Original problem probably was a bad connection.
It's too bad you're not adventurous enough to open the case and poke around as what I suspect could be easily fixed by doing so. Basically it sounds like you need to reinstall the driver for that drive, and unplugging the IDE cable and the power cable and turning it on and off and then reattaching the cables will make the operating system recognize the drive as new hard ware and will try to find the appropriate driver.
I use W2k so I'm not exactly sure of how XP is set up but it should be similar. Try going to my computer, right click on your CD-ROM, click on properties, click on hardware, click on the specific drive, click on driver, and click on update driver.
Maybe someone here more experienced with XP can provide more accurate details.
If it is a USB type keyboard look in the BIOS to see if it is still enabled. If it came with drivers try reinstalling them.
So why did he decide to go back to the full sentence instead of half the sentence?
Basically what it boils down to is that Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer is pissed off with Sheriff Lee Baca for over riding his orders and allowing Mz. Hilton to be released from jail and allowed to serve the rest of her sentence as a house arrest. Sheriff Cara stepped way over the line totally forgetting his place in the packing order when he released Mz. Hilton, and with his past history of questionable "gifts" and debauchery I suspect that he is going to be under more scrutiny than a skunk in church.
Have you tried assembling the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and PSU outside the case to determine whether you are shorting to the case?
When you upgraded the PSU did you purchase a 24 pin type with the p4 connector, and are both connections made on the motherboard?
Have you taken a voltmeter to the PSU to determine that all of the rail voltages are normal?
Have you gone back over all of your connections?
Please provide us with the make and model of you computer or motherboard.
Depending on the age of you computer it could also be bad capacitors.
Was this computer ever running or is this the first time you have fired it up?
When you reseated the PCU did you reapply thermal compound?
Even with Paris Hilton getting all the media attention I guarantee that if this had happened it would be all over the news.
To put things into perspective of just how much attention Paris Hilton is getting in the media check this out, one of the live networks covering her being removed from her home broke during the lull of waiting to a live report of Defense Secretary Robert Gates's decision today to cashier Marine General Peter Pace as the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This blows my mind, something as significant as this gets a foot note to the Paris Hilton show.
I wouldn't be surprised if the tears were real, after all she didn't get her way.
As for eliciting sympathy...it seems that the current sentiment of the general public is that it's about time she got what she deserves.
Anyone want to make bets as to how long she will stay in jail this time????
The defecation has hit the rotary oscillator and the judge is feeling the heat from all angles. It's about time!
I'm not sure what the legal precedent was that allowed the judge to award her time off for good behavior...for simply showing up for her court date...but I hope that his decision to have her serve the full 45 day sentence doesn't provide her lawyers leverage to have the sentence reduced. This girl needs a reality check, and this could be the best thing that could happen to her.
quintoncoert, either you're omitting information to bolster your argument or you are badly uninformed.
Here's a short synopsis of the events leading up to today.
"Paris Hilton pled no contest to alcohol-related reckless driving after cops arrested her on September 7 for a DUI in Hollywood. As a result, the DMV suspended her license, and a judge placed Hilton on 36 months probation, with one major condition being: to "obey all laws."
And then...
"It has been confirmed that Paris Hilton violated the terms of her probation last night when she was pulled over for driving on a suspended license, and could spend up to 90 days in jail as a result. Last night, Hilton was stopped around 10:30 PM after cops say they noticed Hilton speeding down Sunset Blvd. without headlights. Deputies then discovered she was driving with a suspended license, arrested the heiress and impounded her car."
As you can see this is not just a case of driving without a license, the DMV suspended that license for DUI and reckless driving.
I made reference to jail terms and death row, surely you are aware of OJ Simpson and Robert Blake getting away with murder, and we have yet another celebrity on trial for murder right now. Obviously Paris Hilton doesn't fit into this category...yet, but the point is that the American public is tired of celebrities making a mockery of our legal system.
quintoncoert ...Paris Hilton is a celebrity for all the wrong reasons. This woman's claim to fame consists of releasing a video of herself having sex, partying on a regular basis with other socialites, and insinuating herself into any public exposure she can finagle. This woman has no socially redeeming qualities, did it ever occur to you that perhaps we Americans are tired of seeing "celebrities" get away with what would land anyone else in jail or death row?
As for extending her a favor, a favor is when your friend give you a ride home, what is happening here is a miscarriage of justice.
That motherboard has three expansion slots with a capacity of 1GB per slot using PC-2100 or PC-2700. If you use PC-3200 you can only use two slot with a capacity of 1GB per slot.
PC-2100 = DDR-266 = 266MHz
PC-2700 = DDR-333 = 333MHz
PC-3200 = DDR-400 = 400MHz
If you go to Crucial they have a scan which will tell you what you have and will suggest modules to increase you RAM.
