I'm pretty sure the firefox is Beta. Do yourself a favour & download Opera 7.23. Only 3.5 Mb download, with all the bells & whistles.

I read somewhere that it is good to put the swap file on the partition that didn't have the OS on. Is this right, & how does one do it?

Try going to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Favorites\Links & delete it there, changing the directory to whatever you have your OS on. I do not know if this will work, haven't tried it. Windows may just recreate it at restart.

First of all try emptying your cache. Then install 3 programs, Adaware 6.181, Spybot Search & Destroy 1.2, Spywareblaster. Get adaware from http://www.snapfiles.com/get/adaware.html , Spybot from http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download & spywareblaster can be reached from within Spybot. Open spybot, go to immunise & there is a link to javacools software, click on …

You could also benefit from using a browser with built in abilities to stop pop ups. MYIE2 runs on the IE engine without most of the security loopholes of IE. Also Mozilla & Opera are excellent browsers.

First thing I would do is get two programs, Ad-aware & spybot S&D. Once installed you need to update them on the net. Once done start Ad-aware & make sure you have in scan within archives selected. You must place a check in the box along side any spyware it …

Did you install from the same download each time, or did you download the file again? I would probably delete the exe you downloaded, then redownload 6.1 & try again, Other than that I haven't a clue.
hi monte.i will never use internet explorer again if i can help it......
I installed it on Saturday & dumped it on Sunday. Not a patch on Opera. Doesn't render a lot of M$ pages correctly, slower than Opera, no features, twice the d/l size as Opera. MYIE2 is better.

Is it 'system' or 'system idle process'? If it's the latter, that is normal when doing nothing else.

A friend who has XP home wants W2K Pro installed instead. Is it possible? She has W2K disk only. If it's possible, how does one partition the drive, how large to make the OS partition, etc? She has 40gig HD. Thanx for any help.

Have you run a search for *online virus scans*? Also, you may be able to delete the file if you boot in safe mode. Not sure.

IE properties/advanced/allow download on demand. Only thing I can think of apart from installing a download manager from a 3rd party like freshdownload from www.freshdevices.com

I rarely use IE myself, but can you not 'lock' the toolbars after you make the changes?

I installed mine of a CD so no reason why you can't. Stick it in the drive & it should auto-run, then follow the prompts.

Doesn't XP have a system restore on it? I'm not sure how far back you can go with it as I use W2K.

I use cacheman & would recommend it to all. It has quite a lot of good tweaks as well as recovering memory.

Hi all. For those who do not know, Windows does not defrag the swap file when you run the defragmenter. PageDerag defrags the page file (registry included) which speeds up load times etc. PS. Mods, please let me know if this sort of stuff is not acceptable practice here.
