3 possible causes according to Microsoft ,did you try any of these fixes .

• Your computer uses an Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) hard disk controller, and the following conditions are true:
• You use a standard 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable.
• The basic input/output system (BIOS) settings are configured to force the faster UDMA modes.
• The file system is damaged and cannot be mounted.

Fixes .
• Replace the 40-wire cable with an 80-wire UDMA cable.
• In the BIOS settings for your computer, load the 'Fail-Safe' default settings, and then reactivate the most frequently used options such as USB Support.

Thanks very much for your help on this. I did what you suggested but there doesn't seem to be any difference. I already run Content Cleaner and Drive Cleaner every time I come offline. Nothing has seemed to work. I cannot seem to figure out how to get more space on that drive. I really am at my wit's end about this. Thanks for your suggestions! JL

go to
mycomputer ,click on the c: and what is the amount of the drive and the free space .

I have Windows XP VGN-A190 laptop and my local Drive C keeps saying I have NO space left. I have deleted eveything I can and moved other things but to no avail. Is my only option now to have it formatted? I have an external drive where I am keeping everything as well just in case the main computer crashes, but I cannot download anything and it is getting ridiculous! HELP! JL

right click on mycomputer /properties/tools/ and run a chkdisk ,also search net for ccleaner and use it to remove temp file and the like .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Thanks for the quick response. I deleted the windows folder and program files folder. Do you know of a program that lists all files more comprehensively than a windows search?

Don't know of any programs ,doesn't mean there isn't one ,
i re-read you first post ,so you are saying you cant find them ,i first thought you meant you couldn't see the folders, so what files are you looking for ,can you see/open the documents and settings folder ,do you see the admin and different users folders .
some files you created with different programs are sometimes stored in a folder within that programs folder in the Program Files folder .you said you deleted .Some programs default them to mydocuments

Hi

I'm desperately need a cure for my external hard drive. I have a 250gb Seagate hard drive inside a Multimedia Maddog external enclosure. Both the hard drive and the enclosure manufacturers doesn't provide any drivers. After I plugged the USB 2.0 enclosure cable into my front Dell Dimension 4550 USB ports and the enclosure AC adapter into the wall outlet. The hard drive seem to be working properly however I could not find the hard drive icon on my computer nor under Computer Management. The weirdess thing is on the right lower corner of the window there is a Safely Remove Hardware icon, from my experience this icon represent hardware like flahdrive, mp3 player, or anything that have a usb connection. Do you have any ideas what is the cause behind all this? Thankyou

phuynh

a little more info need ,like has it ever worked ,also is the usb hdd partitioned and formated .

yes that from hijackthis ,can't tell for it what one is using all the cpu ,open taskmanager and go t oprocess and under CPU it showes the % being used by each one ,what one is using the most for an extende period of time .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

try removing the avg firewallprogram ,in device manager go to new task type in ,appwiz.cpl, this will take you to add and remove programs ..
you can aslo open internet options from new task[ type in inetcpl.cpl] and go to advanced and reset to defauld ,or check you connections ,but it maybe the firewall stopping you internet ,

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

your task manager should also show what process is using the most of the 85% it may even be bouncing from one to another ,check it and let us know !

When it comes to BIOS or firmware updates, I'm always of the mind that if it has been OK for x number of years, if it suddenly starts doing it now....

true ,but after reading all the post in this thread ,no where does it say that this computer has been working great for years ,and also nowhere does the user say if any new hardware has been added to the computer lately .

any other ideas? could it be related to the link i mentioned earlier? has anybody got any other ideas? -- HELP!!

the page i linked earlier ,
has some tips i think if you follow them you just might fix your problem.

copy/paste fro that link == * 0xC0000005: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION

A memory access violation occurred.

For a complete list of exception codes, see the ntstatus.h file located in the inc directory of the Windows Driver Kit.
Resolving the Problem

If you are not equipped to debug this problem, you should use some basic troubleshooting techniques. Make sure you have enough disk space. If a driver is identified in the bug check message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.

If you plan to debug this problem, you may find it difficult to obtain a stack trace. Parameter 2 (the exception address) should pinpoint the driver or function that caused this problem.

If exception code 0x80000003 occurs, this indicates that a hard-coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but the system was started with the /NODEBUG switch. This problem should rarely occur. If it occurs repeatedly, make sure a kernel debugger is connected and the system …

Hi everyone! I have a huge problem with my laptop. Well for one I haven't had ANY problems whatsoever since I bought it a yr ago. I was using it yesterday morning, turned it off, and then last night it just wasn't working anymore. The last thing I downloaded was adobe softwares which I needed and tutorials for photoshop. As far as anything else goes, I'm only online to check e-mails. Yesterday and Adobe software update thing was the last thing I dled. And it had asked me to restart, but I chose restart later and that was it. When I turn it on, it shows the screen where I can chose Run Windowns, RUn Safe Mode bla bla, So when I chose Run Normal the Windows logo appears, the screen will go black and then a blue screen appears with the "problem" but it dissappears really fast that I can't read it, then it restarts all over again. I'm really frustrated because non of the safe modes work, they freeze half way. and I'm afraid I may lose all of my work. Someone help me pretty please!!!!

