Re:
Sitting on my computer last night and screen turned black.
Yeah, sitting on it will cause all kinds of problems!
Re: Personally I hate NIS and I'd skip it. I use the free version of AVG (www.grisoft.com), Microsoft Antispyware, and occasionally scan using Adaware and Spybot. Get a cheap hardware firewall by Dlink, Linksys, Netgear, etc. And most importantly, dump Internet Explorer and use Firefox. Re: Your color isn't working right so don't worry about the black cartridge. The color cartridge is probably bad especially if it did the same thing in two printers. You should try cleaning the print heads through the printer software.
Re: The following steps will remove any password set in the Internet Explorer Content Advisor and allow you to reset the program to its original state. 1) Click on Start and choose Run. 2) Type in RegEdit and select OK. 3) Now click on the little plus sign to the left …
Re: To shutdown 2000 from the command lline I think you can use: rundll.exe user.exe, exitwindows Well, I know it worked back in Windows 95 anyways.
![]() | Re: So you don't have anything installed on the drive yet? If not, then during the install of XP you'll be able to partition however you want. It's easy to do, just read what's on the screen. If you already have data on the drive in one big C: drive then … |
Re: How far do you get and what exactly are you having trouble with? Are you typing "fdisk /dev/hda" and then getting stuck?
Re: So you never changed the drum right? If not, then it is 99% likely it is the drum. Check out www.abcink.com. You can get a compatible drum/toner combo for $100 with free shipping or just the drum for $72.
Re: Wow, that's a weird problem. The only idea I can come up with is to check the BIOS for an option to always turn that key on/off.
Re: Are you sure the monitor isn't the problem?
Re: Sure, it's possible. Before you get started make sure your ISP gives you a real IP address. A real, static IP address would be even better. If so, I can help you along.
Re: I had that problem on a W2K server awhile back and I found an article on MS's support site that said it was fixed by installing SP3 on the server. Installing SP3 worked for me. What SP are you up to?
Re: It sounds like you need to get a firewall too. I wouldn't mess with a software. Get a cheap hardware firewall such as the Linksys BEFSR41. I'm sure the repair place you took it to can sell you one and help you get it setup.
Re: Yep, it's new. And an important upgrade too as it fixes a security issue.
Re: The first thing I'd try is replacing the powersupply. I've seen numerous computers that will not boot up until the cord going to the powersupply is unplugged for a minute for so and then once it is reconnected, it works fine. Replacing the PS fixed 'em all.
Re: I gotta agree with Catweazle. Upgrading the ram or the video card is not going to allow you to play the newest games at any sort of decent setting. The CPU is going to be a bottleneck too. I'd recommend that you save your money till you can upgrade the …
Re: Did you, by chance, use MAC address filtering when you originally setup the AP?
Re: Sorry, that will not work. The video port on your laptop is output only. It is not going to accept video in through that port.
Re: That's funny... I just worked on a customer's computer the other day and he had the system32 folder popping up at startup too. It took a little time but I used msconfig to track it down to a line that I see you have too. So use msconfig to disable …
Re: Here are some things to check/try: Check all your fans... powersupply, cpu, and video card(if it has one). Slight overheating will cause problems just like you described. Disable everything in Msconfig and see if you still have the problem. You could try safe mode too, but I'm not sure if …
Re: Basically it means the CPU runs on a 133MHz bus. This site has more info: http://www.cpuscorecard.com/cpufaqs/dec99e.htm
Re: Bullguard is a piece of garbage.... back away from it slowly. I've seen it screw up more than one system.
Re: It does burn cd-r and cd-rw. But I don't see any software included with the drive. If you already have the software then you are set otherwise I'd look for one that includes the Nero software. They are really dropping in price because the dual layer DVD drives are out …
Re: I don't think 200GB hard drives were around in 1999. Do you mean 20GB?
Re: It's very likely that the hard drive is dying. I'd backup any important data immediately and then download a HD diagnostic utility from the HD manufacturer. Run that and see what it says.
Re: I voted for Packard Bell. Because they have made me the most money fixing them. LOL HP/Compaq puts a lot of food on the table too. Darrin Seats Cornerstone Computing http://www.cs-computing.biz
Re: It looks like you have two antivirus programs, Mcafee and AVG, running at the same time which can really slow down a computer. One of them needs to be removed. Personally I like AVG much better than Mcafee. Which ever one you keep, make sure it is up to date. …
Re: I don't know ANYTHING about C++ but I noticed a typo in this line "purchase(brand, quanitity, coke, pepsi, dry, hires);" there's an extra i in quantity.
Re: Welcome to the fun world of hard drive marketing. See, the HD manufactures say the 1000 bytes=kilobyte, 1000K=megabyte, and 1000MB=1Gigabyte. But really it's 1024 bytes=kilobyte, 1024K=megabyte, and 1024MB=1Gigabyte. So take 160X1000X1000X1000/1024/1024/1024=~149GB
Re: Start with some trouble shooting. Can you Ping the IP address of the ISS server from the cranky PC? If so, then try to connect using "http://IP address" instead. If that works, then you probably have NetBios turned off in your network settings.
Re: Hmmm, that looks like a Java file. My only ideas are to run Adaware, Spybot, reinstall Java, or try to Google a solution. I don't have an absolute solution to fix it but I'd recommend installing Firefox instead. www.getfirefox.com
Re: Is the "no keyboard" error just text on a black screen before any windows comes up? If so, then you can pretty much rule out a virus. And since you already tried another keyboard, it's probably the motherboard flaking out. There's not anything you can do except replace the mobo, … |
