Here's the error message in blue screen:

the stop 00000012 is a General stop error ,the fact it says something like "TRAP_UNKNOWN". means it doesn't know what is causing the problem . according to this web site , http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.php scroll down to 0x00000012: TRAP_CAUSE_UNKNOWN, not far down the page .

you need to run some spyware removal tools ,do a searck for Adaware and spybot , use both as one removes thing the other doesent .both are free on the net .

no. i had boot.ini problems with previous version so I formatted and reinstalled. so it boots into new version easily but it cant boot into the previous.

So you don't have 2 just the wrong info in the new boot.ini ,easy fix is to change the amount of time it takes to boot to the good one ,right click on mycomputer/properties /advanced /startup and recovery ,settings and lower the time to display operating system to about 5 sec or so .this way you won't have to wait the full 30 seonds or hit the enter key

My Hitachi Visionbook Pro 7000 series 7560 laptop will NOT start. I have charges it for days straight. When I unplug it it will remain off, and when I plug it in and try to turn it on, It will still not start! I do hear a buzzing sound when it's plugged in, but nothing when it's not. And plugged in or not, it does not display anything on the monitor.

I forgot to say that when I unplug my 2ond hd it boots into windows properly.

I assume you have the jumpers on the drives set to master and slave ,the master may have to be set master with slave , the slave just slave .usually this info is on the hdd label

I just recently got a new computer from ibuypower. I also bought a windows XP installation with it. After turning on the computer, the installation auto ran and goes through the process, I clicked f8 enter enter and it brings me to the part where you choose where or which part of the space ti install the windows on. After that part, it comes an error. Says,

open the case amd make sure there is even a harddrive in it .also did you restart and try the setup again ,you say when you turned it on that setup started auto ,did you buy winxp and did it come on a cdrom disk .

might i suggest shutting off the auto restart to see a blue screen error message.
right click on mycomputer go to properties /then advanced /then setting in the startup and recovery section and uncheck automatically restart,

then when it erros you ahould get a blue scree of death error,it would look somethin like this ,write down the error # and post it here .

Ok ,you installed new motherboard ,then a Re-instastall of Windows Xp is suggested and most time needed ,you can sometime get away with a repair install if you have a from microsoft version of winxp and not a OEM recovery winxp.

It's not a 'bad' power supply. otherwise the green power light would kick off.

A bad power supply can turn on a computer ,run all fans and lights ,but not go past the boot screen

One might indeed ask such a question. The answer is simple; I need to run software that is very speed sensitive. It was originally written back in the day of the 'original' PC AT, running at 4.22 (or whatever the speed of those beasts was) MHz, and the programmers that made it didn't take the possibility of faster processors in the future into account. In some instances, it won't even run on a (much) faster processor; in others, it runs, but is very flakey. Either way, I've pretty much written off the old Samsung system. There are a couple of components on the board that are burnt pretty badly, so it's probably not worth fixing.

unless you password the computers admin acct they will be able to go to safe mode and log in as admin and change anything they want .so you need to go t osafe mode and password the admin acct first .the user adminacct is different than the computer admin acct.

virus protection is not enabled, i then enable it, but it goes back to not enabled. It just wont work.

you nortons expired by any chance ,or a trojan or virus or even spyware will do this ,its most likely you have one or the other .search for free online virus scan and run one ,look for trendmicro or panda scan

Miniplayer mode has always worked fine on my computer, however recently it has stopped. WMP itself seems to still be working perfectly fine but when i minimize it it does not go to the MP mode. I have WMP ticked under taskbar>toolbars, but all this does is shift some space at the bottom where it should be but WMP just stays as a tab at the bottom just more squished up.
I had never realised how useful the MP mode is untill now, when I am having to do without. Maybe it was my lack of gratification that lead it to teach me a moral lesson : ).
Anyway please help as I am sure it has a simple answer which I have overlooked.

Hello,yup it is a simple fix ,never used it before but when i minimize wmp it tell me how to activate mini mode ,you right click on a blank space of the lower toolbar and go to toolbars and click on windows media player .

it could be caused by anyone of the things you mention in you post ,start by removing any addin cards ,if you have 2 sticks of ram remove one then the other ect ect ,it could be a bad power supply shorting out ,it could be anything .sounds a bit like power or heat !

assuming you copyed it to a cdrom then maybe you didn't create a bootable cdrom ,you will need to use nero of what every software you have to create a bootable cdrom ..