Christina...if you re-read that post you will see that I questioned "what ever sense she ever had".
Paris's problem basically boils down to being spoiled. She couldn't believe that she had been sentenced to jail, she believes that her wealth and social status equates to impunity. But let's face the facts, she is not stupid, she does what she does because she can. Her parents are only responsible for bringing here into the world, she became the person she is all on her own. There are other people in her age group and are wealthy, but they manage to stay out of the press and out of jail.
Personally I believe that the best thing that could happen to her would be to have to serve the whole sentence in jail. A dose of reality probably won't change her attitude, but it may impress her with the fact that her wealth and social status won't keep her out of jail if she breaks the law.
That computer has a AMD Sempron CPU which normally runs a little hot, but not that hot. Check the heat sink to make sure it is properly attached.
What is everest showing for the rpm for your CPU fan?
It could be a problem with the hdd, has it been making more noise than usual?
You can test it by going to my computer, right click on the hdd, click on properties, click on tools, and click on check now.
When was the last time you clean out the dust from the CPU heat sink fan assembly? You could be verging on a overheating issue.
btw...there is nothing wrong with AMD, some of the earlier CPUs may have run rather warm, but they are still good.
I wonder if she knows how bad people hate her.
I don't think people hate her, I think we all shake our heads and wonder where she lost what ever good sense she ever had.
I can't help but wonder just what her parents think of the image she has presenting to the public.
I love it...Al Sharpton just had to jump into the fray and add his opinion which is biased as usual.
African-American social activist Reverend Al Sharpton also blasted the release.
'This early release gives all of the appearances of economic and racial favouritism,' he said. 'There are any number of cases of people who handle being incarcerated badly and even have health conditions (who) are not released.'
This is an excerpt from this article, worth reading.
Mean while back at the ranch our favorite socialite is enjoying the comforts of home (bar and other distractions) while she serves her sentence with selected friends and cronies.
Running two anti virus programs is not good, running Norton and any other anti virus at the same time is guaranteed to cause problems. In situations like this you should run you scans in safe mode, you might also want to run scans with Adaware and Asquared.
If you think that you are bug free you could try a last good configuration or a system restore.
Have you run scans for viruses and other nasties? If not I would go into safe mode and run you scans.
Have you made any changes to you OS recently?
Did you reformat the hdd and reinstall the OS after you installed the new motherboard?
The first thing that comes to mind with that description is overheating. Is the fan on the CPU heat sink working, is there any change if you leave the case open?
Did you get rid of the virus? What did you use to get rid of it?
Please provide us with the exact error message.
That information is a little thin to base any opinion on, care to provide us with a little more information, like the make and model of your rig, the make and model of the RAM that you are trying to use.
If your using a module that's only 128MB I'm guessing that you are using an older computer, like PC100 OR PC133?
As much as I like and use AMD the Intel Core 2 duo is the best on the market at the moment.
You should take into consideration that the reviews at Newegg are made by the general public who may or may not have purchased and used the products, and may or may not have any idea of what they are talking about. I have read reviews that it is obvious that the person has panned the product because it was smarter than the user.
It just doesn't stop!
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Hours after Paris Hilton was sent home under house arrest Thursday, the judge who put her in jail ordered her into court to determine whether she should be put back behind bars. Hilton must report to court at 9 a.m. Friday, Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini told The Associated Press.
"My understanding is she will be brought in in a sheriff's vehicle from her home," Parachini said.
Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer issued his order after the city attorney filed a petition late Thursday afternoon questioning if Sheriff Lee Baca should be held in contempt of court for releasing Hilton Thursday morning.
The celebrity inmate was sent home from the L.A. County jail's Lynwood lockup shortly after 2 a.m. for an unspecified medical condition in a stunning reduction to her original 45-day sentence.
She was ordered to finish her 45-day sentence under house arrest, meaning she could not leave her four-bedroom, three-bath home in the Hollywood Hills until next month.
..and the way OJ made money of his crime with the "if I'd done it" book is repulsive.. I don't know why anyone would buy such a book..
Robert Blake got away with murder also.. now he's infamous
Actually he didn't make money off that, the courts and some good discretion of the network took care of that.
This morning Paris Hilton was release from jail to serve her full sentence as a house arrest. Paris was released for "health" reasons, there is no mention of what that constitutes...perhaps threats from other prisoners if she didn't quit bitching about the lack of room service? She will have to serve the full sentence of forty odd days, she will have to wear the ankle bracelet and be confined to her home. Poor baby.
