Disappointed (or worse) kind of sums up my feelings about the first wave of Droid tablets to be honest. I was hoping for much better.

I could only review those units which I'd had a chance to actually play with, any not reviewed here fall into the 'no units played with' category I'm afraid.

As for the 'no conclusion' well the verdict for the Archos states "If you are looking to buy a 10" tablet this Christmas but cannot run to the cost of an iPad, the Archos 101 is probably your best bet" which is as close as you are going to get :)

Actually, that's the infamous Eizo calendar. Eizo makes medical imaging equipment, funnily enough, and it's a promotional gift to customers/suppliers which has become something of a collectible for obvious reasons. There is talk that Eizo may do a deal with a publisher and make it available to the general public next year.

Do a search for 'Eizo X-ray' and you'll find tons of info about it.

Right now I'm a very cold geek. It is -9 (Celsius) here and our central heating boiler is on the fritz. As it's approaching midnight in the UK, and I live in a rural village, no chance of an engineer coming out any time soon either.

I was born in the (early) sixties, but suffered from viral encephalitis in the eighties which means there's a swathe of that decade which has just vanished from my memory. If you think about tablet computing these days then the chances are what you actually mean is the Apple iPad vision of a slate-based device. That's not altogether surprising when you consider how long Microsoft, and others, had been trying to break this market only to falter and fail. The iPad, without doubt, energized a genre by pretty much redefining it. Of course, that energy is boosted by competition and nowhere is this stronger than the small army of Android-powered tablets that are now available for the seasonal shopper. But should you hang fire until the Spring and see what iPad 2 has to offer (most likely an improved screen, a front facing video camera, more grunt under the hood plus a thinner profile) or opt for an Android now? Eeek. Bad memories for me, as I had shingles about 10 years ago. Luckily I got to the doctor as soon as the rash appeared and was given tablets which started working on it. Still, was in agony for weeks all the same - so you have my deepest sympathies. A truly nasty thing to get... :(

Which just leaves the complaint that DaniWeb members are unfriendly, which I have to say is not something I would agree with. On the whole DaniWeb members are very friendly and very willing to help.

I have both Xbox 360 and a PS3, and the PS3 pretty much just sees use as a (pretty decent it has to be said) Blu-ray player these days. The Xbox has, in my opinion and that of my kids (10 and 12, boy and girl) the best games and by far the best online multiplayer experience.

Yes, Xbox Live Gold (which is what you need if you want to play online multiplayer stuff) is extra, you can buy a 12 month subscription card with an extra month thrown in (sometimes even two extra) for around £35 per account! Might sound steep, but you get what you pay for and I honestly think it is worth it if you want to play the online stuff such as Call of Duty MW2/Black Ops or Halo Reach for example.

Horses for courses though, and as with most things computery I'd say think about the software first. So if the games that your son wants to play are mainly PS3 specific, then your question is already answered as to which to go for.

As for Kinect, I seriously think it blows both Nintendo Wii and PlayStation Move out of the water - and if I were looking to buy a console right now I'd be lined up for a Xbox/Kindle bundle to be frank.

Mrs Happygeek is particularly 'concerned' about the third large box of a dozen broken but otherwise complete ZX Spectrums I have just this weekend collected. I know nobody needs 30+ broken ZX Spectrums, but surely having 30+ spare machines 'just in case' cannot be a bad thing? :)

The lag issue is an odd one, and I'm now starting to think it must either be environment related (bad lighting, room size, whatever) or dodgy hardware (faulty Kinect sensor) as I have only heard of a handful of people who are complaining about it while pretty much everyone else I've spoken to, and there are dozens of them now, say that lag is no problem.

My experience is that there is no lag. My kids say the same, and oh boy would they complain if there was :)

Perhaps I should start selling stuff from my loft as it is stuffed full of vintage/retro video games and computing kit.

Only joking, I'm pretty OCD about my collection and would rather die than sell a single bit of it, including all the boxes of 'spares' - also known by Mrs Happygeek as 'boxes of broken junk'.

@Hemingway - you would be best advised to start your own threads rather than jump in on someone else's. It's not too bad in Community Introductions, to be honest, but if you do it in other forums then you will most likely find yourself getting an official warning about hijacking.
