It takes about a second to go off after you turn it on, so I couldn't say whether or not it had passed bios at that stage. Probably not.
Looks like a shut up and put up job to me ;-)

I was looking at the orangey gold in your logo.
You could use the adobe style buttons with an orangey gold tick, I think that would work. Or make the button in that color and have white text on top.
Have a good Christmas!
Dave
It's a packard bell iGo 2000/4000
I do have all the serial numbers if they're any use to you.
How about a 3d buy now button in the brown or orange of your site? Have white text on top of it.
Alternately stick with the flat style buttons you have elsewhere in the site, but in orange or brown again.
Is your 'no red for buying' thing based on the 'red' 'danger' association?
Are you sure the power adapter polarity is correct for the laptop.
Well it's the same power adaptor as has always been used with it, so it should be fine shouldn't it?
The power socket is in pristine condition.
I did look at selling the parts on ebay but they're mostly worth about £5 by the looks of it.
I've pulled the whole thing to pieces and the power board was separate to the motherboard. The sparks only occur when the power board is connected to the motherboard, so either the motherboard is dead or the power board only faults when the motherboard is present.
I've been quoted £200 for a new motherboard, and I can't find any on ebay, so it looks like this is about to go in the bin...
I have a toshiba laptop s2800-200 (naturally the model doesn't exist on toshiba's website)
Whenever I plug in the mains adaptor the screen backlight goes off.
If it's running on battery it's fine.
Is this a software setting or a failed item of hardware?
In this case I don't think that will work, and there doesn't appear to be a webbot command for it.
You could try the job opportunities forum.
it was after I tried the original suggestion that it started sparking visibly.
I couldn't find a reset switch on it though, but I'll look again.
Since the psu appears to be giving a normal output that probably means it's a motherboard problem?
Well when I plugged the power adaptor plug into the laptop motherboard, it came from that join.
Power adaptor appears to be giving out the proper voltage on a multimeter.
So is that the motherboard failing?
is the little card running sideways from the processor but above the main board part of motherboard??
it's now started sparking when you insert the plug...
The guy said that it was working, but recently he tried it and nothing happened, so he sent it round to me.
I have been given a laptop, which does absolutely nothing at all - no lights on it, no fans, nothing.
The delta power adaptor has a green light on it.
As soon as it is connected to the laptop, it goes pale and starts blinking.
The power supply gives a steady 19.4V as per spec.
The laptop is an old packard bell of unknown origin, but it's running windows XP (from the sticker underneath) so it can't be too old.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking a motherboard short?
I've never used yahoo mail service so I don't know if it uses ajax.
If the project is to build a dating site then the course would normally be based in the language you are going to use, whether it's php/mysql, asp/mssql or whatever. The course wouldn't normally send you off to learn a new technology on your own...
Could be wrong of course.
I vote for option 2.
I normally handle my forms with php, so frontpage forms is a new experience for me too.

Dave
You could try a google search - I'm in Uni so I don't really want to be flicking through those sorts of pages...
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=free+dating+website+template&meta=
Ah I see - your form isn't set up to appear from the email that sent it?
In that case try modifying your frontpage submission code to look like
S-Email-Format="TEXT/PRE" S-Email-Address="YourEmailAddressHere@somewhere.com"
B-Email-Label-Fields="TRUE" B-Email-ReplyTo-From-Field="TRUE" S-Email-ReplyTo="Email" B-Email-Subject-From-Field="TRUE" S-Email-Subject="subject"
That in theory should take the value of your 'Email' field, and set it as the 'reply to' address.
For further information visit:
http://www.prowebsites.net/frontpagehelp/Discussion_Email.asp
The aim of that tutorial isn't quite the same, but I think the code is the same.
The code above also sets the subject line, so you might want to ditch that part.
After that you should be able to use the outlook rule I mentioned.
Use the 'have server reply' rule, and leave the to field blank.
That works for me in Outlook 2003
The other alternative is an 'autoresponder' set up via your hosting control panel.
