And in the link I provided it notes what data types to use. Your line of code may have to add a conversion. Check the only link I gave you.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Sure.

Move line 3 to just before line 8. Then after that add your UNIX time like this.
dt = dt.AddSeconds(timestamp); //timestamp is your UNIX time value from your file.

You should be able to read files and all that so let's see you fix that up too.

Of course if you didn't read my supplied link, you will be lost.

ddanbe commented: Great help +15
rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Let's read your code. You declare dt in line 3. From there to line 8, dt never changes so all columns should be the same value.

As to fixing your code, I think the 3 lines I read at supplied link could be used.

Regarding Dazah direct messaging. It eludes me how to squelch a spammer. This one: https://www.dazah.com/users/view/pn2u
I see a Mute button but on hover no explainer what that does. Anyhow, imagine if you had millions of users.

Also I see I can add meta data to this user. Ouch, does that mean anyone can dump meta-trash on user pages?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

So no line 126? I can't guess if you commented your line 14 but while James is right, just like any debugging you dump the variables and see why it failed. As this code seems to rely on data not in the post you have to work it out yourself.

Just a thought. It looks like a report but what if the database had no matching records and the page count was zero? Then it should do this. But that's just code that wasn't coded to handle that condition.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Daniweb wins hands down. Why? The Dazah page is cluttered with other panels that have not much to do with what I am doing.

Have you heard the story about George R. R. Martin and what he writes on?

While the Dazah message interface is probably considered modern, I'm not messaging all those folk (some are spammers!) on the left, the chat schedule doesn't seem to belong to what I'm doing and recommened users on the bottom right? Never read from them on Daniweb.

Daniweb messaging would be my choice.

ernie.cordell commented: Kudos on the Martin article: I loved PCWrite and the Turbo Pascal editor. Sometimes modern doesn't do the job. +0
rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

And then I thought. OK, Dani wants me to check out Dazah.com which I did moons ago. I went there, I'm logged in and it seems to want to match me with folk and well, I'm not looking for that. Also, it's kinda slow and one second from one person to the next.

OK, what's that panel on the left. Click on the moderator's chat and there's content from years ago. And a post from 2018 about not much action.

Next up is fghfj565 fghgg. Ugg, a spammer. I'm not making much headway here. This isn't drawing me in.

Is there some video that shows me what I'm missing at Dazah?

Third time's the charm. It's my chat with Reverend Jim. Hmm, same think I can get at DaniWeb. OK, off to Dazapp. DaniWeb, Business Network and I'm seeing just 5 users there and 2 seconds from person to person. The final app is well. It is what it is.

Back to DaniWeb I go. Hopefully I'm missing something here. Of course my Facebook is a desert as well. I only have it to keep others from making a fake page about me.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

First, this looks like you put this under someone else's old discussion. You could delete that.

Second, unlike some forums, this is all about you learning. Read https://www.daniweb.com/programming/threads/435023/read-this-before-posting-a-question to see how this works.

So my thought is to break the problem down to steps. I see you have a very basic first step of getting user input. Are you stuck there?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Hello Dani, I hear you and if I haven't written so, I feel your pain as I had to many years ago decide what to do with my share of a PC sales+repair shop. I was working 18+ hour days and while it made money I couldn't find techs that had the right skills. That's off topic so back to your burdens.

The infrastructure stuff is rarely what users see. It may be what you see but you are asking for feedback which is great to see. I'm not saying this is some twelve step program.

One of my life lessons about sales, and getting the contract is summed up in one line:

Remove all objections.

The above PAIN POINTS are all great so if the landing page was changed to not feel like you landed on a random page and the login was redone so it wasn't running off to another domain (hint: Powered by Dazah to maintain your investment there) then you may have moved enough for new members to not feel as lost when they first get here.

Hopefully you can put the pain points on cards then assign a cost and benefit value to each one. When I was on larger development teams we did to assess which features we would implement first or another term we used was risk management. While some ideas were great the cost was too high and thus the risk would be higher. If the cost was …

The "<title>DaniWeb IT Discussion Community" is in the first page of HTML code and in the Wikipedia. I didn't go looking for it further but if this is ancient history then your choice to dust off the vestiges. This is not going to make any difference in my opinion so it's just left overs for cleanup.

As to being clear these are tech forums, I have to write that it's missing so many areas and the home page isn't strutting its stuff. I already noted that the Join/Login is not where you find it across many sites and if I read you right you are going to tackle that along with making the login be a DaniWeb sign up and login. Sure, "Powered by Dazah" would fit in nicely but leaving Daniweb to sign up, then the "Continue as _____" has confused many. And I'm not conversant in how a Facebook or other login works so I leave that to others to comment.

PAIN POINT: The home page as noted above feels like we landed randomly on the site.

Now this area could help a lot! Ask folk for ideas about that!

I would have to guess what displays but if these are DisplayPort monitors with in and out, then https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Supporting-Resolution/dp/B018YHTUNI/ is worth a look. This way you only need one adapter.

