can definately delete it.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

on your h drive, which i assuned is the slave.???? right the easiest way is like you said file new folder or u can creat from a DOS prompt. or from within a program. the directory with the loong number text is from runnig certain updates from microsoft. it can be deleted. the only purpose of it is to creat a log/time stramp of the opdate that was run. some time windows will not allow you to delete it. but if u can it will cause not adverse effect on your PC.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

accordint to this its pointing to the wrong directory, do a search for the pst file then copy it back to the outlook directory, you can find the correct directory by going to control panel>mail and look at the default mail directory

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

anti spam and adware are two different things. run the spybot

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

if u are getting a soft 32 message and a prompt to scan to fix the proble i suspect you do have a trojan. get help NOW

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

if want user to to be able to save file you should create directories for each user and give access then create limits on them ( so they dont eat up the hdd)

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

u can use a program name ophcrack
download here
http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/ then burn to a cd, set computer to boot from cd drive it will do the rest and reveil the password for all accouns on the pc

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

what is the purpose of this HJT list, we are great here but not mind readers what whats heppening y u had to post a HJT list.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

yeah u can wipe the hdd if u have a bootable xp cd, there are utility that u can use to get the account passwords but u would need internet to get them.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

here is my question to this ongoing saga. if u dont have a win xp cd when u format you hdd what are u going to put on it? u cannot format a hdd unless u put some type of media in aither the cd drive or the floppy. do u have any other windows cd?
