Hey, I've repaired several emachines that had the same problem. Let me guess you have had that machine 1 year and 9 months. LOL That always seems to be the failure time. Anyway usually what happens is that the power supply goes bad in emachines, I've heard that they don't …

Hey guys, If it has a CDROM and a DVDROM you might have to specify which it boots to first. I've run into a similar problem before. It was specifically an MSI motherboard, anyway in the BIOS if it doesn't have the CDROM and DVDROM listed and boot devices you …

That usually indicates a dead componet, Have you tried removing everything except the CPU from the mobo? if it will stay up you can add componets back until you find the one that kills it. If it still has problems when everything is removed then your mobo is bad.

I'd download and run ad-aware if I were you. It should catch your problems, though hijack this! should have caught them too

"Tried with power only to the motherboard (unplugged drives and fans)." Sorry man your mobo is dead. we'll have a momonet of silence for it. Ok yeah, you can get the processor out and try a new mobo, but I can't guarantee it will work. Sometimes it takes the CPU …

I had problems once like this, apparently my HDD was going bad and it had corrupted the registry. So USB flash drives stopped working in that computer. It would say that it was installed and ready to be accessed but it did not show as a drive in my computer. …

Have you checked to see about firewall settings? That was my first thought, computer is able to see the internet (which is probably not blocked), but can't see anything else(which might be blocked) is usually an indication of a firewall blocking access

The next I would try is putting the ram back in and taking the video card and any other pci cards out. If that doesn't work unplug the HDD and cdroms. If that doesn't work (you should be down to nothing but the cpu and ram plugged into the mobo) …

Well on the laptop, sounds like some kind of hardware issue not virus related. Those pop-ups are actually just a clever ploy for you to click on and then when you are at thier website the install spyware/virus on your machine. It's pretty tricky. Anyway you can get free anti-virus …

I'll be honest, this is the first time I've heard of this file being a virus. It is very common as it is a Microsoft Office file. I'd guess that someone saw this file and started a false rumor about how it is a "virus" or other such nonsense. Here …

all of the above is good info. another thing is that you will recieve pop-ups that say you have an infection, but it is just a scam to load viruses/spyware when you click to be scanned. So be very careful

TRuth, It sounds like your are trying to connect to the router wirelessly, but you are connecting to the internet through a broadband Alltel card? That card does not provide "wireless" access. It provides 'broadband" access wirelessly. Basically the Alltel card conncets to a cell tower to provide internet access. …

Wouldn't it be easier to get another wireless card for the server? I think the default gate must be the same one as the router not the computer with the shared connection, maybe.

It depends on the manufacture of the router. Specifically netopia routers will generally cause the issue with the no sync inside without more configuration. Netopia's have quite a few tools but they have to be configured precisely. Linksys, dlink, and (I think) Buffalo routers will forward with out much hassle. …

First thing I would do is check the local area connection in the control panel. Does it show you are pulling an IP address? Was the machine configured for a static IP? If it was configured with a static IP it would show as connected, but not get any conectivity.