Again, I really wanted to check out your laptop for DisplayPort as it would easily(?) solve more than one external display and only use one cable to the laptop.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Sorry but that I can't do. I had hoped you would supply a link to the model but I can't find that. I have yet to find any tests for "best performing" so I can't do that either. I'd stick with USB 3.0 video cards from best sellers on newegg or amazon.

If you do supply a working link to your exact model at Lenovo I will check it out to see if you can avoid USB video cards.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Sorry but no Pascal I used had such a thing as DOSCOMMAND. I would be guessing what Pascal this is so for now I'll write you need to be complete in your details. Not everyone can guess what you have for the dev system.

That said, I just had to work a very very old app and in VB6 the old SendKeys() is dead now. It wasn't a big deal as what I needed to do was possible another way. But that's only to highlight that Windows (are you using Windows?) may start to block such as time goes on for security reasons.

If you are using a script or shelling out to DOS or CMD, then maybe what you are trying to automate could be done with AUTOIT?
https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php?topic=4297.0 kicks this around and I see a reply with the Windows and Linux API calls.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

How about a link to that model at Lenovo. I didn't find it so I can't check the ports available. But at this point you know so my bet is the USB video cards are required. These are a little slow so no games. OK for Word, Excel, etc.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

The topic was pain points we have with DaniWeb. Rebranding, Removing, or Integrating Dazah brings up the question of "Will this bring in users and their discussions?" To that my answer it would be the effort might have marginal effects. The account/login hurdle is pretty much one time and here's my new question: Does all this work with apps like LastPass or Apple's Keychain? Folk are getting lazy and any barrier to entry is going to lose folk today. Yes you can argue if you can't figure that out, you shouldn't be here. (ouch?)

Enough on Logins, Dazah, etc.

Many of you know I moderate elsewhere and I see the number of posts per day have dwindled there as well. But there it's not just programming. The topics are for the most part all things tech. Even autos. With all those forums, there are at present 10 moderators and most are active. It's not up to moderators to supply the answers (natch) but for folk to help one another. Here I'm not seeing that happen.

--->> Small note about joining DaniWeb. I pulled up CodeProject, CNET, DaniWeb and StackOverFlow. All had the Sign Up, Log In pretty much in the same spot far to the right and 2 put a rectangle around the Join Sign In to bring attention to how to join. rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

A 3 port switch would not replicate HDMI output nor let us show content on more than one display at a time.

It's a shame I can't decode which 320 you have. Some have DISPLAY PORT which you can daisy chain DISPLAY PORT monitors.

But as it stands you are likely going to have to buy some USB to HDMI video cards.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

TL;DR There is no magic for this one. But I will comment about joining. I haven't tried it again since all the changes but there's a rule about the software I write which is "Don't make me think." The apps I currently work on have me thinking about how to automate as much as possible and the right choice is the top choice or if I can devine the answer, use that and move on.

Which means that if Dazah login/account is required you may lose the less technical folk at the door. And yes, most of us know what you were trying to do.

WHERE DO I GO NOW? I may be a very non-typical user. My background is embedded computing since the 70's and progressively moving to bigger and bigger systems along with apps for the embedded systems then automated testing and more than I will write here.

So when I have a problem I used to talk with my coworkers (Engineers all) and later would pick up new skills with books. The Internet happened and as it filled with content, less books, now a book is a rare thing to buy. so....

Where do I go now? Google it is the answer. I find the problems I can't solve are out there and I do solve more problems than I ask for help on.

WHAT ABOUT AVERAGE JOE/JANE? This could just be me but they don't want to google it. They want it fixed. You see …

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@Shyne-1, most folk when they want more than 1 monitor want each monitor to have each display showing unique content. REPLICATORS don't do this. Be sure to tell all about this replicator since folk new to this will run out and buy such and then be very upset at the advice.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Let's watch https://www.codeproject.com/Questions/1247089/Vshost-exe-has-stopped-working too.

What I find interesting is the following:
Crystal reports are no longer shipped along with Visual studio 2010. Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 was planned to be released separately, instead of included with the product.
Thus, Crystal Report are not included in Visual Studio 2010 onwards. They are provided by SAP for free download.

There are settings you have to deal with to marry these two up so I can't guess if you flubbed the install or setup or are running into security or API deprecation issues.

If this app must be made, it may be time to step up to a current Visual Studio or past version that had Crystal Reports.

Further research (google) finds no one clear fix. This means your googlefoo will be tested.

Many Intel Graphics just can NOT support more than one external display. This is most likely why you can't do this.

To get to 3 you need to look for USB to HDMI or such USB External Video Cards.

Sorry for the typo, grow your user? Try user base.

As to chat, I think a decade ago maybe but now we are drowning in choices for communication. Many of us are trying to find a way to disable unsolicited communications. My new Android tablet was just too much as I set it up to defaults and whammo, messages about you know what.