I have to admit to being a little disappointed in our judicial system, first she gets her sentence cut in half for good behavior which was given for showing up for her court appearance, and now she's going to spend her jail time at home. If this had been anyone else without her "social status" they would be serving the full sentence in jail. Granted her social status does present problems that would require isolating her from the general rubble, but unless her "health problems" were serious enough to hospitalize her I think should stay in jail.
I thought I posted the following information last night, oh well...things happen.
You may need to go into you BIOS and set the boot order so that you Cd-ROM is the first boot device in order for the computer to boot from the mem86 CD.
What happens if you bypass the wireless router and connect directly to the cable modem?
I missed the 01 when I first read this, are you running raid 0+1? If so try running on just the hdd you have the OS on.
There are a couple of things that you can do to trouble shoot this, but the first thing to do if you still can is to back up your important files. One thing that you can do is to go to my computer, right click on your hdd , go to properties, go to tools, click on check now. Your hdd has several extra sectors, so if you have a couple your hdd may still be good, you may have to reinstall your OS throug. The other thing to do would be to go to the manufacturer's site and download their diagnostic tool. You will need to copy this to a CD and boot from it to test your hdd.
I actually was able to find your RAM, but no spec other that 512 PC400 DDR, weird that they don't mention it being DDR2 much less PC2. I was able to find your motherboard which shows that it support DDR2 533 and 400 with two expansion slot with a max capacity of 2GB, but there was no reference to being able to run in dual channel.
You wrote that under heavy usage that the pair fail, what happens if you run just one of the modules under the same load?
This is weird, but it sounds like you may have a problem with the motherboard. Try downloading and run Memtest86, . This will either show that there is a problem with your RAM or point toward the motherboard.
Edit: Just curious here, the instructions for you motherboard were originally in Russian, is this where you are?
If your computer is still under warranty return it for repairs.
If you are planning on doing a fresh installation of XP I would suggest wiping the drive with a utility like Wipe Drive, this will remove any traces of that virus, a format only removes the file addresses.
If you have only one or maybe two bad sectors you can work around these, and you can do this using you Window OS.
Go to my computer, right click on your hdd, click on properties, click on tools, click on check now, you will have an option to scan and attempt to repair sectors.
A CD-ROM is a CD-ROM whether it SATA or not.
That could cause overheating which would shut the computer down quickly.
mmm im afraid this will just add to the sense of hate most peope here fell toward the american government
President Bush has not exactly been a good will ambassador for the U.S., the results of his actions will take decades to get over.
There are several things that could cause your computer to crash, buggy drivers, a problem with the OS, problems with other software, and aging parts. Are you getting any error messages?
One of the things I would look for with a computer this old would be bad capacitors, if you are not sure what to look for go to this site, they have several good pictures.
I can understand the radar facility being installed in the Czech Republic, as a defensive position it has merit in that region, and I sure that the Czech government will benefit financially from the exchange. What I don't understand is why in the world would we need to have interceptor rockets in Poland.
Citing Iran as a potential threat also has merit, they may have the ability to build nuclear weapons in the near future. Their President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is just enough of a religious zealot that he is worth worrying about, I wouldn't be surprised to see him threaten or use those weapons. One thing that always comes to mind is that no atrocities have been committed more gleefully than those done in the name of God.
I started to make a remark questioning Ahmadinejad's sanity, but then I thought about what Bush has done during his administration and I realize that I would have to include him as well.
Speaking of nut cases, the other country mentioned as a "rogue state" is North Korea which is led by Kim Jong il, this guy definitely is not playing with a full deck of cards. The only thing working in the favor of the world in general is their technological ineptitude.
If you download Everest Home Edition and look under motherboard you will see what you have. Please find out and post your findings.
President Reagan was sold on the concept of using lasers and or plasma beams as a missile defence, but the practicality of the concept was fraught with problems. Chief among these was getting a generating plant large enough to make it run into space and keep it running unmanned. We now have the technology to build lasers that don't require the tremendous amounts of energy to operate.
As for the north Koreans, with their current technology they stand a better chance of nuking themselves. Their ICBM technology is doing well to get off of the main land. Basically as is stands today they couldn't hit an elephant in the arse with a surf board.
Russia's state of military readiness is an oxymoron, their military has been routed by economic demise and pilfering. My biggest concern regarding their military is what parts of their nuclear arsenal have been sold to what third world power.
Did you apply thermal compound between the CPU and heat sink? Is the fan for the CPU running?
How is the BIOS set to recognize the hdd?
What motherboard are you using?
Most motherboards will support ATA or PATA HDDs.
The bus speed of the PCI bus is 133 MB/s, so it should work. And the 7200rpm is the faster drive.
Please provide the make and model of you RAM.
How do you have the RAM install, in slots 1 and 3?
