U might overburn some cd media, but that will gain u just a few megabytes, or can produce a coaster :)

Some Plextor burners manage to burn up to 1.3Gig on a 700MB media with their high density writing. However, no other cd drive is able to read those cds :)

Yopp yopp, first thing to disable is the firewall. Always a good step if u got any network connectivity problems

Bad Karma[CORE] 0 Newbie Poster

depends on if you set it up right. Same is true for the Windows Firewall.
all i can say is that i never ran into problems with neither Kerio nor Sygate in regards to Fileshring across a network.

i wouldnt be too concerned about a temperature somewhere between 50-60C, my system is running at 57-59C for almost a year now and never had any thermal probs. No special cooling installed also. Just the cpu fan, and a case fan. Thats it

Well sounds much like you would have to install an Operating System in the first place.
Did any software come with that computer ? Like WIndows 98/2000/XP ?

Sometimes you can loose the "New" option on the right-click context menu. This seems to be related to the presence of Internet Explorer 4.x. To restore this option:

Start the Registry Editor
Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ Directory \ Background \ shellex \ ContextMenuHandlers \ New \
The value for (Default) in the right-hand pane should be: {D969A300-E7FF-11d0-A93B-00A0C90F2719}

What could help is reinstalling it, then uninstalling. Maybe the uninstall routine is just damaged

Look for a tool that is called Locksmith.
This will allow u to change the PW without knowing the current one

If that doesnt give any errors i would recommend to use the diagnostics tool of the HDD manufacturer, which also would give you the option for a thourough disk scan, and maybe even a low level format of the harddisk

Some have, some dont.
I still recommend the use of a software firewall. But definitely not the M$ Firewall.
If u are looking for some reasonable products i would suggest either Sygate or Kerio Personal Firewall

Yepp, the windows bootloader will still be needed, no way around that.

Would do the following:

IDE0 new harddisk
IDE1 old harddisk

Install Windows on the new harddisk, once done installing install FC3 on the old harddisk. GRub will pickup the windows installation and add it to the boot menu.

Possibly a problem with the User Profile Hive that sometimes doesnt free resources.
More Information on UPH and a cleanup utility to be found on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837115/EN-US/

Yepp, try another CDROM or download the software from the AOL page (quite sure it is still there).

By the description i figure its a winmodem, as he says that the port is still open when he tries to reconnect.

What i suggest is remove that winmodem in device manager, get latest drivers and if available a firmware upgrade. Install the new drivers then update the firmware if available and see if that makes a change.

Could also try another PCI slot to see if there is a problem with IRQ assignment