Except for Reverend Jim at the cottage.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I worry what I think could have folk pulling out the pitchforks and torches. But why not?

With what Wikipedia states about DaniWeb, it may be too narrow to grow your user. "DaniWeb IT Discussion Community is an online IT message board." Maybe someone can try to edit that or if that's this site's direction, maybe a more open Dazah site would do better. I see pitchforks. Maybe markdown would have to changed out on the tech+social Dazah since well, it has its deep tech bent to it. (Torches lit?)

I never used Pastebin. But maybe it's just me and the designs I've worked on over the years. Almost all have been proprietary and all I can share are the concepts but never the full code from those projects.

I do understand the pain.

@Dani re Skype, when I was traveling we started on Skype but as Microsoft appeared to be monkeying around we found it more and more unreliable so we moved to Google Voice and now Whatsapp.

I get the feeling MSFT is trying very hard to get more on Skype by pre-setting Windows 10 to autolaunching Skype.

Rumor has it MSFT may sync developer profile pages on GitHub with user profile data on LinkedIn which could rile developers. Imagine you have your day job and a Linkedin account and some Github project that is unrelated to your day job. Your employer may find you out.

This also flies in the face of an old (debate this?) Unix Philosophy:

Make each program do one thing well. To do a new job, build afresh rather than complicate old programs by adding new "features".

So my view is Github needs to continue to do one thing well.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

When this news came across I only had to think of MSFT's prior acquisitions to think this may not end well.

@happygeek. Long ago in a job where I did receiving for a company I had to deal with damaged and sometimes lost shipments. You learn real fast who to pin the blame on so I share without reserve.

When the seller ships, responsibility transitions to the carrier so if a shipment arrives damaged I would have to option to deny delivery or if the damage was found later, file a claim with the carrier. Yes, yes, ebay is full of scammers that ship bad stuff but here I'm sharing the everyday story of a store that would receive goods from vendors many times a day.

As to lost, it rarely happened but when it did the carrier was on the hook for the loss. Since I never received it our accounts payable would not pay (so much for Ebay's method.) So when they seller came calling for payment we would point them to the carrier to show proof of delivery which would always show they lost it or delivered it to the wrong store.

So your claim may not be against Ebay but the carrier. And yes, I wish you luck here. It's a shame Ebay paid the seller since in the old normal system they would not be paid and the seller would file against the carrier.

My only ebay buy was for a pair of cooktop inserts. Our house had this cooktop with replaceable burner units. Only one burner would light and the other side had a grill unit. Shame but spares are not available in the shops or maker's site. Ebay it is and it all worked out for a fraction of the cost to install a new cooktop.

My view is many Ebay purchases are gambles. I won this time.

PS. For me, ebay is my shop of last resort. Not a place I will use often.

In a system I used I needed to maximise use of the CPU cores and thread so I used another method. I shared this in a discussion here: https://www.daniweb.com/programming/software-development/threads/496779/multi-threading-task-takes-much-longer-than-1-thread

I used this method because I found the method noted in the discussion to pile up on one core. After my change I've seen my system updating 16 devices over RS232 (this is an industrial app) and without the usual delays.

"Do you see the benefit in creating a Dazah app that's targeted towards DaniWeb users?"

OK, that took some thinking. To me, DaniWeb is the Dazah app for DaniWeb users. We already have direct messaging and if someone needs to go beyond that, we have (heresy?) other ways to commincate. For this reason the chat app may not fit well in the DaniWeb as I perceive it user base. You could poll the users you have to see what they think about this.

All that aside I'm getting less and less hits on programming forums in general with Google. It's clear the search engine is changing towards something else. And I can see why. Take a random collection of people like you scoop up in say Soylent Green and what percentage are programming, programmers and the like? I'm sure you know this number. So does Google. So to leverage your userbase information you have to tackle what they want which is tough since well, here we are.

Is it true that 1 in 3 hits are from a certain country now? Maybe you need a Dazah with leaders for them?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Turns out nothing is as simple as this. Updated information follows.

https://www.cnet.com/how-to/the-fbi-says-you-should-reboot-your-router-should-you/#

"Update, May 30 at 8:27 a.m.: According to the FBI's PSA regarding VPNFilter, the reboot recommendation is not intended to remove the malware, but rather to "temporarily disrupt [it] and aid the potential identification of infected devices." In other words, the FBI is enlisting you in a search-and-destroy operation. Needless to say, we recommend the aforementioned firmware update and factory reset if you own one of the affected router models."

Here's the current list of possibly affected models:
"Linksys: E1200, E2500, WRVS4400N
Mikrotik: 1016, 1036, 1072
Netgear: DGN2200, R6400, R7000, R8000, WNR1000, WNR2000
QNAP: TS251, S439 Pro, other QNAP NAS devices running QTS software
TP-Link: R600VPN"

This makes this a far more onerous task. About half the home users I know of will be able to update the router firmware. At least the affect models (the ones we know about) is on a short list. Read the article for the list of routers you really need to take care of.
