In that case, I believe the DVDs were not burned properly, or the DVDs got scratched while in storage. I'm not too sure you can do anything about it now.

The pink plug means that it's for the microphone. Green is for the speakers.

You say your display remains blank. Does the BIOS give out any specific sequence of beeps? If yes, either the card or the slot are faulty. Otherwise, check that all connections are tight.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Can you confirm this error on different DVD drives?

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Are the ports enabled in the BIOS?

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

First, scan your system for Viruses and Spyware. Once done, run Windows setup, and choose the upgrade option. This ought to take care of any errors in your XP installation.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Are you sure you're running the task with proper credentials? XP, as you know, requires a valid username/password to run the taask. I'm not too sure about Win2000, but I assume it's the same there too. Be sure to enter a valid username/password.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Louker: When you see the desktop wallpaper, press "Ctrl-Alt-Escape" to launch task manager. Then, click file>new task(run). In the run dialog box, type "explorer" and press enter.

If youaren't using DHCP, make sure you've setup the IP addresses correctly. IF you are using DHCP, make sure your lease timing, DNS and Gateway info is correct.

Also, are your computers able to ping each other? Are they able to ping the main server? Can the server ping the clients?

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Yeah. Seems to me that your hard drive is kaput. You may have to pay for the new HD though, if the system isn't under warranty.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Did you activate Vista? I've heard reports that MS is planning to disable certain features in Vista (including the aero thingie) until you activate your copy.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

I have a nagging feeling that when Vista ships, the requirements will be higher. For example, I'm pretty sure that an onboard vid card will not run the aero interface. Also, I somehow feel that 1 gig ram will be the bare minimum for Vista.

Just my two cents.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Wouldn't this be a problem with Vista replacing the NTFS access permissions on the folder? If yes, well, I'm not too sure about Vista, but here's the procedure to reset CP's access permissions:

You're right. I actually did start a blog at BlogSpot, but I gave up on the idea. Somehow, the idea of blogs never really appealed to me. But you can be sure that when I find a topic I feel strongly about, I'll write about it.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Yeah. The moment I heard their work, I was hooked. The first album I heard was Scenes from a Memory. It still remains my most listened to albums. You have to love the way the moods progress throughout.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

To be perfectly honest, no. I really don't see any noticable diff when the pages load. Using Firefix and IE.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly are 'Canned Messages' ?

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Interesting features. Looks like someone's been workiing overtime on these.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

I suppose I don't write one because

1. I wouldn't know what to talk about
2. I'm too darned lazy to actually write one

However, I do look forward to reading people's blogs. Keeps me informed of what's going on in the tech world.

That and the fact that cell phones are so often used by men having sex with their GFs. These clips are then circulated on the internet and sent via MMS too. Here in India, there have been numerous cases about such clips doing the rounds. These also include famous celebrities and students. It's shocking the way perverted minds use an otherwise wonderful technology to cash in.

You said that the problem recurs with the HD connected. Can you see if the problem occurs with the HD connected on another computer? I've seen this problem on a friend's computer. Exact symptoms you described. As soon as I removed his HD, the computer booted up fine. I then ried the HD on my machine, and experienced the same problem. Luckily his HD was under warranty. I suspect your HD.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Yes. Also, since Windows can't see the drive, you'll need to format the drive thru disk management (start>run, type diskmgmt.msc' and press enter). Choose your new drive, rt click on that and choose "Format". Be sure to select NTFS as the file system.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Can yo uconfirm the RAM is working? Test it on another lappy, to be sure.

Whoops. Sorry for the double post there.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Me, I'm so hooked to Dream Theater these days. Gotta love 'em. Especially tracks like "Home", "The Dance of Eternity", "Strange Deja Vu" and "Metropolis", to name a few.

are you able to reinstall norton 2005? if yes, reinstall it and then try uninstalling again.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Reinstalling without a source of XP ??? its not possible in my books.

It's not possible. Period.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Go to disk management (start>run, type 'diskmgmt.msc' and press enter)Right click on your HD without the drive letter and select "Add drive letters and paths". Next, click "Add" and select the first availablr drive letter. Do this for all your HDs.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Let's check if the drive itself is a goner or not. Connect the drive to a mobo with an inbuilt SATA controller. If the computer again runs sluggishly, it's a fault with the drive.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

We could help you if you could describe in detail what's going on with your computer...

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

That's kinda illogical, isn't it? How can you call the run box an accessory?

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Seaking of Live products, Windows Live Mail sucks big time.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

NO sense of smell? Sorry to hear that. Must be hard for you...

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Allright. MacGyver it is. Or is it that?

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

I'm not too sure about that. Since the computer specifically says Disk error, I'm inclined to believe the disk has gone bad. However, there is a possibility that the disk itself is fine, but the controller that's gone bad. I'd recommend you get the device serviced by Sony.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

That's the Power Supply Unit. The little box to which you connect the power cable.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

actually, my friend had the same problem with his ASUS board. The same model as yours. Turned out the board was faulty. So, if you're sure the drivers are fine, the speaker is fine and the connections are fine, the mobo itself could be bad.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Considering you deleted it a month ago, you can be pretty sure it's deleted permanently. Not even a file recovery app will help you recover the file now. Sorry dude.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Along with good ignore instinxts, I suppose you do need the good ol' ignore button too.

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Angus?? The guy's name was Angus? Sheeeshh...

goldeagle2005 33 Finkus Stinkalotus Team Colleague

Try resetting the CMOS by removing the battery for 10 minutes. See if this helps.