Thanks

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I already did this, but checkdisk told me that it couldn't finish the checking. Advanced checkdisk (with scaning for bad sectors) doesn't work either.

leeds me to believe you have a bad or getting bad harddrive ,i suggest you backup any data that you need just in case and i would say the data in that folder will be lost to you ,unless you get hold of a good data recovery program.and even then you may be out of luck.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Well, I searched in google (of course), but nothing useful for me came out. As for the link you gave me, I already read it, but it speaks mainly how to correct the problem for CDs and DVDs and those programs ued don't work for hard disk problems. ;(

ok try a checkdsk ,go to mycomputer /right click on the hdd ,go to properties /tools and run the chkdsk to fix all errors ,cant hurt ,

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

some reading on the error message for you ,the fix may be in there somewhere or a google search of the error message might bring up an answer , that error message is generally associated with cd'd and dvd ' did you copy that folder from a cd or dvd .

well it seems we have a little argument over second hand comps. i will say this you are both right and both wrong. there are alot of dishonest second hand sales men out there. delt with one a few days ago. wanted to sell me an 80 gig ide hd for 100 bucks. went down the road and got a bran new 250 gig sata for 79. BUT alot of new comp places want to sell you super fast high powered comps that are so advanced that the people who buy them dont even use 2% of that power. around here a bran new comp at most all stores are top high power things that cost 1200 or more. go to a used one you might pay 300, if you dont know what your looking for you can easly get screwed eather way, bran new or not. thats why i offer my services local around here to people. if they want to know if they got a deal let me know what and how much and i tell them weather its a good deal or not. i alos offer to build people computers. i find that people are really interested in paying 700-900 for a computer built for them thats the same or better than the ones in stores that cost 2300 or more top of the line. it costs me about 600 to build a bran new computer amd 3200 with gig ram, and 200 gig hd, sound card, …

oh well, if i'm already at this point: which anti-virus and anti-"every-malicious-thing" do you recommend us/me to use on the computer?

sorry i don't make such recomendations ,as it just starts a fight, with others reading this post LOL,
myself i used norton antivirus ,and windows defender for the past 3 yrs almost , and for the past week AVG antispyware trial .
I bought this computer new in 2004 and it hasn't been formated and reloaded yet ,but having said that i watch where i surf and what i download to it .i have another computer for that .

Yes, the hard drive is partitioned. Here is the configuration: Drive "A" is the floppy drive, Drives "C" and "D" are local drives, and Drive "E" is the cdrom drive.

Its been a long time since i used win95 not sure about permissions ,and the multiple users was a bit flakey if at all possiable .did it work the right way at one time for you ! ,also just for the heck of it im loading win95 on a machine with 2 partitions to check it out .i will post back in awhile if i find anything out .

It didn't change anything :\
maybe it's the driver I installed?
what would you do after all this attempts?
burning the important thing and just format?

Did you try a driver roll back ,you do it in the device manager ,right click mycomputer/properties/hardware /device manager/display adapter properties
If that doesn't help then yes i would burn the important stuff and format And reload ,

im not totally sure but i think that is because the svchost using the most ram is the one you modem is using to connect to the net .,and is normal function of windows ,so unless y ou are having major problems i see no need to do anything about it ,but having said that its not normal if its driving up the cpu usage, but im sure what to sdo to fix it if its not a trojan/spyware . svchost.exe

Im new to this program ,but have used it on a couple of computers ,give it a try to see if it finds anything ,.

Yes, it's a slave drive. I have it hooked up as a USB Drive.

that is what i mean in my first post as how you were trying to access it ,anyway ,i would make sure the drives jumpers are set to slave and install it in the computer with the other dirve ,make sure the master drive is set right to ,some need to be set to master with a slave .
i find sometime usb devices can cause weird problems .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

From My Computer. How else could I access it?

well i use a usb device to add and axcess other harddrive to my computer to get file off of them now ,one time i had to install them as slave drive to do it ,and yes through mycomputer was where i go to click on the drive ,never had one say it need to be formated though . i assume you have it installed as a slave then .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I am only able to access drive "D" as read only. As far as I know, no multiple user permissions have been set up on this PC, and I've no idea how to change them. Could this possibly be spyware? If so, how would I go about removing it? Once again, this computer is running Windows 95.

usually drive d: is the cdrom ,so i assume you d: is another hard drive ,and it will not let you use it for storage .right .