You would use a template...
preferably you'd use php or ssi to include the duplicated sections of your html page.
Does that make any sense?
2 options:
1) size your image using percentages.
2) set a div as your top header. put one image in and float it to the left. then put another image in that will sit on the right, using text-align right.
You can also assign your image as a css background, and make it so that the bit that falls off the right is optional...
We really need to see your header to suggest specific strategies.
The other solution is some thumbnail creation software like easythumb
http://www.toniarts.com/ethumbe.htm
You can get it from tucows if you don't want to become a member at that site...
http://www.tucows.com/preview/324214
However when I used it, it used to absolutely reference the files. Hopefully that's been fixed by now.
There are loads of server side solutions

No worries - the embed/src stuff is the worst part of web design if you ask me.
Can you post a new log please? We need to know what it removed and what it left behind... ;)
LOL
as if
You appear to have the following:
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=WORM_SDBOT.BHF&VSect=T
You might be able to remove it by running
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Or by downloading the latest pattern file
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/viruspattern.asp
and the sysclean package from this page:
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp
Unzip them into the same folder on your hard drive, then run them.
Failing that, post back and someone will write up some manual instructions for you.

You may need to check you have the correct ports etc open, as in that thread. Also check content expiration etc.
Webnauts! Fancy seeing you here!
Just when I thought I had this place to myself... :D
Panda: died on me the other day, so I ditched it. They keep reactivating the built in firewall and stuff like that, so it doesn't run smoothly alongside Zonealarm - at least, not for me. It appears to have kept the pc fairly clean while it was installed, but it slowed the pc down by a vast amount - uninstalling it halved the boot time from 2-3 minutes back down to 1.
AVG: Runs happily with ZoneAlarm, and appears to be doing ok, but it has a few annoying habits:
- the installer for the virgin digital player is detected as a trojan and deleted. I don't think it can be infected since it came from the virgin site, and panda never picked it up, but... I don't know.
- Installed it the other day on a system infected with a worm that affects HTML pages & it deleted them all, instead of cleaning the infected lines of code.
So, no reccomendations, but some information as to my experiences with them... Might be of use to you, might not.
Sure: head over to http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon/ and create your icon, then follow the instructions. If you already have your .ico file, then just create one and use your original file when you follow the instructions.
Web design can be done with tools which are free. If you want to become a good web designer then purchasing Macromedia tools will not necessarily make you one.
Dreamweaver for instance is simply a program which generates html code. HTML code is easy to learn and can be written quickly and very efficiently by hand. See my website for an example - www.emdevelopments.co.uk - this was written using html-kit from www.chami.com - a free program. If you view the source on it then you'll see it's almost plain english.
Graphics programs are harder to find for free, but www.gimp.org offers a quite good one. Or you could pay something like £100 for Paint Shop Pro - a full image editor, free trial from jasc.com, though it's now taken over by Corel, so the address may have changed.
Flash file creation can't be done for free, but for a small fee www.koolmoves.com (free trial again) can be used - it's easier to use and a lot cheaper.
Swish is another popular flash authoring tool. Many people find flash overly complicated and difficult to learn e.g. motion tweens and layering can be very frustrating.
I'd suggest you try the free demos, and decide how much return you're likely to get on your investment - if you're not likely to get many customers (at least at first) then it might be worth doing the work using free …
What stops them browsing your files locally before reformatting? That way it never sends a signal to it's control center, and as I see it you waste your subscription...
The whole system seems to me to be based on the flawed asumption that the first thing a thief will do is connect to the internet...
Or is there something I've missed in the description?
I think what software they use is important
At the end of the day their ability with that software is far more important than the software itself. The decision has to rely on the visible skills and natural talent they have with the tools. After all, it doesn't matter if your door locks were fitted with a chisel or a router, but the skills of the person using it will affect how well it works for you.
(unless you set a full system bios password :D ).
