I'd like to suggest another program for you to try, I've found it can find things most other programs can't.

It's called CounterSpy and you can get it from here:

http://www.download.com/3000-8022_4-10337358.html

.

sure looks a lot like microsofts antispyware program !

Edit: I just found out why ,it powered by Giant ,same as microsofts !!

2nd Edit ,my microsft antispyware ,stoppen working when i uninstall counterspy !!!

Hello Me

Thanks for the reply. I am a bit of a dope as far as all this is concerned. My lovely young lady is going to buy me a book on how to burn dvds. If I still have problems can I get back to you? Anyway to answer your questions, I have both Nero Burning Rom v6.SE and Ashampoo Shrink and Burn and it was the latter that I was trying to use. The movie concerned was one that I had downloaded.

Regards

Redskin

Giving that downloading movies is illegal, it goes against the rules here at DaniWeb to disscuse this any further, sorry !
PS: i don't think you will find a book that covers it either! sorry

Hi Caperjack

Thanks for the suggestions,

I have tried the commands step by step as you suggested but am experiencing the same result as before. I go to www.hotmail.com and type in the user/password of my account which then gets redirected to the following URL ...

https://loginnet.passport.com/ppsecure/post.srf?lc=2057&id=2&ru=http://www.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/sbox&tw=20&fs=1&cbid=24325&login=anony89@hotmail.com&domain=hotmail.com&da=passport.com&kpp=2&svc=mail&msppjph=1

and after about 1 minute it finally ends up at

http://www.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/sbox?did=1&t=.....

with 'The page cannot be displayed message' ...

Note that this seems to be a localised hotmail issue as my yahoo email account is still accessible.

Any further thoughts ???

sorry ,just passing on the thing that worked for others ,never have a problem with hotmail myself

Hi

I am having trouble logging in to Hotmail and this problem is manifested in both IE and firefox which I have recently just installed. It was working fine up until 3 days ago.

When I enter username/password at www.hotmail.com I get the message 'The page cannot bb displayed' - though it is a valid account which I have been using for years.

I have run spybot and HijackThis and fixed any problems through them and also deleted cookies, temp internet files and history.

I also installed Firefox to see if this was a browser related issue but the same problem occurs.

Does anyone have courses of actions that I should try to remedy this problem?
Thanks

Jackityan,
did you ever get an answer to this or figure it out? I have the same problem. I tried ipconfig /all and I don't get any IP addr data. I checked the device manager and everything looks OK. I've rebooted a few times, run AdAware but still no IP info when I use ipconfig command. I have no idea where this executable is, so I don't know the path.

If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated, thx

your internet service provider should be able to help you .

Hello and good health to you

A cry for help from a old fossil new to dvd burning. I have just purchased a dvd-rw for my dell 4800. I have also purchased some phillips 4.7GB dvd-rw discs. I am trying to burn a film on to one using nero but nero keeps telling me it is to big even though I have shrunk it twice so far. Just how many MB does one of these discs hold or how far do I have to shrink the file?

Can anyone help?

sounds like nero thinks its a cd-rw,are you using nero ulta ,and the dvd section .not the cd-rw section .what are you using to shrink the program .also you say burn a film onto the disk ,just what do you mean by this,do you mean make a backup copy of a dvd you own ,or a movie youve downloaded from the net .

Having problems getting my CD Drive to refresh. When I change CD's it won't recognize the new CD. Keeps bringing up the CD, that I just took out. Any ideas?

Hi,try going into device manager and removing the cddrive and rebooting ,to replace the drivers .
Right click on mycomputer ,/properties /hardware /device manager /+ the cdrom drives, right click to remove ,then reboot .might help ,this happened to me before and i think this is how i fixed it .anyway it won't hurt to try this .

the fix is in post #2

In NS 7.1, click "Edit" then "preferences". Go to "Advanced", then "Cache". Check if there is a checkmark under "Compare page in the cache with page on the network" in the field "Every time i view the page".

Mine was set to "never"!

I tried it now a few dozen times, it works fine again.

Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.
You might want to print out or copy & paste to notePad , these instructions as you will need to close this browser window to fix with hijackthis !

this optional ,but suggested fix as its a rescorce hog and not needed in startup

O15 - Trusted IP range: 206.161.125.149

I went to tools and then options and then security and every other spot there in options and I did not see a single thin that even looked like a box for attachments to be accepted even if harmful. If their is another name for attachments i dont know It. I tried to go over everything that mentions IE and downloads that would let things go through.

Sorry ,im using outlook express, anyway i have outlook and there is noting in securitys like express ,but in tools ,did you check rules and see if you have something set in there to stop certain file types .

I received another E-mail that had the hjt file attached. Again the message said, " outlook has blocked the attachment because it is a potentially harmful file. Is this a virus that si aware of me trying to eliminate it an preventing any application that may do so? Still looking for a solution. I could reload all of my original disk that were loaded at first. The only problem with that is I really dont know how to back up files, delete, reload and all the must not or must do's in the process. I wish we could come up with an easier way. I really appreciate the help. Thanks

open outlook /tools /options /security and uncheck do not allow attachments to be saved that could be harmful or a virus , then someone resend the files .

I want to format my machine and load Windows 98. Windows 98 is dumped in my computer in D:/. I also have a network with other machines. Can any one guide me how to do this.

I have
OS : Windows 98
Lan Card
Sound Card
Floppy Drive

I don't have
CD rom drive

contact your network administrator ,for help ,unless that YOU!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

No luck so far, but here's an update:

Using a Windows 98 startup floppy, I was able to start the computer with CD-ROM access. I tried to install with my Windows 98 CD, but beforehand it wanted to do a system check. During the Scan Disk, it fixed the File Allocation Tables and some other problems, but when it was looking at the Directory Structures, I get a million file errors. While I can click "Fix It" and it
fixes the problem for that specific file, there are many many files in many many directories.

What do you think I should do next? I have the files FDISK.exe and FORMAT.exe on the Windows 98 floppy. Should I use those to try and fix my computer?

First i would make Sure i have all drivers disk for hardware in my computer ,then ,I would use fdisk to delete the dos partition ,then created a new one ,then restart computer and run format then reboot with
cdrom support and reload windows .

just to make sure we have clean restore points lets do this:

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore. >>>(will delete old possibly infected restore point)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.>>>(creates new restore points on a clean system)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK, then reboot