Hi if you put this board in a computer and loaded win98 se it would have all necessary drivers to run the board ,you could then use WCPUID to get a model name of the board ,if you need it to run some other OS.

Recently my mother board was burnt due to wrong insertion of a new RAM memory and switching the PC on. To start with there was no display, then I tried to test my monitor on other PC, it worked. One of my friends who knew better about hardware said that either the Mobo or processor is damaged. So i bought a new mother board A8N5X, a new processor AMD 64, 3200 and a PCI Express card. Old mobo is removed and new is installed and also processor is mounted. The connection is made. The problem is that the PC does not beep. I saw that the power supply on mobo is having more slots than older mobo. I don't know why the system is not working eventhough everything is new and connected properly. Do i have to change the power supply box? or use SATA cables? or could it be that the memory is damaged(although it works on other PC)

Hi, all. I am new to this board, and am an amatuer computer tech/screwdriver wizard (read "witchdoctor"!:rolleyes: ). I am largely self-taught, and probably don't know nearly as much as most others here. Anyway, on to my problem. I am trying to revive an old 286/12, and need some info on the motherboard. I found a website a few day ago with tons of info on various different computer components, but, being the idiot that I am, I didn't bookmark it, and now I can't find it again. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find any such? The specific computer I am working on is a Samsung S550. Any ideas? Thanks!

one would ask Why try and revive such an old comp!,one would ask what info you need ,please open the case and get a name or number off the board and post it here .

Edit ,a search reveals noting but cmos batteries ,for the Samsung S550,mus be another model name on it somewhere .is it a laptop by chance

Ok ,its strange to say the least that it only affect the sound in WMP,just for the fun of it i loaded the codex and the converter on another machine i have here and it works ok,
did wmp ever work after you installed the divix codex or did this happen right away after installing them ,I had one error when installing wmp 11beta it was finished ,just install some music store i agreed to [just for the heck of it ]when it stoped responding ,i did and end task ,then got a possiable plugin error of some sort ,
if it started after the install of dicx ,have you tried uninstall the divx

Yes Im serisous ,and you cold have mentioned that it did the same with all the players ,so its most likely the new codex you've install ,why blame it on wmp

the only thing I changed was to download a new divx 6.4 codec and xvid 1.10 codec, sounds and videos play fine in my VLC player/Real Player/Divx...etc its only the windows media giving me issues lol it figures :) i?

is that ALL. you media player is beta ,in the building stage, what do you expect from it .! you are being used as tester by microshaft ,contact them with the error message and see what help they offer ,im sure they will be glad to hear from you

another harddrive is what i would try ,or as you say you put it in your other computer and formated it ,do that agin but load winxp then jsut to see if it wil linstall on the drive .

I see a list of options that read something like this:

All I am offered to do is click Enter to install, D to delete partition, F3 to quit .

Not to beat a dead horse ,but its because its a OEM install ,the friends xp isn't going to make any difference unless you formated and loaded it ,then you would get the second R.the screen shots in this link show what it looks like ,

I think frontpage will work just fine for what you are trying to do ,a lot of money for dreamweaver ,large learning curve also ,with a program like dreamwearver .good luck .

I also got a 'copy' of an winXP pro disk from my mate and it also never gave me the 2nd repair option!!

If you hit enter the first time to install windows xp[insted of hitting the R to repair] you then should also then see a R for rpair after you hit enter ,to install winxp,as a computer repair person I do this all the time .

the reason you didn't get the second repair option is because you were using an oem disk ,this only works with a genuine microshaft winxp cd .

I have a Athlon 1000 here with simular problems ,and it was bad capacitors on the motherboard , i replaced board and now it workes fine .
also you don't need windows to boot to test ram with memtest it runs from dos ,copy to a floppyand start computer and it will run the test .if you do this let it run for a few hrs .

I have installed SP2, but my Local Area connection for ADSL is messed up. It says <LIMITED OR NO CONECTIVITY>. I think this is something with IP adresses, but I can't handle it, and when I click repair it doesn't do anything
