So, my friend told me about a HSF, I tried putting it in. But before that i took off the wires off my motherboard. I took off the old HSF, i tried putting in the new one, but it didn't fit. So then I decided to put back the old fan. So i did, I didn't have too much paste to put on processor and the heat plate. Then I applied it, but then a small amount was wiped off on accident, that was all the paste i had. So it still had some paste but not as much. THen i tried putting the wires back on the motherboard. I was confused where what went . I think i put 1 or more wires in the wrong place. When i turned it on, everything went fine, until i tried to do something, the computer shut down. It did that everytime i tried turning it back on. Im confused, could my computer problem be overheating or the wiring?

P.S. if it is a wiring problem, is there any tutorial or websites that have pictures or videos on wiring? or how it should look like? please post :)

THanks:mrgreen:

been there done that ,the wires for the hsf should be only 2 or 3 wire[3 is for bios monitored sensor] and they shoud have a plug on the end so they are together as one female plug ,it plugs into a 2 or 3 prong male plug on the board usually right …

. I assume that the directories referred to as All Users, Default Use, Local Service and Network Service are required by the system. However, are the directories under my name (Oded and Oded Degani as well as Owner) required to be triplicated?
:-|

you say control panel only shows 2 accts, guest and oded degani,so you keep the oded degani for sure, that you ,and the screen shot you show should have i think , as mine does ,a administrator and quest folder , my assumption is that somehow these got renamed and maybe you should delete nothing .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

it should reinstall on reboot of computer .unless they removed it from the machine.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

lol, yeh, I sort of just hijacked the thread I think! So theres no way of reinstalling windows from this recovery cd as it only gives 2 options for recovery, which are basically ghost images. If i got a media center cd from someone and installed it, could I use my serial number and it would work?

first ,if you ran the ghost image it will install windows and give warning that all existing data will be lost ,i think it does a quick format ,or maybe just overwrites old, as for borrowing a windows disk ,yes as long as its the same version as what your key if for.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

As far as i believe thats all the recovery cd is, a ghost image. I dont have the windows xp cd so i cant choose to reinstall wondows manually

im lost, your first post is about changing hdd,so you need to use the recovery ghost image to install xp on the bigger drive.or on the original hdd.

Edit : i just noticed you aren't the original poster !!!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

or advanced settings which just allows you to choose which ghost image to use basically.

so you need to use a ghost image to reinstall winxp i do believe .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

The only options i have when the restore cd runs is complete wipe of everything, which ive done and it doesnt solve the problem, or advanced settings which just allows you to choose which ghost image to use basically. I just tried the guide you gave me, still hasnt sorted the problem, method A and B didnt work. I never had the restore points, so tried the alternative method it goves, still didnt work

so yo ucompletly wiped windows and reinstall winxp with the recovery and the computer still will not boot to winxp .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

so the memorex disk work with nero and other software just not the wmp10-11 .only thing i would suggest is a shot in the dark ,disable this either with hijackthis or msconfig .oh and you are running hijackthis from a temp, zip folder ,suggest unzipping it fully into its own folder in the root of c:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"

Im having a problem with a hardrive and only have the recovery cd, not the xp cd. Would I be able to run fdisk, then stick the recovery cd in and it will still recover? Its the manufacturers recovery cd (Toshiba). Also ive ran it already but it doesn't sort my problem..(missing/corrupt windows\system32\config\system).recovery runs fine then restart and same prob as before.

You should be able to boot to the recovery cd,click on to install windows ,when asked delete portion and then create a new one .,then click enter to install windows and format it ntfs, []Remember that this will remove all data on the hdd.also some recovery cd give the option to do a nondestructive install of windows !Some do some don't .

Have you tried this to fix the error you recieve .(missing/corrupt windows\system32\config\system)

Can Anyone Please Tell Me What This Means & How I Can Fix This Issue? I Am Using An Older Toshiba Laptop And Whether I Put In A Cd-rom(that's Been Burned With Music On It) Or A Blank Cd, I Receive The Message " Please Insert Disc Into Drive D"
What Can I Do To Fix This Problem?
Thank You In Advance, Stephan

so if you put a legit cd,and not a burnt one in the drive does it work ,if no then mostlikey cause is that the drive is bad .