Which they would then remove using either one of the freely available freeware tools, resetting the cmos, or by removing the cmos battery...
Which in it's turn would probably prevent the tracing software from working, so you're no better off than before... :cheesy:
Hi Reese
If you're familiar with PHP and HTML then the script linked to above is a 'simple' script.
If not, you can either spend some time learning about them, or you can opt for a simpler solution.
There are a number of companies offering free hit counter services, a few of which are listed below:
Please note I have no affiliations with any of these companies, and am not offering any recommendations. I have not tried/tested any of the software linked to below.
http://www.statcounter.com/
http://freelogs.com/
http://cqcounter.com/
The difference between the script linked to above and these services, is that the script requires your server to do the adding up and processing of the data. If you're on free hosting, they normally don't support this. The services I have linked to process the data for you on their servers, hence removing the need for you to have php or asp support on your server.
Hopefully this helps,
Dave
Hi Michelle
Have you solved this yet?
I guess we're not really understanding your problem fully...
Can't you change quantities at the other end of the system? i.e. when it's in the cart?
Also what is the name of the cart?
Cheers
Dave
Hi JD
I don't see a way to do this based on the information you've given.
Can you perhaps tell us more information on what systems will be using it - is it a set number of computers, is it an Open access system (sounds likely) or what exactly? Are they company laptops or just anything?
Cheers
Dave
Obviously you can look at their own sites/portfolio to see if they have a good eye for colour, but you could ask:
- how they would improve the site structure
- how that would make it easier for people to find things
and umm I've run out of ideas!
edit: also could ask what software they use - do they use the professional stuff like Photoshop and Dreamweaver, or something else - however that won't tell you much about their abilities. You can only tell that by looking at their past work or samples.
Actually I was looking for a simple method, rather than data recovery. I just grabbed the files off the 'live' sites to replace them, rather than mess about restoring them.
Thanks for all the suggestions anyway.
Hi Chris
Actually the friend is a 'she' lol.
Thanks anyway for your suggestions - NTL fitted some stray modem with ethernet and usb, so it looks like a standard 'broadband' router will do the job.
I have actually used a Dlink wireless kit including modem for a neighbour - the control panel and instructions are hardly impressive - the quick guide doesn't say to restart the router after setup, so I wasted a while there.
I've never tried updating firmware on a Dlink, but I did stumble across a forum where people were reccomending australian and russian updates, so it must be a fairly big problem!
Linksys here we come!
Cheers
Hi
I'm looking to purchase an 802.11G wireless router to share an NTL cable/dsl connection (in the UK).
Does anyone have any recommendations, preferably emphasizing the value for money aspect (it's for a student friend)?
NTL guy said it had to be a cable router, rather than a dsl one, so I don't know whether the broadband ones I've been looking at would work.
Cheers
Dave
could you load the music on a splash screen before?
e.g. cache the music on the first screen, then tell the user to click to advance to the next page once the music starts?
Just linking to the music on the page before should be enough to cache it.
Clearly you have a design problem. If you're working in tables, try setting your width to 100%. You can also do the same to your height. It depends on your design as to whether or not it works.
What you're really looking for is a fluid css layout (try googling it) but that would require a full redesign.
Your other option is to horizontally center it using some CSS code or using table align=middle.
See http://www.pageresource.com/jscript/jwinopen.htm
I believe the line that might interest you is: 'remove any whitespace for netscape'.
Try reinstalling your graphics card drivers, and also check your graphics card fan to see if it's clogged, or if it slows down/stops when the trouble starts.
If you are familiar with the inside of your pc you might want to touch the heatsink to see if it's particularly hot.
Hi Pablo
That doesn't happen for me...
What browser/version are you using?
Dave
For anyone else who stumbles across this whilst searching for information on this problem, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;813444 holds most of the answers.
Hi John
The point of a frame is that it's supposed to scroll... if you don't want it to scroll then you're not looking for a frame...
Can you give us more info on what you want?
Regards
Dave
