You will need to get a CD of the previous OS. Doesnt matter if you own it, or if it's Win98, ME, 2000. During setup of XP, you'll need to pop in the said CD when it asks you to. Thats it.

No. An upgrade version requires that you have an old edition of a product. I don't think you are even asked the old product's key.

Actually, hacking means finding vulnerabilities / loopholes in a system and then telling the owner of such a system about the said vulnerailities so that corrective action can be taken.

Cracking on the other hand means finding vulnerabilities and taking advantage of them to either make money (illegally) or to gain access to restricted systems with malicious intent

I have to agree. Cracking (its the correct term, BTW) is illegal, unethical and wrong. If you do crack into accounts for any reason, you deserve to be punished maximum.

It shows up in device Manager, but not under Disk Management? That's quite weird. Can you check the disk on another computer to see if the disk itself isn't kaput?

Actually, what you're experiencing is perfectly normal. I don't know why, but running any 16 bit task seems to eat up CPU time like crazy. If anyone else can explain why this happens, I'm all ears.

Vista needs a dedicated graphics chip (at least of the FX5200 level) with 128 MB of dedicated vram to switch on the eye candy. I doubt you can view the aero interface in all it's glory using an onboard chip.

The remaining 128 MB is probably dedicated as VRAM. That means you have an onboard video card and of your 512 MB, 128 is being used exclusively by your Vid card. You can change a few settings in your BIOS and actually reduce the amount of mem the vid card uses.

I dunno. I have 2 machines, one with a FX5200 and a 6600. The rest of the specs include Athlon64 2800+, 1 gig RAM and 120 Gig HD. Vista runs quite sluggishly on the one with the FX card. I suppose MS will polish the performance of the final product.