Okay, let me preface this by saying I'm not blonde and my blonde hi-lights are fake, BUT I have no idea how to reinstall it. I didn't install it in the first place it sort of came with Windows/my laptop. I get the corruption part, but I have no idea how to perform this simple reinstall. Would you mind telling me?

If you ever need any information about the esoteric realm of sentence structure or punctuation, I'm your girl, but on this stuff . . . I need all the help I can get.

I think they just mean to click to use none ,then reboot and then choose to use a screen saver again ,reactivate not reinstall.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

But how do u delete them permanently??????????

to quote a old Canadian tv commercial, the answer is, AWAY!

The above post about gone in format is a questionable answer.

I do believe that they will be deleted when you shutdown and restart computer ,i think they are only deleted to memory that is dumped on reboot ,i could be wrong .
also when in IE go to tools/internet options/advanced/scroll down to security ,and check off ,delete temporary internet file when browser is closed

yea i do trust the BIOS over this program. and if there was an important sensor needed to be read from, it would be listed in the BIOS before some fan speed adjuster program. the BIOS temps both read normal. so I am not so worried about it now. thanks, caper. i took the extra desk fan outta there. as long as i dont get another restart i think this is handled (I did have the auto shutdown enabled to protect my system, and a warning buzzer also for when its five degrees from overheat)

your welcome ,,i went to the s.m.a.r.t section and click on my hdd and it gives you the option of doing a online analysis of the hdd ,does a fitness and performance test ,says mine is all right

What all could be broken and need fixing?

good ? what were you working on when you fried the psu, sounds like and easy fix go out and buy a new psu and replace the old one ,

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

it will take longer to open the case that it will to replace the fan...very easy.

and remember dangerous as the power supply can hold power even after being unplugged ,also unless the fan has a plug into psu board you will need to cut and solder the wires together ,maybe be easier and cheaper to buy new psu

I was wondering if anybody can help me out with something. I am trying to update Toshiba BPCI TAPI Service 1.4 to 1.43 in Windows XP Pro SP2 on a Dell Latitude 110L and WIndows keeps installing the 1.4 instead of the 1.43. I uninstalled 1.4 from the Add/Remove program and Phone/Modem Advanced tabs in Control Panel and downloaded the updated TAPI service from Toshiba and when I restart the computer, Windows XP finds the new device but continues to install the old drivers. I know Windows XP stores the old drivers in the registry and I know that there is a way to manually push or install the new drivers in Safe Mode but I do not know how to do that. That is what I need help in doing and if anyone knows how to do this and can give me instructions on how to do this, that would be great. Thanks in advance

right click on mycomputer /properties/hardware /device manager / go to the device in question ,right click on it go to properties /drivers /update drive and direct it to the newer driver you have downloaded .

cpu sensor is under the chip itself ,on the motherboard .
fans that plug into the 3 prong plugs right on the motherboard are then connected to the boards heat sensors and will be monitored by the bios.
trust the bios reading over that other piece of software .

page 20 of the manual ,shows the chip connection/plug into the board and its in there that the sensor would be.

You should see something like STOP 0X0080007x in the blue screen as well...that would tell more than the IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN statement which coul be anything ranging from drivers to hardware issues

a few years ago i use to read up on overclocking ,and they use to use a regular radio shack indoor /outdoor thermometer ,with a sensor on the end of a wire to go outdoors ,and place the sensor in the case near the cpu or even under the cpu, if there was room under the cpu. like this one .

yes I agree with this guy, please use the correct words/proofread your posts and/or know what you are talking about.

also I dont think there is a fan in my harddrive, ive worked with them enough to know that mine doesnt have one, and ive never heard of a hardrive having one in the first place. anyways, do you think im just getting an incorrect reading from the sensor? cuz 72 degrees Celsius seems impossible, considering I should just about have a fire going on at that point

yes that is high for sure ,if you have 5 sensors on the motherboard then i would think you should be checking it with the software that may have came with the board, may be on motherboard disk , or in the BIOS, boot computer check it with speedfan ,if its showing high, reboot computer and go into setup/bios and check in the pc health section or hardware monitor section, for temps of all the sensors/ .

I installed the software on 2 computer and it does show hdd temps one is 31c anf the other is 32c,

edit: i just check my bios, hardware monitor section and the 31 c was motherboard temp.there was no temp section that was for hdd.in mine anyway .this maybe the reason you get lower temp when pointing the fan at the cpu or other end of computer because its cooling the motherboard .so the 72 may not be the hdd, anyway what ever it …

dmguitar0 commented: took time to install the software i was using to ensure it wasnt faulty, and provided knowledgable responses +1

i ahve been flipping ram between my 2 yr old computer and a older on i have here, and when i change it in my p4 2.8 ,from 256 to q 512 ddr it will not boot up either ,until i go into the bios and set defaults and save changes then it will boot to the changed ram .weird, i think but works for me .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Perhaps trying to cool your own hard drive or CPU is not the best idea; maybe you could instead try to contact tech support, or if you don't want to buy a new fan, try to fix your old one, for I know for a fact ALL CPU's come with one installed(aka, inside your computer's hard drive).

It seems a lot of people call the computer tower a harddrive ,when in fact its just that a computer tower/case ,and inside you find a lot of things one of them being a harddrive disk .like this .
http://www.harddrive.com/
and having taking apart a lot of harddrives I can assure you there is no fan inside one .but yes there are fans in the computer tower/case.and the ones that are plugged directly into the motherboard will be monitored .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Fan # 1 should be the cpu fan ,i can't imagin how it would know the actual harddrive temp,i know mine is not connected to any temp sensor on the motherboard or else where and as far as i know there is no sensor in the drive itself , .this program only list temp of items connected to sencors on the motherboard

Nah I dont live in Fort McMurray any longer. I moved to Calgary.

And I've seen reasonably good models for under 500 dollars at Futureshop, Bestbuy, and Sector Computers. I just wasnt interested in spending that amount of money if I could assemble my own computer for practically nothing. I'm still going to see if its going to be cheaper to fix that AMD system then it would be to buy a new computer. Probably if they charge me anything below 200 dollars I'll except. If not I'll just sell it.

If I could have guessed that my fixed AMD would eventually give me hardware failure I probably would have gone with a new computer right away. Typical.

I live in nova scotia and buy and sell used computers ,i get most of what i sell from Calgary ,check this site ,giving you live in calgary you drop in and buy one .http://www.vfxweb.com/index.php?maincateg=1 ,they should have some p4 towers below $ 300.00 canadian

Well I decided to cave and bring it into my local computer repair shop. They are going to do a hardware scan using some software I'm sure was mentioned earlier that I couldnt seem to find on a search engine.

Depending on how much it would cost me to repair it based from their estimate; in relation to how much they'll buy the P.C off of me remains to be seen. But apparently finding a cheap 1gigahertz XP operating system with AGP compliant graphics slot is a huge pain in the ass. =T

Hi ,if you didn't install a third oardy firewall and its just the winxp firewall then go to control panel ,windows security ,then click on fire wall ,then exceptions along the top ,then add a prrogran and pick 360share fron the list ,and ok you way out of firewall.

Hello,Welcome to Daniweb ,not sure why the computer restarts with out warning or a BSOD error ,maybe a heat problem ,Celerons don't usually run hot but! ,check cpu fan ,when you restart computer after a crash , go into the bios and check for pc health section [if there not in all bioses ]to see cpu temps .also consider a video card compatibility problem ,do you have another one to try
To address the winxp no disk problem ,do you have a winxp cd key lable on the the computer case from the orignal owner .if yes you then can just borrow a winxp cd same version and use that key

I'm just wondering how i can sort this out because obviously i dont need it on both and its taking up its fair share of room.

Caperjack,
Thank you for replying. You are quite right in questioning the SCSI, my Computer supplier lists the HD as a SATA but a system description via 3MARK list the HD as a SCSI Device and the Windows System Information / Storage / Disks, lists SCSI. so I am assuming that it is. I don't understand why if the windows system is detecting all the HD data why it can't find the HD in Recovery.
When you buy a built system you get so little information eg no Drivers, I will try to find the motherboard manual from ASUS, otherwise how do you know which Driver to download?

Regards
ICP

Hello ,the link in my post above is a adobe reader file of you motherboards manual, and i would say you drive is sata and not scsi ,if you read in the manual you will find info on how to get the drivers from the motherboard cd if you still have it .if not you will need to search asus website for drivers for the motherboard ,and copy them to a disk .

your board ,if its the deluxe ,actually the deluxe only one listed .
